Hotel B&B Stossplatz

We had a lovely stay here. Rooms cleaned everyday, simple but with everything you need. Loved the self check in machine out the front which made things so convenient. Super friendly hosts who were there to greet you with a smile every morning at breakfast. The breakfast spread was varied and included scrambled eggs you can order, delicious fresh bread and fruit and other continental selections, even meats, cheeses and smoked salmon! The location truly cannot be beaten, you walk off the train tracks and it is right in front of you. 1 min walk at the most. It was absolutely perfect as a base for our 3 night hiking trip in Appenzell (You get the Appenzell Holiday Card as well if you stay for 3 nights which includes all local transportation, cable cars, even transfers to and from Zurich). I highly recommend!

Perfect location, 2 min from the train station, convenient if you rely on the trains to hike around. But also, 7min walking distance to the city center. Incredibly quite despite the closeness to the trains. Monica took great care and she is super welcoming. Breakfast is amazing with a wide variety of food and beverages. Comfortable bed, shared bathroom was not renovated and uncomfortable with a bathtub. But no deal breaker.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel, just a few steps away from the beautiful town of Appenzell. The rooms are tidy and well-kept. Breakfast is complete and varied, including local products. I stayed in a double room with private bathroom and can say it was very comfortable and convenient.

Just stayed a week there and it was perfect! I was solo traveling so in a one bedroom with a shared bathroom with potentially 3 other people. Since it’s only 3 people, it was never a problem at all. Only reason I put a 4 for rooms is because the shower itself/ventilation system could be a little bit better. Otherwise really clean. Note that in the single bed rooms, you have you own sink so this helped a lot. The bed is confortable and I had plenty of space for my things. I had the chance to have a direct view of Hoher Kasten, which was lovely every morning/evening. Like other people said, the owner(s) is/are so nice and it really feels like a love project. The breakfast is quite good with local products(including appenzeller cheese!) and there is really something for everyone. Some mornings I felt like eating more meat or less, and you will also get asked if you want an egg, which is really nice. Other than the bedroom, the rest of the building is perfect. You have a lounge area, have access to a locker for your bike, and a sink with cleaning products to clean your boots/bike after a long day out. You also have a laundry machine and extra bathrooms in the basement just in case. The location is perfect, it’s 1minute walk of the train station, but you don’t hear it. You’re also close to the restaurants, and there is a LIDL a bit further down, which I always went to get lunch to eat on the mountain. I’ll stay there whenever I’ll comeback to Appenzell. Lovely. INCREDIBLE STAY! The hosts were extremely welcoming, kind and helpful. Immaculately clean and comfortable accommodation. A beautifully decorated seating area downstairs where they serve the most delicious breakfast!! In close proximity to many beautiful hikes. Many other good benefits of staying here. Cannot reccommend enough.

Hosts are warm and welcoming. The place is very clean and well decorated. We enjoyed breakfast there and you can have coffee, tea or fruits any time. Location is right next to train station and very near the quaint town. Also, a convenient place to set off to Ebenalp for hiking. Will be back. Thank you for serving us.

My sister and I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed its convenient location and quaint feeling. The room was clean and the staff was polite. Breakfast was good, but the room was stifling hot one day! Parking is simple and it is located just beside the train tracks. The train is not loud, as we slept with our window open both nights. You can walk into the town and browse around. The walk was about 7-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk.
