A warm welcome greeted as a we arrived at the hotel, this hotel is grand with an antique elegance. We had booked 2 rooms, one superior and one standard, the standard was a better room, ok, the view wasn’t the best but you can see the beautiful view from the terrace of the hotel. The actual layout and size of the standard room was better, bigger wardrobe as well. Also the superior room we had was on the 7th floor right next to the service room so if you plan to have a lie-in in the mornings you can forget it because the staff are so noisy!|Breakfast was the usual buffet, I liked this breakfast because they had seeds, dried fruits and yoghurts, my kids liked it because they had their eggs, bacon, toast etc. I found the cake/croissant section very dry. I treated myself to a slice of apple cake on my first morning but it was dry and the croissants were hard! There was a bar in this hotel and restaurant but I didn’t use either therefore I cannot comment on them. |The staff were friendly and the hotel itself was warm, it’s a dated hotel but it’s clean and near to the center of the town. Great for a weekend visit.

Room Cleaners Stole My Wife's Earrings and My Pajamas! (16.02.2025) Our experience at this hotel was very disappointing. First, the rooms are not soundproof at all—our room (421) was extremely loud, making it impossible to sleep. The next morning, we requested a room change, and they moved us to a higher floor but charged us extra for the so-called "upgrade." They assured us that our luggage would be moved to the new room once it was ready, so we left the hotel for the day. However, when we returned at night, we discovered that my wife's earrings, which were left in the safe, were missing. The receptionist tried to help, but they were never found. To make matters worse, I later realized that my pajamas were also missing. I went back to the receptionist and told him, "Okay, I understand that earrings might be hard to find, but how do you lose a pair of pajamas that were hanging in the bathroom?" He sincerely apologized, but all he could do was promise to report the incident. This experience left us feeling unsafe and dissatisfied. I do not recommend this hotel due to poor security, lack of soundproofing, and questionable housekeeping practices.

All hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel room was nice and clean. The hotel is conveniently located down the road from the heart of old Siena, with many shops, restaurants, and attractions. The hotel restaurant was nice with great service and offering delicious food. The breakfast buffet was amazing and our daily highlight. We spent my husbands birthday evening at the hotel restaurant and they made it special! We also arranged for a classic music evening through the hotel, which was another highlight of our stay. We stayed an entire week at Athena hotel and definitely would stay there again!

One of the best hotel experiences of my life. Excellent location, spotless rooms, great view, friendly, helpful staff for whom no request is unsolvable. The breakfast is delicious, and there is a great variety to choose from. I can only recommend this place and I hope to have a chance to return.

Stayed here for the weekend. The hotel is quite busy although it’s low season. The room is standard, but with good design and layout. Clean and well maintained. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is very good. Lots of variety and good quality food. The location is convenient. You can reach the city centre within five minutes by walk. It’s a perfect stay considering the good price. Will stay here again when I come back to Siena.

Google
Lovely hotel with exceptional service. The location is on the outskirts of the town center, but nothing is more than a 10 min walk anyway, so take that in context. The only issues were that the wifi was really really slow and the air conditioner never got cool enough. Otherwise, the room was very clean and quite large, including the bathroom. The view from our room was also very nice.

Google
All my clarification considered by the price of the stay. The room was a bit small, the breakfast was basic and very crowded. I really missed a good bakery.. The center is in walking distance. Tje staff are very kind and supportive. But everything is closed from 3pm to 7pm either in the hotel and in the city. Parking is good. The view from the room or from the roof bar is stunning.

Google
Large modern hotel servicing tour groups, not usually my thing but we had a nice stay here. |It's a 10 minute walk to the Duomo and Il Campo, but on the edge of the old town with views across the countryside. |Breakfast was good, but the room was surprisingly small for such a big hotel, as was the bar.|Our executive room was large and comfortable, on the quiet side of the hotel and with a big window that opened and had a countryside view.

Yelp
This place was *Amazing*- I've never been to a hotel like it before. Amazing customer service from every single aspect- the front desk is amazing- the bar- the bellhop- everyone is so nice! The rooms were great- solid view, great commodities- the only reason it gets a four star is because the beds are a bit stiff. Doesn't matter after a fourteen hour flight tho (slept like a baby ). It serves both breakfast and dinner- (breakfast 3/4 floor and dinner 7 floor) the 7th floor where you have dinner doubles as a roof top bar and is just a gorgeous view of Siena. Not to mention every place you could want to see here is in walking distance!!! If I could give this a 9.9/10 I would- nothing can be perfect but this place is pretty damn close.

