Hôtel Bel Ami

"If you're keen to try on that French intellectual look, take Hôtel Bel Ami for a spin the next time you're staying in the City of Light. The hotel, tucked away on a tiny side street in the bookish Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, sits on the lower-key Left Bank—the Rive Gauche, as they say—and was formerly a 19th-century printing press where the first copy of Guy de Maupassant's novel, Bel Ami was printed (hence the name). Dip in and out of a few of the famed nearby cafés, including Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore, before heading to your bright, minimalist-chic room, and don't forget to at least peek in at Bel Ami Café—stocked with heavy-hitting art books, the spot also rolls video screenings of Parisian life that'll really make you feel like a local."

The first venue of our European getaway did not disappoint. We had lost a bag with Air France and the hotel staff was very concerned and helpful. They took it upon themselves to monitor the situation with Air France. The location is great and the room, not overly roomy was clean and well arranged. The staff was extremely friendly and service-oriented. The breakfasts were more than you could want with amazing standard and French choices. The atmosphere was first class and the service matched. It is Paris so therefore not inexpensive but you could not ask for a better hospitality experience.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Bel Ami several times and have always appreciated the quality of the hotel and the excellence of the service. Most recently, the team showed exceptional kindness and understanding in handling an unexpected change in my plans. This level of personal attention is increasingly rare and truly makes a difference. Bel Ami remains my go-to hotel in Paris, and I highly recommend it.

My recent stay at Hôtel Bel Ami was exceptional. The service was outstanding, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. Notably, they were incredibly helpful with my luggage, making my arrival and departure seamless. The quality of the bed and linen ensured I woke up refreshed and ready to explore the city each day, even after long walks. The comfortable bedding truly made a difference in my overall experience. The hotel's location is also a major plus, with a wide variety of excellent cafes just a short walk away.

Loved our 5 nights at the Bel Ami. So quiet!! Incredible towels and bedding. Great sized bathroom for Europe! The people were all so great and they are always at the front to welcome you and give you any info you need. Highly recommend. Great location to see everything.

Google
We absolutely loved this hotel and will be making a return visit as soon as possible. The staff was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The accommodations were top quality, the bed, the towels, the lighting in the room. Every detail was well put together. The morning breakfast was wonderful as well. One morning they even delivered it to the room. I will be dreaming of the espresso, orange juice and chocolate croissants until I return. The location couldn't of been better either, close to shopping, restaurants and Louvre. Magnifique!

Google
Stayed here recently for a couple of nights and the people working the desk were great but they messed up our request for a room and blamed our booking even though we had proof we had made the request. There were many other issues with our room that occurred throughout the short stay. The location was great.

This is the best hotel - service is impeccable in every way. The concierges - Eugene and Hafedh saved our trip multiple times. They know the city and take care of you like family.

