The Best Hotels in the World: 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Opened in 1926 on the Croisette, this Art Deco landmark has been a star-studded favorite among film-festival-goers for decades, and it’s steeped in cinematic history: Two of its most exclusive suites, for example, are named for the French actress Michèle Morgan, who won best actress at the first Cannes Film Festival, and the 1963 film Mélodie en sous-sol, which featured scenes shot at the hotel. (If you’re not here to rub shoulders with the glitterati during the festival, you can plan your own screening in the hotel’s private projection room by borrowing a DVD from the concierge’s library.) Outside, you’ll find a perma-heated pool, lined with red umbrellas and towering palms, and a private beach, where you can sip Champagne as you watch the Mediterranean waters come alive with water skiers, paddleboarders, sailors, and wakeboarders." - CNT Editors

Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes

"Opened in 1926, the Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes is one of the quintessential Cannes properties. The lobby sets the scene for a grand entrance, with soaring ceilings, gilded sculptures, and cascading art deco light fixtures. Rooms are stately and serene, outfitted in muted tones like cream and taupe, with sweeping views of the bay. The hotel also offers ultra-luxe suites, each with a distinct design theme (like Riviera and Christian Dior), and a penthouse suite with a heated rooftop pool and 360-degree views of the city, from the hills to the sea stretching across the horizon. During my visit, the city was quiet but the bar at Fouquet’s was lively as ever. There, you’ll find a thoughtful drink menu from veteran mixologist Emanuele Balestra. Onsite restaurants include Fouquet’s and Paradiso, a Mediterranean brasserie that opens during the warmer seasons."

We stayed two nights at Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, and it was a wonderful experience overall—we would happily recommend it and stay again.|The hotel has an excellent location, right across the road from the beach and in the heart of Cannes’ main shopping area. Parking is available for an additional fee. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by the staff, who assisted with our luggage and took care of the car, parking it in their garage. Check-in was smooth, but unfortunately, it took over an hour for our bags to be delivered to the room, and we eventually had to call reception to follow up.|Once settled, we headed straight to the outdoor pool, which was lovely. Sun loungers are complimentary for hotel guests, and there’s a bar by the pool. The pool itself is surrounded by a glass fence and overlooked by the hotel restaurant, which created a nice atmosphere. That evening, we went out for dinner—just a five-minute walk from the hotel, with plenty of options to choose from—though the hotel very inviting.|Breakfast the next morning was excellent, with a large buffet selection, an omelette station, and plenty of fresh fruit. Our room was beautifully decorated, featuring a small balcony with two chairs and a table, offering a sea view. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious, though the layout was slightly unusual, with a small cubicle shower separate from the bathtub.|We also made use of the indoor spa, which, while compact, provided a relaxing space with a sauna, steam room, ice fountain, showers, and seating area. The hotel’s private beach was another highlight, with sun loungers available for an additional fee, as well as a restaurant and a dock offering water sports such as jet skiing (also at an extra cost).|Overall, our stay at Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes was relaxing and memorable. Despite a small hiccup with luggage delivery, the location, facilities, and service made it an excellent choice, and we would certainly stay here again.

We stayed a few nights at this truly majestic hotel. The location is perfect; close to the old town and many restaurants and bars. We had a sea view suite and the view was absolutely stunning. We visited the beach club which was fantastic as well! Great service and the food was remarkable. We would like to give a special thank you to Armand and Giuseppe at the front desk for such a warm welcome and constant attention throughout our stay. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel, we will be back!

My stay at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The beach club is simply amazing—stylish, relaxing, and the perfect place to soak up the Riviera sun. And the breakfast buffet? Without a doubt, the best in Cannes. The variety, quality, and attention to detail were unmatched. As a pet owner, I was so impressed by how pet-friendly the hotel is—my furry companion was welcomed with open arms and felt just as pampered as I did. A special mention to the front desk team, who were consistently warm, helpful, and professional. Lorenzo, in particular, went above and beyond—truly the best front desk agent I’ve encountered. His kindness and efficiency made all the difference. And the concierge team was equally outstanding—knowledgeable, attentive, and always ready to assist with a smile.

Have stayed at the hotel quite a few times! While no trip is without a few snags, they really will work with you to get to the best solution. Staff is helpful and kind. Location is amazing. Book a sea view room - really is worth it, especially for sunsets. Breakfast has a large selection. Recommend 10/10.

My family and I loved everything about our stay at the Majestic in Cannes. Our trip started off great when we got an upgraded room with a sea view. When we entered our room, there were gifts for our kids based on their hobbies. The breakfast options were ENDLESS and surpassed our expectations in every way. We enjoyed the private beach and the menu options. Our kids really enjoyed the kids club and the friendly staff. Above all, the hotel's location is perfect as its central to all the best restaurants and shopping. A big thank you to Jihen who assisted us throughout the reservation process!!!

