Really love this boutique hotel! It’s larger than you think, it’s on sprawling grounds and there are several small buildings with guest rooms which comprise the overall property — the architectural design is so beautiful, the terracotta roofs and stone and colors are just so picturesque and exotic. It’s very lush with vegetation and the ambient noise of the birds and bugs is melodic. Beware when you arrive there’s a long driveway up to the property from the main and busy road. The staff are lovely though the front desk rep spoke little English, but tried her best. As an affordable place to stay the room is obviously a bit unstuffy and not the most modern or sophisticated setup. But it’s charming and has all basic functions working properly, and it is cozy. Breakfast is served at a somewhat small window of time, 7-9am. The neighbourhood of San Pedro is charming and safe. I’d stay here again on a future visit to San Jose!

Love it here even though the reception didn’t want to help me nor another guest with bags when we were both struggling. Excellent breakfast, atmosphere, connectivity to the city in a safer area that benefits from having la UCR right next door. Rooms are very comfortable and well furnished, TV works great. Cozy. Colorful.

Look at the place in person prior to booking. We booked online because the photos of the place looked very unique and nice. However when we got there the room was not cleaned well. The pillows were old and stained, the sheets were unwashed, there was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom. Overall the place looked abandoned. There was a window in the shower? Not sure why, it was not a window looking to the outside it was looking to a boiler room of some sort, that was a little scary. The front desk guy was very polite and tried to help us with getting another room but the second room was a little better but not by much. It was still moldy and the sheets were not washed. Pillows were gross. The only other option the receptionist gave us was to upgrade to another room but we had to pay more. At that point after seeing two different very dirty rooms we opted to just leave. I did not feel comfortable sleeping there. The owner of the hotel does not give refunds and from what we heard sometimes they refund you the money sometimes they don’t. We decided to take our chances as we were not happy with the rooms. We thankfully booked with booking which helped us receive a full refund. We aren’t super picky when it comes to hotels, the place looked cute on the photos, but in person it was very disappointing. It needs more love. I don’t think changing the pillows or washing the sheets is that crazy of a cost. They really need to do better! Staff was friendly and helpful but it sounds like the owner is cheap and not keeping up with the maintenance of the place.

Lovely grounds with unique tile work, art, and landscape. Nice artwork inside, including artisan crafted items. Beautiful balconies and lobby with hand carved local wood chairs. Restaurant on site with excellent menu. |Some downsides include the noisy location: near the freeway/several ramps. Our first room was VERY stuffy and claustrophobic. Could not see out the window due to stationary louvers. No fan or ventilation. One light fixture in the bathroom blew out shortly, leaving the bathroom totally dark. We informed the front desk and the kind young man walked us back to show us how the ceiling fan worked. He seemed surprised there was no fan. Finally.... we were moved to a second room, which had plumbing problems (toilet and shower) and a random floor leak. Hmmm??? Others in our party had similar issues.|The rooms could use inspection for maintenance/deferred repair items.

Cozy private rooms. Recommend top floor if you’re in the main building. Has a wide variety of unique and antique items (chairs carved from single piece of wood, old typewriters and sewing machines, etc). Has a security gate and wifi. Also a nice breakfast was included! Walkable distance but across an overpass and you will find several restaurants ranging from local cuisine to asian. It’s a bit of a trek from the airport but definitely more quiet. I would stay here again if in San Jose.

Interesting stay at this quiet and friendly hotel in the heart of a busy city. Feels like you are in the countryside. Very quiet and peaceful. Hotel is embeded in the UCR campus. Not super easy to access but once you figure it out it adds to the charm... The hotel rooms need a little TLC and upgrading but are clean and provide a relaxing stay. Breakfast was included and is very good. Staff are all very friendly and helpful.

A sweet family-owned hotel. Really friendly staff with tasty breakfast. Don’t miss out on the juicy fruit and free coffee all day long. The facilities could use some upgrading, especially rooms and bathrooms. Very conveniently located near UCR, just a walking distance less that 2min
