Baglio La Porta di San Gerardo (San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"On a hillside overlooking the coast a few miles from San Vito Lo Capo is Baglio La Porta di San Gerardo, a 16th-century courtyard farmhouse whose rooms and suites are decorated in a surprisingly sophisticated contemporary style. It’s not quite minimalist — rustic textures of antique wood and furnishings lend a warm counterpoint — but it is attractive, and life in western Sicily is nothing if not tranquil. The hotel is affiliated with an organic farm that provides the bulk of its produce; the hotel’s restaurant, the poetically named Jitan Mediterranean Mood & View, offers modern interpretations of classic Sicilian flavors." - Tablet Hotels

First off, I don’t understand how this is a 3 star hotel. Definitely 4 at the very least. We had such an amazing time here. The staff are all extremely welcoming and kind. The grounds are beautiful, very remote and relaxing. The infinity pool overlooks the entire coast and ocean - we spent all the day jusy lounging by the pool. The food is good, definitely pricey but given the remote location we weren’t that surprised. We came mid September and there were other guests, but it still felt very secluded and private. We stayed in the suite, which was very clean and comfortable with a nice terrace. The room was a bit dark, but it didn’t bother us much as we barely spent any time in the rooms. Many thanks to Conor for such a warm welcome!

We’ve just returned from a fantastic few days at Baglio La Porta – our first visit to Sicily.||The hotel is set in a beautifully restored old building, sympathetically extended with modern facilities. Our room was in one of the newer sections and came with a breathtaking view of the mountains, effective air conditioning, and an excellent rainfall shower.||The standout feature for us was the pool area. It’s honestly the most stunning I’ve ever seen – the setting alone rivals any five-star hotel I’ve visited. The water stayed at a perfect 29 degrees throughout our stay, and the view across the bay was spectacular.||We also want to highlight the staff, who were unfailingly friendly, warm and helpful. On our final morning, they even arranged for us to have breakfast slightly earlier so we could make a smooth departure for the airport – a much-appreciated gesture. Breakfast was excellent too, by the way. There were some additional paid options (fresh omelettes, pancakes or smoothies) but we didn’t think it was necessary as the included options were extensive.||The location is around a 12-minute drive from the main free car park in San Vito Lo Capo. The first journey up the winding mountain road feels a little hair-raising, but it’s absolutely worth it for the peace, views and sense of escape you get at the hotel.||If we had any minor criticisms, they’d be that parking can feel a little tight at times, though we always found a space. It seems some guests arrive from a sister property in the evening and then depart again, which helps free up spaces. We’d also note that while the on-site restaurant is excellent, it’s priced quite a bit higher than restaurants in town (22-27€ per course). We found ourselves holding back slightly on evening orders to avoid running up a large bill. That said, the aperitivi with a view were a real highlight.||All in all, a beautiful and peaceful place to stay, with exceptional staff and surroundings. We’d love to return.

We’ve just spent three nights at this beautiful hidden retreat and couldn’t have asked for a better getaway. Escaping the children for some much-needed adult time, this place was the perfect spot to relax and recharge.||From the moment you arrive, the aesthetics are stunning, stylish and thoughtful throughout the hotel. The food was absolutely incredible: fresh fish daily, an excellent wine list, and very reasonably priced champagne. We spent most of our time around the pool, soaking in the breathtaking views with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.||The staff were warm and friendly, occasionally things got a little lost in translation, and their directness might catch us more reserved Brits off guard, but honestly, that’s part of the charm and the cultural difference. Overall, they were wonderful.||Locally, there are plenty of hidden beaches to explore, some lively, others more peaceful. I’d definitely recommend a trip to Scopello; it’s absolutely stunning and well worth the visit.||I felt genuinely sad to leave this place, which says it all. If you're even slightly considering booking, just do it. You won’t regret it.

My Fiancee and I recently visited this hotel for 2x full days, and it exceeded our already high expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The grounds and the pool were absolutely breathtaking. Photos do not do it justice. Food was great - we had lunch and dinner, and liked the dinner so much we went there again on our final night. The staff helped organize a private boat day for my girlfriend and I, and it was one of the best days of our lives. The captain pulled out all the stops. Location-wise, the resort is ~15 minute drive from San Vito. It’s secluded and a little hard to get to the local town, but that’s what we wanted, and the grounds are so gorgeous, we had no issues with this. It was a great way to celebrate our recent engagement, and would highly recommend to anyone.

I have had the best time here. The hotel is secluded, calm, charming and very pleasant. The views are extraordinary, breakfast great and service was excellent. I had a fig tree in my own private patio. It's well located to access the Zingaro natural park where the best beaches and walks can be enjoyed. Oh and I had a massage the best in a long time. If I was to return to that region I would definitely be back there.

This is a very stylish small hotel with a beautiful infinity pool, in a well-landscaped garden, perched on a cliff in a wild and stunning location overlooking the sea. It is near Sicily’s only National Park, the Zingaro, where you can walk, and go to the beach, but you need a car to get there. You can also drive down to San Vito Lo Capo, but the beach was already busy, and we soon retreated to the peace and quiet up at the hotel. Baglio La Porta is a beautifully-converted old farm house, once used for making olive oil and wine, with rooms carefully created around the central building. Our room (a junior suite), was off the main courtyard. It was spacious and quiet, with a large (very firm) bed, and space to do yoga - only quibble is that the bedside lighting could be improved. The internet is somewhat intermittent, but that’s hardly surprising given the remote location. The bathroom was small but clean, with a large shower. We stayed for five nights, and ate in the hotel restaurant for both lunch and dinner - a first for us in over 40 years of travelling together. The food is very good - there is a choice of four options for each course at dinner - and breakfast has plenty of choices. From the lovely Conor who greeted us on arrival onwards, the staff are, without exception, friendly and helpful, and the whole experience was warm and relaxing. To be repeated!!

The location is breathtaking with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. However, the guest experience falls short. Dinner was basic, lacked cooking skill, and was overpriced. Breakfast was just okay, but service was poor, and simple items like crêpes or omelettes carried hefty extra charges. Housekeeping only happened after I requested it. Staff were polite but seemed undertrained for a hotel of this level, and management’s response to feedback was defensive rather than helpful. If you’re booking just for the scenery, it delivers — but for food, service, and value, this hotel missed the mark for me.

The Good- the view and location are stunning, as are the main buildings, pool, gardens and restaurant area. |The not so Good…|What lets it down is how the place really is. A miserly attitude to aspects of how the Baglio la Porta is run considering they class themselves as a little upmarket. Eg Only 1 pillow, pay for an extra beach towel, we only ate once in their restaurant, disappointing dinner, the amount of fish in seafood pasta was microscopic, tuna with salad, was a few pieces of salad out of a packet. The deserts were a joke, cream every which way. The young waiting staff were good not to blame at all, comes back to management and the chef. |We booked our room 6 months prior and were given the room adjacent to the kitchen. We soon found out that as well as the extractor fan going nonstop, banging of pots was easily heard through the wall to 10pm. The staff stood next to our entrance and smoked. Also in the morning. Internet was excruciatingly slow. |To sum it up no real response from management, we heard similar comments from others while we were there. We left feeling what a great spot it is but disappointed in the experience.