So where do I begin with this? My lovely wife Fiona was celebrating a very special birthday. We had been to the south of France on numerous occasions but Cannes was not a town with which we were familiar having visited only very briefly on one previous occasion. Based on reviews we were able to read here, the Majestic Barriere appeared to be the logical choice for a luxury experience. Our incredible concierge team at American Express Centurion subsequently booked us three nights on their Fine Hotels and Resorts program which we have always used and greatly appreciated on many previous occasions. To enhance the whole experience, we booked a lunch and a dinner at the newly opened and luxurious private Ciro Beach Club which belongs to the hotel and sits right across the road. To emphasise how special this whole occasion was for us, I secretly arranged for Fiona’s adult daughters to join us in Cannes on the day of her birthday as a very special surprise. In advance of previous luxury hotel bookings, we have had experience of the venue contacting us to make us aware of things which might affect our experience – things like swimming pool closure or building works near the property.||No such information was forthcoming in advance of our stay so we felt we had all bases covered. ||The check-in experience, if I were to be polite, would best be described as chaotic so our first experience at the hotel set some alarm bells ringing. However – and wait for this – we discovered and no one even attempted to inform us but immediately across the road from the hotel and sitting within touching distance of the hotel’s beach club was one of the biggest sound and lighting stages that we have ever seen – and we are in the music business! Apparently a techno DJ Festival was being conducted over the entire time of our stay at the hotel with thumping music until 02:30 every single day.||Not a single word from the Hotel whatsoever!||I could write so much more about our experience, but the main one I have listed above is so appalling that I cannot really see past it nor find any possible reason for the Hotel to allow this to happen to us ||On the positive side the actual building itself is spectacular. Unfortunately, I would have to say that there were so many issues with service during our stay being not anywhere near the standard we would expect from a venue of this standard. Due to the music festival I have described above, we had to make total changes to our special dining reservations that we were very much looking forward to. ||In conclusion, though I could say so much more, I will close this review by saying that the Majestic Barriere totally and completely and utterly spoiled what was intended to be a beautiful family occasion to celebrate my wife’s special birthday and I will never ever forgive them for doing this to us!||When I return to Scotland on Monday, I intend speaking to our legal representatives to raise an action against the venue for the distress and disappointment they have caused. I have never done this previously to a five star venue in my life.||Shame on you Majestic Barriere for this. Shame on you!

The Majestic is a beautiful hotel. This was our second time staying. Last time we had a partial sea view room, this time a prestige sea view room. It is well worth the admittedly high price tag. You are very close to the old part of the town and its restaurants but equally on and surrounded by the Croisette and its high end shops and boutiques. The staff are great, the facilities are great and the bars and restaurants are really really good. We will definitely be back - one of my favourite hotels if not my most favourite hotel in the world.

Yelp
I stayed at the Le Majestic on business for a few nights. While the hotel and its location are very nice, the service is terrible and the blatant disregard for hotel guests is really troubling. I visited the pool side for a drink. There were many others around but it took over 25 minutes for me to get acknowledged by the wait staff. I gave up and went elsewhere. Perhaps most troubling was that the hotel had a massive party with music, a light show and so on. It was so loud and bright that I could not sleep until after 2am. I called the front desk to ask why the hotel guests were not notified of the disturbance. They don't do that in France, it seems. When I alerted the hotel manager about these and other issues, he simply said he can't be everywhere all the time and that I should not be surprised that the hotel would host large parties. It is Cannes, after all. Don't go to this hotel! Save your money and stay at one of the many nicer hotels nearby!