Yelp
Really nice hotel, located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, with many nice cafes and designer boutiques within walking distance. I was upgraded to the 'Superior Room,' which was smaller vs. some of the other hotel rooms I'll normally stay at in the states, however, the hotel and the room was super modern and had nice decor. Me, my daughter and 3y/o grandson bunked together since we were on vacation and it wasn't bad at all. We were given the option of a queen or twin beds and opted for the queen, which was quite comfy. On another note, Máxime, very helpful concierge staff member, went above and beyond to return my wristwatch to me. Me and my family were on our way (walking) to the Louvre and were about two blocks when Máxime came running to return my watch that I had left in the hotel lobby. Now that is amazing customer service!!All of the staff were kind, super friendly and were attentive to our every request. Great hotel and highly recommended!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in an amazing location! My kids took one look at the hanging chairs in the lobby and decided it was one of their favorite hotels ever. The only issue was there are only 2 hanging chairs, which became a constant fight among our 3 children. Once again traveling works way better for families of 4, but we do love kid #3! :) It's hard to also find hotel rooms for families of 5, but this was the perfect set up. We had rooms 406-407, which were connected. The kids had their own room of 2 twin beds + a cot and we had a big bed in our room. The rooms themselves were small, but to be expected in Paris. The kids also loved that there were stuffed animals, balloons and treats awaiting their arrival. Nice touch! The bathrooms were also very nice, although I wish the kids bathroom had a shower vs a tub, but the tub is probably very helpful for smaller children. All the staff were super helpful when it came to dining reservations, other suggestions for excursions and even helped us get a car service to Versailles when we realized we didn't have a car booked to get there. It was really difficult to get an uber/taxi for a family of 5 in Paris so we appreciated this. The restaurant in the lobby served lovely wine. I enjoyed a cheese plate one night and my kids raved about the fish and chips (they were hooked from their previous week in London) and truffle mac & cheese. Our breakfast was included and I really enjoyed the buffet. I settled into a morning breakfast route of scrambled eggs, mushrooms and (when in paris) a croissant. And my kids loaded up on all the pastries and breads. I used the gym about 3-4 times as well. It was small, but had everything I needed to get a somewhat decent workout. There's only 1 treadmill, but I was able to snag it all mornings, but one. There are so many great hotels to stay at in Paris, but this is definitely one I'd recommend. And we loved the neighborhood too!!

Yelp
Location.... Simply the best in Paris! Less than 1/2 block from Entrecote, Cafe De Flore and Les Deux Magots, plus it is just blocks away from a host of my other Paris favorites like Atlas! If you are up for a ten minute walk, cross the river and enjoy a day at the Louvre... 10 minutes further and you are at the Arc de Triumphe! The Saint Germaine area is special because it is still very French! Of course there are tourists... but you hear way more people speaking French than you hear the English and Arabic that dominate the Champs Elysees!! The hotel is classy, quaint, modern and continuously being updated! Be sure to make special note of the Manuel Merida art piece! The rooms are modern, comfortable with very good beds! The bathrooms are modern and have everything you could possibly want! All the staff is as welcoming, nice and professional as can be... There is a culture of gracious welcoming that you can feel from the second you enter through the front door. The Bel Ami Cafe serves an excellent breakfast and Vincent, the manager, sets a wonderful example for the entire s Two of the gems that make the Bel Ami a hotel that feels like a home are Monalisa in the Cafe and the head concierge, Christophe.... Thank you for another incredible visit!!!

Yelp
Stayed here for 4 nights (fine enough, small room) and had to check out early because i got very sick and moved my flight back home sooner. I explained the situation to the hotel and asked for a refund for last 2 unused nights. they told me I canceled outside the allowable window so they cannot refund me. This business is extremely inflexible and does not actually care about its patrons even in extreme situations. I was worried enough about my health -- a refund for the last 2 nights would have been a great gesture given that I was a paying customer for the first 4 nights. Would never return! (Also they charge 8euros for a tea!)

Yelp
An excellent boutique hotel in a great location. Many major locations are walkable and the metro is very close. If you want to be in a neighborhood instead of in the heart of the tourist district, the Bel Ami won't disappoint.

Yelp
We had such a lovely stay at Hotel Bel Ami! The staff truly went above and beyond to make our experience great. - A few days before our arrival, they emailed us to ask if we needed anything before check-in. - On the first day, we arrived before our check-in time, and the staff stored our bags for us so we could head out for the day. Since we had just gotten off an overnight flight, they also let us change and freshen up in the spa area. - We mentioned that we recently got engaged, and the staff decorated our door and gave us a voucher to each get a glass of champagne at the hotel bar. Such a nice touch! - They printed our disneyland tickets for us and also booked our travel to the airport at the end of our trip. The hotel is in a great area - near plenty of restaurants and shops. Our room was clean and much bigger than I was expecting. We'll definitely stay here again when we come back to Paris!

