We were delayed getting to Barga which meant we arrived at Casa Cordati at 11pm, well past the arranged arrival time but Gio gave us a very warm welcome and carried our bags to our HUGE room. |The hotel is in a beautiful old building with stunning views, I can’t stress this enough; we were blown away on our first morning when we opened our shutters. There is also an exhibition of paintings, well worth a look. |The area is spectacular and quick to cover, after only one day we felt confident navigating our way through the cobbled alleyways.

What a fantastic place….don’t tell anyone else! Casa Cordati is basically an art gallery with rooms. And the bedrooms are wow! Large rooms with splendid views over Barga and the surrounding countryside. Wait until you see the covered roof terrace! Comfortable beds, warm spacious rooms with complimentary tea, coffee, fridge etc. Great value in the middle of town. Giardano is a very welcoming host. His grandfather painted many of the pictures in the galleries. Good restaurants are in the same street. We’d recommend L’Altana for an evening meal. There’s no breakfast but local shops are available a few minutes walk down the hill in the new town and there is cutlery, cups and plates in the rooms to make your own brekky. Casa Cordati is located in the heart of the old town and is one of the old buildings. It’s very quiet although the town clock can be a distraction in the street facing rooms. There is no car access but it’s only a couple of minutes walk from the main gate at Porta Reale. At the Porte Reale there is a car park but it’s limited to 2 hours free parking. You don’t need a car in Barga so we dumped ours in the free unlimited time car park behind the petrol station in the new town just down the hill. The tourist office is a 5 minute level walk away in the centre of the old town. Lots of walking itineraries are available there – we tried a couple and saw some stunning places.

A wonderful return to Casa Cordati we visited the museum 14 years ago. A unique experience to stay in a palazzo in the Old City of Barga with access to Bruno Cordati art studio. Rustic and comfortable accommodation with wonderful views at a very reasonable price. Close to all Barga has to offer with parking available a few minutes walk away. Best to leave heavy suitcases in the car and bring small bag if only a short stay. GIORDANO IS a helpful and welcoming host. A very pleasant stay. With thanks Ian & Sheila Adelaide Australia

A random find on Booking.com that turned out to be better than I imagined. Casa Cordati is a working/open museum on the first floor which you have free access to at any time you like even when it's closed! Accommodation was on the second floor and included an amazing attic space. Giordano whose Grandfather is the subject of the museum welcomes you in to his home and is a great host. There are loads of places to eat nearby and plenty of sights to see and many little streets to walk around. Without a shadow of a doubt the best most authentic place to stay for miles and miles around.

We loved staying here on our honeymoon. Giordano was such lovely man and really was passionate about the gallery and his town of Barga. The room has amazing high ceilings and a view to die for. If you enjoy doing something a little different and having a whole gallery/museum to yourself go for it. Take it from me the path less travelled always wins out :) enjoy

This grand palazzo run as an Alberto in Barga old town is full of character and contains an art gallery which is now run by the artists grandson Giordano. Everything worked perfectly, heating shower etc and lovely crisp clean sheets with a host who is kind, nothing a bother and very knowledgeable about the local area. Our hire car broke down and was towed away which was a bit of a disaster however Giordano helped us telephoning the hire company and got up very early to run us to the train station and generally went the extra mile. Also very good value for money! Can not recommend highly enough. Thanks Giordano!

A spacious and well located apartment with a very comfortable bed and everything you need. The building was of great historical interest and the art work fascinating. The visit to the roof terrace gave a great view of the town. The owner was friendly and attentive. I recommend a stay here. Great value and location in the centre of Barga.