Yelp
Beautiful lobby but the service and the rooms were horrible. I came for my honeymoon and there was a leak in my room and all my clothes got soaked :( I had to pack all my stuff that I unpacked for a three day trip and grab my destroyed clothes and move to another room (where the toilet didn't flush) and when I told them that it was an inconvenience to move and my stuff was ruined, Beatrice was rude and said "things like this happen and it's just unfortunate that it was you". Would not recommend staying here. There are plenty of hotels nearby where they treat you like humans.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this hotel and its services. The outside environment may have leaned me toward lesser stars. Here are the things I liked: 1. Great location to Palais de Festivals 2. Staff are all very nice 3. Morning Breakfast is abundant with healthy, tasty choices. 4. Beds are phenomenal 5. Maid service is great 6. Hotel Room was large with a great bathtub and separate shower. The seating area in my living room was very roomy and comfortable. All esthetically pleasing 7. Decent Gym Things that need improvement: 1. Private Beach area closed. I wish I had known before booking 2. Concierge service told me the closest place to buy tennis shoes was 15 minutes away and that they could send someone to purchase them for me. This was odd when I found many options two blocks away from the hotel. 3. Concierge told me I needed to walk four long blocks away to catch the little train when it was located directly across the front of the hotel at the Palais de Festivals. 4. Front Desk should have informed me at check-in, telling me I had 125 euros for food at their restaurants. When they made my reservation, they made it at a non-affiliated restaurant. 5. The $165 massage did not include a neck rub. The massage was a letdown experience for this type of venue. The reason given was that I requested no oil in my hair. I don't understand why the masseuse didn't wash her hands and massage my neck. Cannes is in a significant state of reconstruction right now. Rumor is they have been like this for five years. But I need to see how this is possible with the Cannes Film Festival attendees coming here with the state of affairs as is. The sidewalks on both sides of the street have gapping holes large enough for full-size vehicles to fall in, much less a person. Dust in the air, drilling sounds constantly, wired fences up EVERYWHERE. Very distracting.

Yelp
Close to Palais des Festival , but very noisy during the night , pool too small for 250 rooms , impossible to have a sun bed , lot of children cry close from the swomming pool , breakfast too expensif .Nice spa but little hammam

Yelp
Most pretentious and snobby Hotel and Cannes, France. The stuff is very rude and totally unwelcoming. Had a very bad experience with them. I'll never go back.

Yelp
Excellent, comfy, spacious room, with a bed you can take a nice deep sleep in. The staff is very attentive and give strong recommendations. Directly across the street from the beach and within walking distance from anywhere you want to go.

Great Boutique hotel. Love the service, espresso machine in the room, great decor, and even better views from the room!

Yelp
The lobby, the restaurant and the bar are great, but ridiculously expensive. I m a member of lhw and i m use too real five star luxury and services, from cheap soap, hold wall paint, extremely small tv, no sound system, cleaning lady coming in even with the sign do not disturb i have to say i m disappointed. The cannes casino that belong to the same group is also a huge disappointment, unpleasant and incompetent staff at cash table games.
google avatar

MT W.

Yelp
A member of the LHW and is one of the most luxury and chic hotels of Cannes. Besides it's new, and that's why it beats the competition of the Carlton, Martinez or Miramar. Situated in the center of the city, at famous all over the world promenade de la Croisette, it's a walking distance to everything: Palais de Congres where takes place famous Cannes Festival every single year, Casino, shops, restaurants, marina, all tourist attractions and sights. Numerous grand boutiques are right at the hotel or at the corner. Decorated with the photos of famous movie stars, directors and celebrities, visiting Cannes film festival, and most of them were staying at this hotel of course. If you book a regular standard room - don't expect that it will be big and spacious like in the same kind of hotels in US for example. It will be pretty small, but elegantly cozy and with great bed, very comfortable linens and duvet. If you need ice - call room service, there is no ice machine. The suits and penthouses are much larger and some of them have balconies and gorgeous Mediterranean sea view. Minibar in the room, no coffee or tea maker, it's not Marriott... Breakfast is an enormous buffet and it would cost you about 40 euros per person. But it's really something. They offer all you can think of. And Champaign of course - Pommery. Smoked Salmon, cheese selection, meat cuts, order your omlet or eggs of any kind... If you're a breakfast person- you'll indulge yourself. But if you eat just fruits for breakfast- that's offering much more for the price they charge. You can do room service too. SPA is in the building. Looks trendy, but I haven't tried their services. Fitness center looks good too. Occupies two rooms and features various cardio machines, strength, weights, cycling machines, and equipment for functional training and even for boxing. They offer packages, like 5th night for free, SPA package etc. The outdoor pool is right next to the Fouquet's restaurant and it's not big, but enough to relax and have a drink may be. There is a bar right next to the pool. They have their private beach. The rates are really incredibly high to my mind and there are people who are paying the price for some hotels less than they charge for the sun bed at the beach, but for the Cannes standards I would say that it's quite normal. Full day at the beach (9am-6:30 pm) would be 50 Euros average for person. Half day would be average 30 per person. They have slight difference if you reserve at pontoon, first raw or regular beach area. And the water sports rentals are at the pier, invcluding such activities as parasailing, flying fish, water-skiing, wakeboarding, etc. Also lessons with instructor are possible. There is a restaurant and lounge area. Restaurant is open for lunch from noon. Beach looks beautiful. But I noted that after rains or light storm they don't bother to clean it- the seashore and the water there was incredibly dirty, full of disgusting garbage. For the hotel of this level it was very disappointing, especially if you have to pay for the beach 40-50 Euros per person and overlook all this dirt. Of course I understand that people don't go much into to the water to swim, but just stay there the to show off, but if the water was cleaner may be they would go in more... On the territory there are 3 restaurants and 2 bars. Fouquet's Cannes as the one in Paris is really famous in the city as well as the Rotonde Louise Pommery Bar. There are charming helpful concierges working all the time and they will be happy to reserve you a table at the Michelin star restaurant of your likeness or suggest you something nice to their taste. Valet Parking for your convenience. Great place for your romantic holidays at French Riviera.