Yelp
Location is great. Breakfast is great. Air in room is not good. Wifi is terrible. Staff could also be friendlier.

Yelp
Perfect location and beautiful countryside scenery! 5 minute walk from Piazza del Campo. The view from the 7th floor terrace as well as some of the rooms is breathtaking! Gorgeous Tuscany countryside! Fast and friendly service at the bar. We enjoyed many Aperol spritzes for happy hour each day during our stay here. Francesco at the front desk is absolutely fantastic and I'm still thankful he was able to get us a dinner reservation at the best restaurant in Siena, Osteria da Divo!!!

Yelp
Beautifully situated near the heart of Siena, my room had a lovely view of the Pastoral scenery. Check-in was fast and easy, and the staff was very accommodating of all my requests during my stay. My room was comfortable and updated, and I especially appreciated the in room coffee and mini fridge. Wifi I was a little bit spotty, but okay. Small private parking area in the back if you have a car with you. Walking distance to downtown was a nice Plus. Breakfast was very good. I appreciated the very wide selection of pastries, fresh eggs, fruit and cheeses. The upstairs Terrace bar was lovely and had beautiful views. It wasn't super warm when we were there, so they weren't serving dinner up on the Terrace, but I heard that during nice whether they would do that. Did have dinner in the downstairs restaurant one evening, and it was very tasty, though maybe a bit lacking on Ambiance. Overall, a really lovely Hotel, ideal location, I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hotel! It was an easy walk into town and the service was impeccable. It was raining while I was there, but I still got to take some gorgeous photos from their terrace. The room was clean and had all the accessories needed. Make sure to bring your converter, as there were not any USB ports available.

Yelp
Just arrived at the Hotel we were guaranteed a "Deluxe" room on our reservation. On the web page it says "Our Deluxe Rooms offer a wonderful view over the countryside and the historic center of Siena". Our room 801 has the view of a side of the building next door. Was told it was because it is busy weekend and that this is Deluxe room. I just think they should change the wording in their website to say "Our Deluxe rooms may or may not offer a wonderful view over the countryside and the historic town center" ... Staff has been very good and helpful ... would recommend hotel to others

Yelp
We've really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has managed to keep some of the cool, old school aspects of the hotel (ie the keys are real keys and stored in a forties era cubby system behind the front desk) while mixing a modernity to the establishment. We were warmly greeted and allowed to check into our room very early. We were given directions and told about some highlights as we were checking into our room. And, we received two glasses of free bubbly (thanks to Yelp for this. Was a "check in" promotion). Our room is very clean and comfortable. VERY comfy beds. Extra cosy pillows and mattress! The location and service are great. I'd stay back here in a second. I minus one star because there was some sort of noise above our room for about an hour at around six o'clock in the evening. I had to call down twice to complain. Otherwise, it was very quiet.

Yelp
Hotel Athena is a very central located hotel in Siena with very charmfull staff. Unlike as the normal Italian people these people were very helpfull and real. The interior is classis. The rooms are simple but neat and well I can't say it enough the people are such lovely persons. The rooftof terrace is very delightfull and the cocktails are cheap and taste fine. U can have dinner here or just enjoy the beautifull view with a drink.

Yelp
I really wanted this hotel to be the four star rating it claims to be, not the case. We had two rooms booked through a travel agent and I knew they were not going to be spectacular but I DO expect not to be underneath construction! We were on the forth floor, which by the way is below street level, and doing restoration on the 5th! Who puts guests underneath hammering, sawing and nailing! I asked at the front desk for another room and the man was so rude! I finally got the manager and she moved upstairs. They even have a message in the elevator about the construction so why the attitude?

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel when I visited Siena. It's not necessarily in the "center" but it's a 15 minute walk to the Duomo and the center. The hotel was nice, staff were friendly. The room was a bit small but clean. The room service is weird, you had to go downstairs to the bar and tell them to bring it up to your room. Or maybe my friend and I were just dumb and couldn't figure out how to call room service (but I swear... it wasn't written down anywhere) Didn't have many options so just got a bottle of prosecco and a pizza. Wi-fi isn't free, you have to pay for it.

