"Why we love it: A pedigreed stay that perfectly marries fin de siècle charm with modern luxury The Highlights: - A French Renaissance–style building designed by America’s first female professional architect - Fireplaces and deep-soaking tubs in some rooms - An in-house craft brewery that serves pints in a “bar-cade” with pinball machines The Review: When The Lafayette opened in 1904, it was immediately hailed as one of the country’s finest hotels. America’s first female professional architect, Louise Blanchard Bethune designed the seven-story, redbrick-and-white-terra-cotta property to blend “the best that science, art, and experience can offer for the traveling public,” which at the time meant telephones and hot water in every room. Renovations in the late 1940s introduced several Art Deco elements that still remain, while a 2012 restoration helped bring the hotel into the modern era. Today, The Lafayette is part of the Wyndham Hotel Group’s Trademark Hotel Collection and features 13,500 square feet of meeting space. It’s also home to a 15-barrel craft brewery, where guests can enjoy beers and pub fare while playing arcade games; a small-batch coffee roastery with freshly baked pastries; and an outpost of Groom Service Beauty & Dry Bar for blow-outs, professional makeup, manicures, and more. The 57 rooms and suites feature wall murals of vintage photos, designed to complement a palette of plum, brown, and dusty gold. Some have fireplaces, deep-soaking tubs, and full kitchens, too. If you’re looking to indulge, book the Lafayette Suite, which includes a Juliet balcony, double-sided hearth, and dining table suitable for large gatherings."

We went to the hotel for a banquet. I have NEVER had such a bad experience in my life. For starters, the heat wasn't working in the greenhouse room and it was FREEZING. We all had to wear our coats. They had one tiny space heater on each side of the room as their solution. When talking to the manager about it she was very condescending and rude. Did not seem to care one bit that guests were uncomfortable. She said "the thermostat isn't working. We called and no one came." Then you go out of your way to get MULTIPLE space heaters or you figure something else out. It's 23 degrees outside. It was 56 degrees in that room. To add insult to injury, we never got fed. We were told there would be "appetizers served throughout the night"-first off there wasn't even a crudite table with cheese etc. as one would ecpect when it's just an appetizer event. Ok fine. But literally we didn't not see one person with a serving tray. I asked a waitress at 9:30 when we would be fed because our banquet started at 7 and we never got any food and she said "we've been serving appetizers all night" - well apparently they were only serving them to people on one side of the banquet room. If you were on the far side you were out of luck. So not only were we freezing, but we were also starving. Not to mention they had TWO bartenders for about 300 people. It took almost 40 minutes to get a drink. Additionally - there were out of order signs on the ice machines, hallways were dirty and freezing and the staff was downright rude. Absolutely do not advise anyone to host an event here. It was the worst event I've ever been to and for $120 I'm disgusted at the awful service we received.

I am pretty disappointed in this hotel overall. My employer hosted a holiday party at this location and my wife and I figured we would make a night out of it and book a room to stay. When we first entered the overall impression is not inviting. The front desk person was not very friendly (they were not necessarily rude either) compared to other places we’ve stayed. We payed and were handed our room keys and that was it. No direction to the room and not even a ‘Welcome’ when we first entered. When we got up the room, it was large which was nice, but the lighting was similar to a hospital. The room overall looked run down, the furniture was torn, the floor was separating, the walls had patches with mismatched paint in multiple locations, the molding was beat up with paint missing, and the shower and tub area had mold, to name a few of the items. We also arrived early prior to the party and were hoping to get a drink or snack while waiting in the room, but there are no concessions at all (not even in the lobby), the only thing we had were two bottles of water that were in the room. The fridge was similar to a small dorm fridge just placed in the corner, and the ice machine was broken. We paid an extra $40 ahead of time to have breakfast in the morning but decided to not even go because the stay overall was just disappointing.

Unfortunately unsatisfied. My husband and I were looking for a more affordable option when staying overnight after attending an event at KeyBank Center. The room was almost $450 CAD for one night with parking. The fireplace in the room and ice machine didn’t work, hot water was also an issue. Overall, the hotel felt very dated. Staff were not very helpful, when we reported amenities not working, like the fireplace or hot water, we were just told they were “working on it”. Parking is off site, so you’ll need to bring your bags a block down from the parking garage or throw your four ways on in front of the hotel on the street. Honestly, if you’re looking for somewhere to literally sleep, this hotel is fine, but I think for us we’d pay the extra $50-$100 to stay somewhere closer to the arena. It’s a little over a ten minute walk, so maybe in the warmer months it would be a better walk. We stayed early January.

I just checked in, and I'm so WILDLY disappointed. The woman at the front desk was inattentive, rude, and could not be bothered to answer questions or help me in any way. It felt like my presence was intruding on whatever she was trying to listen to on her earbud. Upon finding my room, it is dark, dank, and anchored by an absolutely DISGUSTING bench at the foot of the bed, which is sticky with stains and a thick grime built up from years of use without cleaning. I picked this hotel because I was looking for a more upscale experience--I could not be more underwhelmed.

Historical hotel which has great some great features. Our roon was spacious but the bathroom needs a detailed cleaning and maintenance to include missing tile on shower floor.

We arrived at the hotel only to wait 20 minutes to be checked in since nobody was at the desk and nobody answered the front desk phone when called. Once we arrived in our room it was very clear it was not cleaned. We found hair and dirt in our bed, hair in the sink and shower as well as mold. And our toilet was broken it would not flush. I tried to call down to desk twice and texted the number provided no answer. Went downstairs and waited ten minutes and gave up when nobody was at the desk once again or answering the phone. I want a refund we booked this room for a nice place to stay for my husband and I for his military ceremony that was at pearl street. Location wise it was nice and close but the hotel is nothing like the pictures I am so unsatisfied with how dirty this room was and how is it possible for a hotel to have nobody answering phones or at the front desk MULTIPLE times for over 20 minutes.

Please go anywhere else but this hotel. We wasted a bunch of travel points because this hotel used to be a premium place to stay in Buffalo. Not anymore. Room service never came, no towels, unfriendly front desk staff, dirty lobby, inaccurate pictures. Would not stay again. Last morning woke up to a homeless lady sleeping in the hallway asking for our bathroom, and the staff in the lobby with a golf club looking for a rat.

Please DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY HERE. The room smelled musty, smoky, and drenched in air freshener. Keep in mind, we paid extra for a non-smoking room. The smell made my sister and I nauseous breathing it in. We asked the front desk for assistance to see if we could change rooms or have one where we could at least open the windows to air out the room. The answer was no, they didn’t have rooms available and all they gave us was some fabric spray to try to mask the scent. We couldn’t stand the smell so we checked out of the hotel and had to cut our losses. The hotel also looks rundown and has a weird smell throughout the hallways. It’s very pungent and was hurting our stomachs. We booked this place under Chase's hotel deals/rewards. We will be reaching out to Chase’s travel portal to please take this hotel off of their list as it is an injustice to recommend this place to its customers. I wish the hotel would have the decency to refund us. We were only there for less than an hour and it was unbearable. Please learn from our mistake and misplaced trust on previous reviews for this hotel.