Yelp
The Majestic remains THE place to be in Cannes. And now more than ever. Needless to say the Bar in the Majestic is also THE place to meet people and to do deals. I have done some of my biggest deals there, and this year (2015) was no exception. The service is impeccable, and the staff is respectful of the fact that guests and visitors are there to do business.

Yelp
The best property in Cannes. They have really stepped-up the service and attitude since my last stay... Could be a new Gen. Mgr. or did they add a training manager? Everyone seemed pleased to have guests there spending money. It is a refreshing change!

Yelp
I would give a thousand stars if i could. We are accustomed to super luxury, elegance and excellent service. We regularly visit diamond star resorts globally for pleasure and business purposes. That being said, our 10-day experience at the Majestic Barriere far exceeded already high expectations and established a new benchmark. Of note, I spent weeks researching the best spot to stay in Cannes. Location/Customer Service: We went in Spring 2015, the week of Congress and just before Festival, so you can imagine the busy and chaotic energy in Cannes during that time, but the entire staff at this hotel made us feel as though we were the only guests. Truly. I can only imagine how it is during a low season. The staff was always attentive, warm, courteous, professional and available to assist. Absolutely exceptional customer service provided and particularly by Girard and Tibaud. This hotel is located in the absolute best part of Cannes. It is easy to walk everywhere from here and see everything. We have family spread around Cannes, Beaulieu sur Mer, and were able to easily meet up from this hotel. Check-in: First, the moment we arrived the valet, bellhops and greeters were spot on - friendly, but not too friendly, and very efficient. Fouquet parfum intoxicating the main level room is nice too. Then, the check-in process was smooth and swift - thanks 100% to Girard. Frankly, I was concerned because I had sent an email directly to the GM to verify our room and received no response. I alerted the front desk to this issue upon arrival and within seconds, Girard approached us with a professional and warm attitude. He answered our questions and immediately made us feel confident, despite the lack of email response, that our stay would be incredible nonetheless, and it was indeed. He personally showed us our room to assure our satisfaction, which he successfully achieved. For the following days, as we would come and go - the front desk staff was helpful, smiling, polite and eager to provide assistance. The superior level of communication amongst the staff can be the only explanation for how everyone seemed to know our wants and needs before we could even ask. Room and Cleanliness: Spectacular and breathtaking, top floor sea view room. The patio was incredible. We sat out there everyday at sunset to absorb the beauty of our surroundings. I'm still dreaming about the day we return for another visit. Lovely décor and nicely situated furnishings. Bedding and linens were sublime. The bed lent itself to a dreamy comfortable sleep. It was also very quiet and peaceful, particularly when you close the window covering. The room was immaculate and super clean, daily, and at evening turn down the refresh was beyond what we expected (not because of the delicious chocolate left bedside but because of the cleaning staff's attentiveness to detail without getting personal). Towels were always refreshed and not once did I have to ask for housekeeping. I happen to be very particular and there was not one spot anywhere that needed cleaning - for the entire 10 days! They always seemed to know when we left in the morning and in the evening. So discreet and efficient. Dining: Each morning we started our day in the hotel restaurant (Fouquet) for breakfast buffet. Well worth every cent. The food was excellent, fresh and had everything you could want even if you are on a gluten free, low calorie or other nutritional program. We ordered off menu as well at times and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality. I also invited a local guest to join for a few meals and she was also very impressed. From the first day, Tibaud remembered our names and the tables we preferred. Starting off the day with such a pleasant and personable experience, despite the fully booked nature of the dining room and the hotel, made the Barriere feel like a home away from home. Tibaud contributed to the positive and joyful mood and by far the best server I have ever had and the best asset for the restaurant, if not the hotel. In fact, there were days we thought of dining out, but knowing we would be greeted by his kind face and positive energy lured us to return each day. Pool & Beach: We ate poolside on nice days and that was also a lovely experience. The pool seemed very nice and clean but we did not have opportunity to use it on this particular trip. The poolside bar we tried a few times before dinner and going out. The service was excellent. Family and Romance: Though this trip was for the adults only, we often travel with our daughter. We noticed several families with kids and decided it would also be a great spot to bring her with us next time!
