First of all, I want to thank your chef. I can say that it was the best steak meal of my life so far. Actually, I don't like steak very much because I had a bad steak experience the first time in Sydney. And I was very scared when eating steak, so when someone invited me to eat steak, I flatly refused until I experienced it again at the hotel barkly. The taste was amazing. It was soft, rich in flavor and especially not bitter like in Sydney. After enjoying the meal there, I had to call the chef to thank them and ask to take a picture with them. I really appreciate the chefs and customer service. Great night, great music, especially great the chef and the staff as well.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sunday roast was beyond amazing- we had beef and pork. The chefs stuffing was awesome. Staff were very friendly. We will be back.

Great bar, chef Matty came out to say hi and gave us a free dessert as thanks for coming in! I had the steak ( rare - cooked perfectly ) my mate had the bangers n mash extremely delicious and generous serve and presented fantasically and my other mate had the fish & chips which came with gravy, tartare sauce and peas which was fab. The sticky date pudding was absolutely sublime. Have not got a bad word to say. Great Night great meal and great music in the pub too!

I just want to give a shoutout to the amazing team at Hotel Barkly for being so accomodating to our group of 5, including a space for the pram! We visited during the Christmas in July weekend, and the place is beautifully decorated. We had the Sunday roast, which the Yorkshire pudding itself deserve all the praises! It was done perfectly! And the dessert was to die for as well - so beautifully presented and was so delicious! The service are also beyond attentive - the staff check in from time to time, and was so friendly to talk to!

We had the Sunday Roast Beef - ridiculously good. The beef was perfectly cooked, potato's crispy, broccolini unbelievable and the perfect amount of gravy - loads of it. The Yorkshire pudding just made me happy. Service was amazing, chef came out and offered additional sauces, bar staff were fast, not intrusive but friendly. Just a great vibe. Will definitely be back. With more friends.

Visited on 15/6 with a group of eight. We all had the Sunday roast and it was fantastic. Generous portions, great value, and really tasty. We also brought along a cake, and the staff were lovely, happily providing a knife and bowls for us. Super impressed. Definitely worth a visit. Everyone left happy!

Well, if I didn't miss the UK before, I really do now. That yorkshire pudding Sunday roast is to absolutely die for. The pudding was light and fluffy, the potatoes were seasoned so well and were like tasty little clouds, heaps of meat 👏👏👏 hats off to Chef Matty, you know your sh*t ❤️

WOW!!!! Everything 10/10, the drinks are so reasonably priced, the atmosphere was great and cosy & the staff…. Just unbelievable! Matty & Gonzo you are superstars, so kind and always welcoming with a smile. It’s not often the chef comes out and the bar manger is so present but these guys were just fabulous! The girls Maisie and Beth behind the bar also brilliant and attentive, helping suggest the specials and making brilliant espresso martinis. We ate twice here over 2 days, the steak - brilliant! Couldn’t have asked for more, cooked to perfection & the roast dinner, my lord!!!! Insane. Thank you for a wonderful experience, the team truly make the Barkly the place to be. Thank you guys! We will be back

Yelp
This place has been up and running for some time now and always pulls a decent crowd. By decent I mean numbers wise... I am not too sure about the quality. Its primary function is to provide accommodation and usually plays house to a ream of seasonal backpackers wanting to stay in the heart of St Kilda and enjoy the nightlife on a shoestring. They also have access to an underground style bar which I am not sure many are aware of that also plays host to a mired of travelers and the likes. Sunday night can be quite popular with nights being help on their roof top bar with a balcony showcasing views of the iconic Palais Theatre, Port Philip Bay and Luna Park.

Yelp
We come here on Friday afternoons for a nice pub lunch. They're always very accommodating for our big group. There are good specials on each week, ie. fish and chips for $11 or lamb curry and a pot for $12. It's good pub grub! You won't be left hungry.

Yelp
The first thing that caught my attention with this place is the window in the guy's toilets that looks out onto the stage, which means that if you are a guy (I don't know if the girl's have the same privilege) you don't get to miss any of the action on stage (meaning the live music). It sort of reminded my of the members area of the MCG. The pub itself wasn't bad, but it is a little way off of Ackland Street, though it does not necessarily mean it is a quieter part of St Kilda (it is at the corner of Grey, Inkerman, and Barkley). There is also a backpacker's hostel on the upper floors which means that you get a lot of backpacker's visiting this pub. It doesn't have an outdoor area though, only a few tables out on the street, however it is more the live bands that give this place some character than anything else. Not a bad place, but not one I would visit too often (since I don't live anywhere near St Kilda), but would be more than happy to come back for a live band.

Yelp
This is going to be a pretty subjectively rated sort of venue (well, I suppose they all are). I can categorically say I won't be back. Was the staff rude? Nope, not at all. Functioned fine. Was the venue clean? Sure, for the most part, it's a pub, what do you expect? Was the location ideal? No, not if you live in the CBD, but that's not their fault. It's a genre thing for me. It's got betting, it's got beer, it's got pub food, it's got a lot of sportsball showing on the TVs. Is that your thing? If so, you're welcome to the Barkly. I'm thinking that if you're on a really tight budget, you like the ever-present risk of a drunken student tourist throwing up upon you, or never really left the Uni lifestyle yourself and find pub-grub haute cuisine, you're going to love this place. But if you're NOT into those things, and like more intimate surroundings and the ability to have a meaningful conversation without having to shout over hooligans ranting about their favourite sportsball team, well, best try somewhere else.
