This is a delightful hotel on the lake's edge.
The lake Léman my friends.
Don't even think of calling it lake Geneva.
That name is reserved for lame northern cartographers, and trolls who believe everything they read in cyber space.
Au lac, the hôtel on the edge of the Léman is perhaps one of the nicest gems in Lausanne. Most rooms face the lake, and while there is no central AC, it is typically not needed. Summer can be warm, but it can also include thunder storms and great showers. Awaking to the geese, and birds by the water's edge is simply devine. Just missing the sweet song of morning cowbells, but you'll have to seek accommodations at a high altitude for that song. Conveniently located just East of the M2 Ouchy-Olympic station, a mere few minutes from the train station. Fly into Cointrin, aka Geneva Airport, and once through customs, head to the train station down stairs. Just drift left, you can't miss it. You can purchase your ticket at an automated machine, in your choice of language. Get off in Lausanne, and walk north or south, in Lausanne, a city on a slope, up is North, and down is south. What could be easier. Look for the Metro M2. And take it direction Ouchy-Olympic from either Lausanne-Gare (to the north) or Grancy (to the south). From the latter you are just three stops away. Don't fuss with a ticket. If you are stopped by an agent, show them your railway receipt, and let them know you are going to check-into the Hôtel au Lac. There you will be given a Mobilis, a TL (Transport Lausanne) pass that will give you unlimited access to the public transportation system. The agent should let you go. They know the value of tourists, and this isn't LA. The currency here is trust, and yes, you're bending the rules, but it's okay. You're jet-lagged and tired.
The hôtel is clean and comfortable, and shares a relationship with the restaurant next door where you can have three meals a day if you like. And you are within walking distance of numerous bars, cafés and restaurants, and a short metro ride to the center of town.
As in all hôtels, co tact the staff directly to get the best rate, especially if you have a tendency to change your plans. That is of course unless you like using third parties.
Across the street is the CGN, where you can hop on a ship that will take you to destinations around the lake, including France! Wave to Evian, yeah, the folks that bring you water. They're directly across from you, when you stay at Hôtel au Lac.
