I stayed here for 3 nights after walking out of my hostel I had originally booked. Hotel Aurora had a lovely room, fan, fridge, coffee maker, hammock, table, and chairs outside my door. Very clean shared kitchen. From the balcony, I saw howler monkeys and even an armadillo, as the property overlooks a park. Good for the budget conscious in low season.

There were a number of pluses to our three-night stay at Hotel Aurora. The staff was friendly and responsive, our room was spacious, and, unlike the experiences of another visitor, our AC unit worked without problems. The fridge was good-sized and there were plenty of outlets for all our electronic devices. But there were other aspects of our stay that were problematic and may have been peculiar to our room. Our room was #33, the most remote one in the hotel. It was situated up three flights of stairs (the last one measuring no more than two feet wide) and down one short flight. Unfortunately, one of the room’s walls abutted the main road into Montezuma and that wall was apparently very thin and lacking in sound insulation so we could hear the unmuffled sounds of cars, trucks, and motor bikes going up and down. Future visitors, to this room at least, should bring earplugs, or buy some at the local supermarket as my wife did. For us, the conveniency of a hotel located close to the town center was significantly offset by the volume of road noise. It’s possible this is less a problem for rooms in other parts of the hotel. Importantly, we could never get reliable Wi-Fi service in our room, despite that feature being advertised and despite the best efforts of a staff member to connect us. Our immediate neighbor had the same issue we discovered when we met in the shared outdoor seating area where reception was better. Other Aurora visitors have mentioned the cleanliness of their rooms, but this wasn’t something that stood out for us, perhaps because the white tiles in the floor of our room had so many dark cracks. In addition, the dark tile grout was dislodging in places, including the bathroom, which sometimes made walking inconvenient. There were two other significant problems with the bathroom. First, while it did have a window that could be vented, that window was not screened, unlike the other venting windows in the unit. This meant choosing between a bathroom of odor and steam or one of insects. Second, emptying a bathroom trash can should have been a daily, routine service since, as is true in many rural communities in the world, a sign told us not to use the toilet for toilet paper. We had to ask for after two days to get such trash service. These shortcomings would have loomed less in our minds if our lodging had been a great value. At $139 per night it did not seem so.

I Booked a room from December 26 to January 1st 2024. The place was in really good shape: it was clean, rooms were spacious and had Internet access. As well, the it had other amenities like a working kitchen, hammocks and tables outside the rooms, and books that you could borrow. The staff was very friendly and provided me with the information I required about different places I could visit, since the hotel has a great location: it has many beaches on a walking distance and you can also visit the waterfall, among others. In general I felt very secure in the Hotel Aurora and in Montezuma. If I would travel back to Montezuma,I would book a room on this place.

Really genuine, small local hotel. Rooms on first floor share a veranda which is like being in a tree house. Best to take the air conditioning! Having access to a small kitchen and full size refrigerator in each room is wonderful.....also a coffee machine with coffee provided. The staff are really friendly and helpful, even shared lunch with me. Room cleaning is excellent too.

Hotel Aurora was our second visit to Montezuma and it was a great experience. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nice, clean have all the amenities you need and great value for what you pay. It has the perfect location right next to downtown and just a 2 minute walk to the beach.

Fantastic location, right in the heart of Montezuma. The bus stop is one block away from the entrance. Rooms are very well maintained. My room had a comfy mattress and a fan + AC unit (which are very important during summer). The Aurora has a small shared kitchen that can help you save if you are a budget minded tourist. Hotel WiFi was good and I even had a couple of smooth video calls. Consider booking the rooms on the second floor which have a balcony with a small sitting area. The balcony is a great place to sip a coffee if it rains!

This hostel is amazing!! The room was big and clean, fresh towels, hot water in the shower and a fridge in the room. Love it. My friend and me wanted to stay one night and ended up staying 4 nights. The hostel is close to the beach and the small town. Really relaxed vibes. The hostel has also hammocks and Elias is super helpful, friendly and he made our stay perfect. |

Do not book this hotel/hostel thru a third party (i.e., expedia, airbandb, etc.), especially if it’s charged in afvance. I stayed here with my daughter for a booking for 9 DAYS with Expedia and only stayed for two days. Asked nicely for some refund and nope, not even for a day.||In addition we were put in the wrong “suite” room. I did contact Expedia before and after we checked out to no avail. ||Main issue, thus the title of this review, is that Expedia charged me $79.95 per night for a $65 dollar room (the 4 bed suite, 3 queen, 1 twin) so I overpaid by a lot. And according to Expedia I was given a member discount of $179.91. This is obviously a fake savings since that would make the room actually cost $99.94 per night! Currently on beginning stages of taking Expedia to small claims court for this.||I will admit that I should not have booked a non-refundable room, but I expected some sort of consideration, especially from one of the lowest-rated hotels/hostels in the area.||Pros: a/c, minifridge in room, communal kitchen, private bathroom and balcony in suite, and at the center of Montezuma. Staff was nice||Cons: no hot water, ants in the room and outside in balcony, construction material in the walkways, hard beds with tiny blankets, no TV, poor wi-fi||All in all, we were not happy and left early. Montezuma is a cute little town, just stay somewhere else unless you’re really roughing it or for a night.||