Yelp
Stayed in this wonderful hotel in late October. Excellent location, great staff, comfy bed, nice breakfast included. The room was a nice size with a nice shower and everything was immaculately clean. Free WiFi throughout the hotel was good, but the signal was not always as strong as I might have wanted. Nonetheless, it served its purpose. The hotel really stood out with its excellent service. The staff were all friendly and immensely helpful. I felt very much at home here.

Yelp
Cute hotel in Paris right in the midst of the 6th arr. We very much enjoyed our stay here and really appreciated the service the hotel provided. Ahead of our arrival, the concierge helped us book reservations for restaurants, as many don't utilize email or websites for booking. The rooms are small, but nicely appointed; come on, you have to know that going in. We had a room with a view of Saint Germain des-Pres church and the courtyard that surrounds it. The room was a bit too warm for my liking (and we couldn't quite get it to cool off), but luckily, the window opened, so we had brisk, late-December air wafting in throughout the night. The hotel is incredibly close to the Saint Germain metro stop and tons of cafes and shops. The hotel bar was very cute and the service there was great. Cocktails are apparently not all the rage in Paris, or at least in Paris hotel bars, and the pours are not generous enough for this lush! A small gym is available for use, free wi-fi throughout the hotel, and a very polite staff. We had a great time. Merci, Hotel Bel Ami!

Yelp
Pricey but excellent French hotel, on my rotation (though not so great as to be my go-to hotel). The rooms are small but in great condition. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and very English-friendly (my French is virtually zero, ugh). The location is fabulous--right down from Cafe Flore, St. Germain church, and lots of shopping; if you are a walker you can walk to the Louvre, Notre Dame, St. Supplice and the Eiffel Tour for that matter. I usually check on-line to see if they have any deals--if I can get a good rate, I often stay here, but if I'm going to be paying the rack-rate I usually move on. Yikes, the prices! But when I stay here, I do like it.

Yelp
We stayed here and the staff is absolutely amazing!! So attentive and always making sure we were not only comfortable but made to feel special!! We showed up and they welcomed us and congratulated us on our anniversary! The door to our room had a bow on it and the bed has rose petals!! How cute!! Manuel and Christof were so great and felt like they were friends not staff. We will definitely be back and I will always highly recommend this beautiful hotel. And the location is perfect because it's not too touristy but feels like your living in Paris, not just visiting

Yelp
Stayed at the Hotel Bel Ami for three nights over a long weekend in February and had a great experience. The room was very nice and large for Paris. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location couldn't have been more perfect! I would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
Clean modern room, helpful staff, great location, comfortable bed, and small workout facility makes me a happy traveler. This hotel had everything we needed. Of course the room is small by US standards but it is hard to find large rooms anywhere in Paris. The staff was very helpful with booking dinner reservations and they had a nice bar area to enjoy a cocktail before heading out for the night.

Danny S.

Yelp
This exquisite hotel is perfectly located, being close to sites such as Notre Dame, the River Seine and the Eiffel Tower, as well as art galleries and museums such as the Rodin and d'Orsay. When one thinks of French modern elegance, one should think of this hotel. There are many great restaurants in the area and not "touristy". The property is well appointed and also offers great service; one example is Janet who attended to all of our needs. The hotel arranged our Disney experience, polished my shoes, gave us the most delectable chocolates and had a wonderful breakfast buffet. One plus point is that the hotel has a nice supply of sturdy umbrellas, which is important given how much it rains in Paris. As part of the breakfast we really loved the choice of many different honeys.

Yelp
We stayed here two years ago and had a magical visit. The team there is amazing and very helpful for planning anything. Prior to this hotel, we have stayed elsewhere that wasn't as modern. This one meets everything we are looking for and more. The food at the bar is really great too! Saint Germaine is the best hood in Paris. We are coming back again for a stay at this hotel for Xmas and New Years. Can't wait!

Yelp
Fantastic concierge staff- were so helpful and got us tickets to some hard to get attractions! Great location - walking distance to the seine.

