Hotel Baltschug Kempinski (Moscow, Russia) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Quite probably, this is Moscow′s flashiest hotel—at least, it′s where Elton John stays when he′s in town. Behind the Baltschug′s hundred-year-old facade beats a glossy and very up-to-date heart—huge rooms overlooking the Kremlin, internet access, and a blissfully serene swimming pool. People turn chartreuse with envy when you tell them you are staying here. This is the kind of place where the beds are almost too big, the pillows and duvets almost too white and the service almost too prompt. Shampoo and bubble bath come in matte black containers shaped like skyscrapers, sofas are a deep and lascivious red, and the room′s soundproof windows are cleverly positioned so that you only see Moscow at its best—the gold domes of the Kremlin, the lights of the Moskva River, and the colored cupolas of St Basil′s cathedral. The city′s traffic-packed streets, on the other hand, are exactly where they belong—out of sight and out of mind. Sunday brunch buffet is probably the best in town, attracting locals and expats alike with its endless selection of hot and cold dishes, deferential chefs in tall white hats, and phenomenal smoked fish. The wild at heart must check out the British-run casino, with its genuinely stunning frescos. The more seriously inclined may choose to retire to the library bar, stocked with vodkas and books in all languages. The health club here has to be worth a trip down the basement—it has bubbling Jacuzzis beside its azure pool, lean Russian and non-Russian beauties relaxing in bathing suits, and the staff positively rushing to bring you another towel. As you′ve probably guessed, servility and efficiency is de rigeur—what happens when the old Russian aristocratic spirit gets revived by German management. (Kempinski is based in Berlin.) An unflagging concierge will set anything up from dinner at a Russian palace to a ride on a supersonic MiG-29. A request for an aspirin brings room service running to your door with two little pills on an enormous silver tray with a jug of iced water. And best of all, uniformed bell-hops in gold and green wander the lobby with guest names chalked onto signs—just as you might imagine they used to do in the old days." - Tablet Hotels

Rooms are so old but they keep it clean. Also, the view from the river-sided rooms is amazing. However, be careful of the adapter they will charge you if you use it even if you return it to them. The service is abysmal, they need courses on friendliness and hospitality especially the reception. And the smell when you go inside the hotel’s hallway is awful. It always smells like onion.

Currently staying at Balchug Kempinski Moscow — and honestly, my impressions are quite mixed.||To start with the positives: the welcome was warm, the staff are polite and attentive. As a GHA Discovery member, I was offered a complimentary room upgrade — a nice gesture and much appreciated.||||However, several issues have come up that are simply unacceptable for a five-star hotel.||There are no complimentary breakfasts offered even for top-tier GHA Discovery members, which is quite disappointing.||||When I requested an additional bathrobe, I was brought one with yellow stains and a large tear — completely inappropriate. The iron provided in the room is of very low quality and hardly usable for any proper pressing.||||I’d also like to mention the state of the curtains — they are literally full of holes. And in a five-star hotel! Needless to say, the morning light pours right through them, so forget about sleeping in.||||Evening turndown service is another point of frustration. It wasn’t done at all on the first night and only started after I raised the issue at the reception. Since then, it has been extremely superficial — they just make the bed and close the curtains (yes, the ones with holes), then leave. Dirty and wet towels remain on the bathroom floor, toiletries are not refreshed, and the room is not truly prepared for the night. It’s just a bed that’s been made, nothing more.||||These are not the standards one would expect from a hotel under the Kempinski name. There is potential here, but the lack of attention to detail and inconsistency in service delivery are major disappointments. I sincerely hope the management takes these issues seriously — because right now, this is far from a true five-star experience.||||If you’re considering staying at this hotel based on the Kempinski name as a symbol of premium hospitality, I assure you this is a deeply mistaken expectation. There is nothing beyond the name that reflects Kempinski standards here. This property does not deserve more than a three-star rating given the complete absence of consistent, high-level service.

there is a welcome fruit basket. excellent view of St Basil Cathedral and Moskva River especially during sunset. there are some halal selection for breakfast buffet. some of furnitures and fittings looks a bit dated. Room price is quite high maybe because of the room size, location and view from the room.

The location is fabulous, you can see the Kremlin and Vasili Blazenjev church from most of the rooms. By the way, they are a little bit small. Servicse was good, Breakfast not with a great variety but excellent quality and service was fast and very polite and helpful. The prices are high, but what you usuually bay for a hotel is 3 things : location, location, location. It is an excellent choice if you really want to stay at the heart of Moscow, especially during New Years Eve (Novi God) and other special occasions. It is worth the cost.

The hotel is just across the bridge(5 mins walk) from main touristy area of Moscow such as Red square and st. Basil church. ||Check in was smooth as staff at reception speaks English. ||There is even a teller at hotel if you need to exchange some money.||The breakfast selection was also good. The hotel has a temperature controlled pool and a jacuzzi and a good gym as well. ||All in all a great place to stay for a touristy Moscow trip.

One of Moscow’s best value luxury hotels, IMHO – serious bang for your buck. Superb location, tasty breakfast, stunning views, and rooms that fully meet the standard. Service can be hit-or-miss but is decent overall.
