Hotel Bastiò Suites | Suite Lusso Catania

Wonderful rooms, truly an oasis if you want to escape the touristic center, great attention to detail in the rooms, and some of the best in the area! The area itself is just outside the center and the parking is a bit tricky, the area at night becomes a bit dangerous....especially for tourists and women, if you dont speak italian. The service itself was lovely up until we got there, and then the concierge was subpar, they could not help with much, no valet, and public parking spots are not safe, and their "garage" they recommend is an 8 min walk. The staff itself is lovely, but I dont think they are used to servicing 5 star guests as of yet. Overall, one of the best in the area, but if you are looking for 5 star treatment, concierge, etc., its not yet well equipped.

Very professional and friendly communication. Celso made us feel welcomed even before we arrived. Our suite was large, air conditioned and clean. The best aspect was its location. Literally a few minutes from the historical centre, which was full of shops, restaurants, churches. It was a short walk (15mins) to main train station and next to bus stop to airport. |Breakfast was delicious. A mix of local cheeses,meats, fresh bread, fruit, juices, croissants, cakes, quiches. We were stuffed every morning with fresh tea and coffee made for us. |Having Netflix was useful as we were tired after days of sightseeing and could watch before bed. |We didn’t use the whirlpool bath as it looked a bit complicated. |The staff were very friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend this accommodation if you want to stay in Catania. It was perfect for our 5 night stay and we would certainly return.

We stayed at Bastio Private Suites on our final night of a two-week vacation. We selected the hotel in Catania primarily for its location to the airport for our morning flight from Sicily home to Kansas City. We were very pleased with our final day and night in Sicily. The room was very cool and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and we had so much fun exploring the area and picking up last minute gifts, like honey from the Sicilian black bees. We had an impromptu lunch at the restaurant on site that was fantastic. The staff arranged a car to pick us up early and take us to the airport which went off without a hitch. I highly recommend this stay!

We are so delighted to have found this boutique hotel, so welcoming and refined, just a few short minutes walk from all the treasures of old town. It meets all of our expectations from all of the excellent reviews that we read prior to booking. I admit to being a bit puzzled at the most recent negative review claiming absence of staffing, as we’ve found no such thing. I think it’s important to understand the differences in a boutique hotel vs a large hotel chain. One trades the bustle of a large commercial hotel, with all its’ impersonal staff, for the personal touch of those highly vested in the history of the city and the historical building which you will call home for your short tenure here. We found the staff here to be present and attentive to our needs. And we found our room to be spacious, comfortable, and the sleep quality (beds, bedding, pillows, and blackout shades) was excellent. I also loved my large jetted tub, it was a welcome way to diffuse the day before dining out at nearby highly-rated restaurants. So perhaps it comes down to expectations. Bastio Suites exceeded ours, we highly recommend this charming boutique hotel.

Our stay here was like finding an Oasis in the middle of the desert. I really didn't want to leave the room to be honest. Celso (the manager) was extremely helpful in arranging our parking, restaurant recommendations, and all general inquiries we had. All the staff that we associated with were great. Their restaurant is also very good. The location is perfect for exploring Catania and the eastern part of Sicily (provided you have a car) including Taoromina, Siracusa, Noto, etc.. I would definitely stay here again.

Bastiò Suites: Fortress Walls, Phantom Staff We arrived at Bastiò Suites to find a wonderful young man who spoke perfect English. Outside, he told us the history: the hotel occupies Charles V’s ancient Spanish fortress, with walls thick enough to withstand the sea, invading armies, and the lava that flowed down from Etna that destroyed Catania in the late 1600s. Then we entered and found construction. Dust and noise, though our room was mercifully distant from it all—delightfully large and well furnished. But when we ventured out with questions, we found no one. Not upstairs, not downstairs, not in reception. The hotel had become a Marie Celeste, fully functional but mysteriously depopulated. The warm young man had vanished behind those impenetrable walls. Someone did appear, eventually: when it came time to pay the bill. The irony is sharp. A fortress built to protect people now houses a hotel advertised as luxury where guests feel curiously unprotected—not from lava or armies, but from the smaller vulnerabilities of travel. The need for directions, recommendations, a human presence. Charles V understood defense. One wishes the current management understood service. The room was lovely. The history compelling. But hospitality requires more than thick walls and a warm entrance. It requires the ability to be found when needed.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Big mistake… Not a 5 Star Hotel. Purchased 8 nights, left after 2 nights. We were charged for the additional 6 nights (understandable) but the facility was bad enough that we forfeited over 3,000 Euro in prepayment in order to leave. Room #6: The fruit that was waiting for us in our room was rotten and bruised (picture) , the placemats at the breakfast were soiled (picture), the “terrace” was actually an elevated, encased glass room within our room with a fogged exterior window and a small vent at the top (pictures). The only thing the “terrace” offered was very loud street noise (cars, trains, and sidewalk foot traffic) through the vent at the top. There is no concierge, and the front desk is only attended at check in and check out (the hotel claims to have attendant at the desk during daytime hours but we never saw it attended). We were shown to our room at check in, but there was no information provided for the multiple function spa tub or multiple function spa shower. The hotel patio was never mentioned - We only came upon the patio by accident when searching the hotel for someone to help us. The room is beautiful, but does not have adequate space for clothing and belongings (we traveled with 2 carry on bags and 2 small backpacks). This is the first time I’ve given a 5 Star hotel a poor review. If you are looking for a 5 Star hotel…. Keep looking.

We only stayed here one night before an early flight out of Catania but it was a fantastic hotel with excellent service. The rooms are huge with lots of amenities and the location in close to both the town center and the airport. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. The only thing that was a little quirky was a sliding glass bathroom door in our room that provided very little privacy for those using the toilet. Just instruct your spouse to cover their eyes and ears.