Yelp
Absolutely love this hotel. The staff at the front desk were all so sweet and helpful, and our room was clean, spacious, and contemporary. Even though the room was pretty big, the bathroom was small- but that isn't extremely important for me anyways. The hotel has a small restaurant which I didn't try so I have no comments there, but I did use their small fitness center which is tiny, but adequate. The highlight of this hotel for me is LOCATION. It is on a cute small street in the center of the 6 arr (St. Germain des Pres). One of the best restaurants, Relais de L'entrecote is literally a 10 second walk. It is also 8-10min walk to the Seine, Jardin de Luxembourg, and maybe 10-15min to the Louvre. Sitting among so many great restaurants, shops, and landmarks, this hotel is perfect if you want to do some sightseeing, but also if you want to get away from the tourist madness of the Champs élysées and Eiffel Tower areas. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Sparkling clean, walking distance to the Louvre and Notre Dame and a block from a Metro station. On a quiet side street. The staff could not be more helpful. Pricey but not out of line with the city and the area. Breakfast was complete and had a good amount of variety. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
After touring around the UK for 10 days or so, we opted for a nicer hotel in Paris because we wanted AC and good security. We loved the location of this hotel and the desk staff was BEYOND friendly - and spoke good English, which was much appreciated since my French is terrible at best. The room was pretty small with the wardrobe taking up much of the space. The bathtub/shower was bizarrely inefficient, though. There was just a partial glass door, which caused SO MUCH water to splash all over the sink and floor because the shower isn't actually enclosed. Weird and made us have to mop up after each shower. But overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Worst hotel ever. Never never stay here . Horrible service terrible rooms. Sleep on the street before this hotel

Yelp
Hotel Bel Ami was was an enjoyable experience after our AirBnb. It is in the perfect location, right off of Saint Germain, with numerous restaurants and shops nearby. It's also walkable to everything from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower. The room was comfortable and luxurious. The staff was helpful and inviting. My husband loved the spa, particularly the steam room. I wish we'd stayed here for our entire visit!

Yelp
Amazing hotel right in the heart of Saint Germain des Pres. We loved our stay here and would recommend it to anybody who likes boutique hotels with excellent service. Don't get me wrong, we were nervous to stay here because all of our friends had horror stories about French hotels: tiny rooms, dirty rooms, no air conditioning, unexpected room charges (possibly for being American), mean hotel staffers, difficulty communicating. Some friends even said that we should stick to American chain hotels to make sure we get air conditioning which is absolutely necessary for us - we get hot very easily. However, we like boutique hotels and are not really chain hotel people. We believe that boutiques give you a better idea of the neighborhood/city you are visiting. We also like their quirky personalities and staying in more off-the-beaten path-type places. So Hotel Bel Ami conquered all of our fears pretty much immediately. Yes the room is small but I'd bet you a lot of money that most French hotel rooms are small compared to the ones in America. It was immaculately cleaned. It had air conditioning. There were no unexpected room charges. There were very nice common areas for drinks and breakfast. We loved the style and the splash of green accents everywhere. Very much our style. With regards to the hotel staff, they couldn't have been nicer. Does it help that I speak French a bit? Yes, probably. But when it got to a point where they were speaking too quickly or saying words I didn't understand, they switched to English without a hint of snottiness and helped us with whatever we needed. As soon as we arrived to check-in, somebody recognized our name and immediately said that we had a package (we pre-ordered the Museum Pass and had it delivered to the hotel). He handed us the package about 30 seconds later. Wow, that's service. I didn't even ask for it, it just appeared. The concierge helped us with a restaurant reservation along with tickets to Versailles and a Seine boat tour. So convenient and so easy. Most taxi drivers/uber drivers knew Hotel Bel Ami by name, but it was also easy to explain in French where it was located. No problem at all. If we go back to Paris, we will most definitely stay here. Loved the location, loved the hotel, loved the staff. Well done, Hotel Bel Ami!

