Not bad, but the included breakfast is horrible and the safe is non functional. Coffee and two pieces of "toast". But it's not fresh toast. It's like they left bread in the sun for a few days to dry out so when you try to spread butter on it it crumbles into many pieces. Why would they serve that crap it's insulting?

Very nice hotel, lovely open space with many plants, trees and a pool. Had a room by the river, hearing the flow of the water. Reception woman is friendly and smiling.

I stayed in this hotel because it was the closest to my friends home. I stayed in the back part of the hotel that over looks a river. The room was huge. It had one bed and a smal table with chairs. The bed was a little hard for me, but most beds in Mexico are very firm. The pool was very nice and refreshing. The grounds were lovely. The restuarant had the best food. Try the swiss enchalades. I had breakfast there all 3 days I stayed. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Oscar the night clerk was a mecca of information about Malcom Lowry and local scene.. He was awesome to talk to and made the stay even more interesting. The location is convient, near many attractions, yet quite. A short ride from the bus station. The price was very affordable. I willl stay here again.

The notable plus of this hotel is its gardens and pool. Most rooms are quiet, but even though they are close to the main square (2 blocks) they are outside the 'hotel zone', so we felt a bit cut off. ||||On our first night we were offered a room overlooking the busy street or one at the back of the property next to the 'barranca'. We accepted the latter, but the area was poorly lit and the room was much too large and with minimal furniture. Luckily on the 2nd night we were able to move to a better room near their pool. ||||The Front Desk staff need to become much more familiar with what they are selling. I asked 3 different people about the property's connection with Malcolm Lowry, none of them knew anything and they weren't even aware that there is a plaque in his honour on the front wall. ||||I also asked about the price of the breakfast. It was 'reasonable' said the young man. Only later did I find out breakfast is included with the room. Why didn't he tell me that? ||||The management should be reading the less than positive feedback on TA and look to improve. My guess is that they don't even bother to visit these pages.

Hard to find a better downtown location with nice staff, and quiet rooms. The open air dining room looks into a beautiful tropical garden and feels really elegant. English speaking service at the front desk, and safe enough to bring my 92 year old mom with me (who was enchanted with colonial Mexico!) We have used this hotel multiple times and are very fond of it!!||No AC in the rooms, but it is rarely needed and the pool is refreshing!

This hotel had a promotion for about half their posted price, so I made a reservation for it at about $57 (US). It is conveniently located for visiting the central area of Cuernavaca. It has parking, a pool, and rooms that are placed far enough back from the streets that only light traffic noise applies. The staff was nice and friendly.||||The problems we had related to the room itself. The mattress was worn to the point that we could feel the coils through the padding. The bedroom had NO electrical outlets except for the ones used by the TV. The lamp was wired directly into the wall, and the desk had no outlet. We had to recharge our phone and computer in the bathroom. Because of a non-working fountain outside, mosquitoes would enter our room if we left the door open to get fresh air. But if we closed the door, the room smelled musty. One nice thing is that there were reading lamps above the beds; the bedroom lighting was dark without those burning.||||The wi-fi was strong, but it is a long process to log-in each time--choosing a company name, typing a long e-mail address, and then entering a password. Strangely, after I made two wi-fi calls on my phone, the system would never let me log in via the phone again; my guess is that they blocked my phone IP address because of the activity related to the phone calls. (I've never had a problem elsewhere logging into wi-fi with my phone again if it worked the first time.)

I had stayed at this hotel about a year ago and found it to be satisfactory. I am not so pleased this year. The price seems to have increased quite a bit and the hotel would not honor the free breakfast which is clearly listed under ‘Amenities’ on the Tripadvisor web page, which I used in the booking of the hotel. I showed the employee at the front desk that ‘free breakfast’ was listed as a feature of the restaurant, she spoke to the owner, and the owner refused to honor this. The fact that I was a repeat customer also had no effect. Even though the cost of breakfast elsewhere was modest, the fact that they reneged on a clear obligation was very irritating, and inclines me to never stay there again. What will they change their mind about next time, maybe ‘free parking’?||||My being denied a free breakfast resulted from the fact that I used Despegar in the booking process. Despegar used the Spanish words ‘solo hospedaje’ in the booking material, and the hotel took their stand against my free breakfast from this. I didn’t pay much attention to 'solo hospedaje' since it seemed ambiguous and/or in conflict with the ‘free breakfast’ listed elsewhere. Since Despegar apparently seems happy to try changing the terms of my bookings against my interests I feel their performance is very poor, and I will make it a point to never book through them again.||||Interestingly, I only used Despegar for the first night. I stayed one additional night (though not out of any love for this hotel), paid the identical amount as the first night, BUT RECEIVED A FREE BREAKFAST. I guess the lesson here is not to use Despegar. As a side note, the Tripadvisor site notes ‘Free High-Speed Internet’. This is only in the reception area. Given that the ‘free breakfast’ note was also on the Tripadvisor page, I guess the other lesson is to take what Tripadvisor says with a ‘grain of salt’.

We were quite disappointed by our stay at Bajo el Volcan last weekend. We had booked and paid in advance for two rooms - a single and a double room. The single room had no window, other than a small unscreened vent-type window in the bathroom. The room was claustrophobic and hot. The double room was bigger with windows, which was good, but we didn’t like the big cockroach that greeted us in the bathroom. Nor did we like the two spiders in the bedroom. Adding to that was the fact that the advertised free wifi didn’t work in our room. We called the reception desk to ask for help and were told that they were busy and they’d get to us later. Well, later was about 30 minutes later. We won’t be returning to this hotel.