Yelp
It was my first time in Siena, and Expedia highly recommended the Hotel Athena. It was a very hot day (in July), and the wonderful air conditioning in reception and rooms was so appreciated! After a rest, we were invited to the 7th (rooftop) area for drinks beginning at 5 pm; and then reservations for dinner starting at 7 pm. When we arrived, there was the most pleasant slight breeze; and the views of the hillsides and valleys and neighboring areas in the distance were so amazing. The service was impeccable; and the drinks (wine and cocktails) expertly crafted and presented. The food, however, was the best pasta and meal and wine pairing that I have had during the past decade! They shaved black truffles on top; and it was so good that I ordered a second one to go, because I never know when I can enjoy this whole meal again. My sincere thanks to Francesco at the front desk (impeccable service); and the Romanian gentleman who guided our meal with his fellow friends and staff. I joked that I would helicopter from Florence each evening to continue eating dinner and enjoying this amazing gem of a Siena hotel. You must stay here and eat here! Thank you!

Yelp
The hotel is very nice - Breakfast really quality food the croissants amazing but the wifi is terrible always Turing off

Yelp
I am going to give this hotel a five star rating simply because their staff is amazing. The only negative about the hotel is that the water temperature changes drastically throughout the day. You can read by the other reviews here that the hotel is pretty awesome and you can also see it's located about 10 minutes from the main center. It is incredibly convenient and truly has a US feel to it. In every case the front desk personnel have been exceptional. If I could hire all of them and bring them to the United States to work for my company I would. The Wi-Fi here is a little odd and takes you out quite a bit, but that's just a signal level issue. In general it works okay. I am writing this review from the lobby and everything seems to work great. Without a doubt the next time I am here I will be staying at the hotel Athena.

Yelp
In early September, while traveling in Tuscany, we booked two nights at the Hotel Athena. What a wonderful hotel. It's located a short walk from the Piazza del Campo. We had no problem parking our rented Citroën C3 in their parking lot. The staff was welcoming and warm. We speak very little Italian but had no problem in any communication as every staff member we interacted with spoke English very well. The beautiful rooftop bar is staffed during the evenings yet if we walked up to the bar during the day, we simply used the phone on the bar to call down to the front desk and within a minute or two a bartender was there. Very good service. We ate breakfast each day and had dinner on the rooftop one evening. Excellent food, well prepared and tasty. We met a group from Belgium that was also staying at the Athena. Evidently, their tour group always stays at the Athena. It's a Great hotel. We were sorry we only booked two nights as we could have spent 4 or more days in Siena at the Hotel Athena. Put this hotel on your short list of places to stay if traveling to Tuscany. You'll be happy you did.

Yelp
Staff were too officious, obviously sick of tourists, spoke like robots. Easy to get that way in a place like Siena I guess. My single room was noisy. Parking was awkward and required a good deal of skill to get in and out of the lot. Not as cheap as portrayed by other reviewers either. Location is excellent. Did not try the dining room but the breakfast was adequate.

Yelp
we stayed here for two nights during our stay in Siena. The location was excellent and the staff was very hospitable. We really enjoyed our stay there and would certainly return.

Frank V.

Yelp
Nice less expensive hotel within walking distance of the main attractions. Clean rooms comfortable bed etc. only complaint is we are at street level and hear a lot of street noise. Beautiful view from their 7th floor outdoor restaurant.

Yelp
My wife and I arrived in Siena on a late afternoon train so by the time we got checked into the hotel it was 20:30 on a Sunday and rather than walk around looking for something open we thought we would give the hotel restaurant a try. We were very impressed! The wait staff were excellent, attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and the decor, although obviously newer than the historical setting of Siena, was inviting. We shared the zucchini rolls, strips of zucchini wrapped around melted cheese and seasoned with a wonderful red sauce which I cannot place the name of. We also had two glasses of wine, a rosso for my wife and a chianti for me. The last page of the menu has wines by the glass and there were enough selections to cover most tastes. If you're looking for a bottle the wine list appeared fairly competent although I only glanced at it briefly. Following the zucchini rolls was risotto with asparagus which was simple and delightful. Although the waiter said a single order might not be enough for two we found it to be perfectly portioned. For our main courses we had; baked young rooster with potatoes and vegetables, and the braised lamb with roasted onions. Both were excellent! We finished off our meal with dessert and coffee. A decaf cafe americano and a cappuccino, warm chocolate cake and ice cream, and an apple strudel. We ended up being the last table left at 22:15 but you wouldn't know it from the way the wait staff continued to look after us. I highly recommend the Hotel Athena restaurant. eta: the hotel has free wifi now.