Yelp
An expensive - rephrase, a very expensive - French hotel in Paris. On trips to Paris in the future, I would continue to consider the hotel as a part of my rotation for client meetings but the pricing would keep it at a 3rd or 4th choice. I just cannot justify their rack rate (or even my corporate travel discounted rate during high season). The staff is very friendly, and more importantly the staff is very English friendly, which can be a challenge in Paris (not an urban legend... the French really do seem to despise English speakers). The location is a dream for both the tourist and the business traveler (except the commute to CDG is quite long). You are situated near Cafe Flore, St. Germain, St. Supplice, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre. All of these are easily walkable for you. The gym is small, but has enough of the necessities that you can get by doing both cardio and limited light weights (weights up to 25kg, or roughly 55lbs). Overall, a quite nice experience except the absolute cost.
google avatar

Carmen L.

Yelp
Very cute and friendly hotel. All the staffs are so friendly and they remember what we like for breakfast. First day of arrival, they have prepared fresh juice and chocolate for us. We would come back to this hotel on our next visit to Paris.

Yelp
I absolutely adore the concierge team at the Bel Ami. My boss frequently travels to this hotel when she visits Paris - Jean Emmanuel, Thibault & Matieu, along with the rest of the concierge are always on top of making sure all my boss' transportation/reservation needs are met, down to last minute changes. Always a pleasant experience!

Yelp
Great location in Saint Germain. Good service. Nice rooms and amenities for both business and personal travel. Great experience!

Yelp
The hotel is expensive. Rooms are extremely small. Staff is awful, they stole money from my luggage, and no one admited it obviously. I do not recomend this hotel.

Yelp
For context- I used hotel points and was on holiday with my sister... so we splurged a bit for our 3 days in Paris. Hotel Bel Ami has the best possible location- it is on a charming little road, very close to the Sain Germain des Pres metro station, close to the latin quarter (lots of cute funky restaurants) and all of central Paris. The decor is modern but a little quirky (books and libraries were a theme) and they have these great spherical hanging chairs in the lobby that are soooo cool (we had a friend with 2 kids who visit us at the hotel and they LOVED them). The room was compact (but then, what in Paris isn't??) However it was very, very well designed- the space had been expertly put together in a way that made you feel like it was twice the size. In addition the service was top notch- the room was cleaned, there was a turndown service, water bottles every day and gourmet chocolate when we arrived. We got there early and although we could not go to our room they took the bags up and took care of everything for us. Overall it was a 5 star experience and because we used hotel points it was a lovely splurge. I would also note that although I was not there for work, I think it would have been a great option- it is very well located, and the staff was excellent (the concierge staff were great about restaurant reservations etc). It is not easy to be good at both business travelers and holiday travelers but it seems to me that the Hotel Bel Ami may have just managed it!

Ingrid W.

Yelp
Love this hotel. Felt like home from home . Could walk everywhere and not get lost Staff very friendly and helpful It IS VERY pricey Breakfasts are good and no objections if you are quite late In the room I found the lighting a bit dark in the central area when I needed it Other than that everything was great

Yelp
This Hotel is absolutely incredible. I cannot say enough great things about the staff, the rooms and service. The waitress from the doorman, counter service people and concierge..they were just unbelievably helpful. You would think that I was giving them big tips but I only gave a tip to the doorman that fetched my cab when I finally checked out after a weekl! They take care of you with a smile and willingness to help no matter what you need. One thing I should note is that all that great service is probably built into the price seeing as this is NOT A CHEAP HOTEL. It's a luxury alliance hotel in the middle of Saint Germain near everything that's cool and awesome to see in Paris. Their average rooms are 450 euro per night and they get way higher in pricing if you get a superior room. The rooms are cozy and will impress despite their more modern decor. I don't really know what else to say. If you want an amazing experience in Paris and have a decent budget then stay here. However, if you consider yourself having a more than decent budget then stay at the Hôtel de Crillon to experience authentic luxury at its finest, but from my experience that particular hotel can be a bit pretentious.
