Hotel Bethlehem

I've never had an experience like the Hotel Bethlehem. Normally I would opt for a chain hotel but I wanted the experience of being in the historic section and leaving my car parked for the weekend. This is relaxed elegance at its finest. The staff are incredible. How they manage two weddings and untold smaller gatherings in the same weekend while giving the friendliest and most excellent customer service is amazing. Bar and restaurant are quite good.8 The little Main Street has some nice little breakfast places and shops and a great Irish pub/Celtic goods shop and a really great book store. Walking through town is a nice treat too.

Susan, Francoise, Nina, Faith, and the entire Hotel B team were at it again, making my stay an awesome, memorable experience. When I'm here, I'm home...among family and friends. Spacious, beautiful rooms. Need a quiet oasis, ask for rooms 629 or 829. Or request a room overlooking Main Street for a spectacular, historic view. The food is amazing and the service is truly top notch! See you next year!

A lovely place to go for Christmas brunch! Many options and seasonal drinks available. They werent allowing brunch guests to park in the lot and offered a bus with overflow parking, that could have been communicated to guests when booking the brunch instead of day of. The decorations and tree were stunning and music during the brunch and caricatures were a nice touch.

We arrived on the Dec. 23rd. around 4pm in time to check in. We were fortunate enough to have 6:15 PM reservations at the 1741 terrace made at time of booking. The bartenders were excellent, friendly and attentive. When we moved to the 1741, the young boy that showed us to our table was definitely not trained in the service industry. We were fortunate to get a table right next to the Palladium window overlooking Main street. Was drafty but lovely and our server was the best. Our shower did not drain was our first disappointment and it was not addressed. The second day we did not have a reservation for dinner but approached the taproom check in desk anyway. Was told both restaurants were booked. We did see however several empty tables of two so we asked if there was a cancellation or no show policy. Told no but we could check back in a couple of hours or since we were guests of the hotel they would send room service....not a solution for us to check back at 9 or order room service in a room that just fit the bed. They looked passed our heads to help the next person in line. We went to the bar which was full and ordered a drink. This night the bartenders were disappointing. No eye contact. The drinks were placed on the bar so far in that the patrons at the bar had to pass them to us.....the glasses were also full and now we are holding sticky glasses. We were there for approximately an hour. So frustrating to watch the three empty tables of two not fill up. I called from the bar that took several rings before the phone was answered and than disconnected. We went to a nearby restaurant, the Edge, had a lovely meal. Returned in an hour to the hotel and the tables were still empty. We won't be coming back., not sure what made it #1 in historic hotels. Maybe the decor and a handful of employees. I understand the chaos that comes with hotels/restaurants at Christmas but the staff can do better.

This is my fifth stay at this hotel, and while my previous experiences have been positive, this time was disappointing. Upon arrival, I had to change rooms due to dirty sheets, hair in the bathtub, and an overall unclean room. To make matters worse, due to a weather change, the hotel can only offer either heat or air conditioning, not both. For the last two days, there's been no air conditioning, and my room is currently 78°F. Unfortunately, all they could provide was a fan. I hope management addresses these issues to maintain the quality I've come to expect from this hotel.

My husband and I have been coming here for about 15 years, staying over, or dining or having a drink at the bar. It has really gone downhill. This afternoon we wanted to go in and have a holiday cocktail. They've added a bar area in the lobby. We saw three women sitting at this bar with drinks and a bartender behind the bar. We didn't see a placard saying the bar was closed until we went to one side where there were empty seats. Confused, I asked the bartender if the bar was open. Her response: "The bar will open when I take the signs down". Well screw you, too. We left. I've been increasingly disgusted with this place since the pandemic lifted and droves of people go into Bethlehem in giant buses. It isn't the quaint, warm little place we have fond memories of. Sad to see it like this now.

Dined here for lunch-- this is a bit of an old school place for those who prefer a more traditional dining experience. It's the kind of place that had water goblets and has linen napkins. Places that grandmas like. I had the mahi mahi and Philly cheese steak- both pretty tasty. I think people come here mainly for the upscale atmosphere and ambience!

We just got back from our 2 night stay at The Historic Bethlehem hotel. What an amazing time we had at this magical place. The hotel was decorated for the holidays, 2 gigantic Christmas trees in the main lobby, the energy was in the air! We were greeted by the front desk staff. Suzie was working the front desk and greeted us with a big smile and hello. Maria was there as well and greeted us the same way. They both were so nice and were able to get us our room earlier than expected. Suzie moved us to the 7th floor and told us that we had a room with a wonderful view. Our room was dressed so beautifully. The linens and bed were perfect, the room a decent size and the bathroom with marble floors. (Not too big). Our view was looking out to the Lehigh Valley, and the Main Street with all the wonderful historic buildings. You can hear the sound of the freight engines whistle and just take it all in. Up in the mountains, you can see the star brightly lit at the mountain top! In the hotel, besides the catering functions that they do, the lobby of filled with piano music by Gary Mies which was amazing. The lobby led you to the stairs up to their restaurant. The main dining restaurant was decorated as well with elves on flying geese, palm trees, wall lighting and huge windows (chilly). Chelsea's our waitress actually took care of us for the amazing brunch (OMG)! And our dinner. She was pleasant and social with our table, her service was good are well. Across the lobby to the other side is their tap room bar. Spiros was tending bar and took great care of its as we sat for a while, watching the game and just enjoying the experience. We really had an amazing time at the hotel and I am looking forward to going back next year again with my kids and their families.

Classy, historic location. Needless to say it's pricey, but that was expected. Food & drinks are very good. Your date will be impressed.

What a gem! The staff was so friendly and accomodatiing and the room was perfect. an elegant hotel, great food and a rich history. we ended up sitting next to the owner, Mr. Haines, and we could hear his passion for the grand old hotel. We will be back soon. Gordy P and Pat B

I give this place seven stars, the atmosphere was all so lovely. Live music . Reservations are a complete must in this hotel, Bethlehem, we didn't get an opportunity to make reservations, but we were lucky enough to be seated at the bar where we met our bartender Sirios And Courtney Jo, We ordered a lovely dinner. I had a beautiful spinach salad with pecans, feta cheese, and the vinaigrette dressing that was drizzled on top with beautiful raspberries. This salad was so delicious. We also had a beautiful lobster bisque soup. Then the grand finale was a lobster roll on a buttery brioche rolls. It was so buttery and delicious that the butter was all over my eyeglasses. That's how I deeply involved in this delicious lobster roll I was lol lol. For our beverage, he chose Hoegarden beer , And I had a Cupid love, Prosecco and raspberry. So delicious the atmosphere was so romantic.

Bethlehem is known as The Christmas City and while there, lunch at The Hotel Bethlehem is a must! We ate there today. We had wonderful cocktails, delicious chicken salad sandwiches and delectable desserts of chocolate mousse and pumpkin cake a la mode with our coffee and tea (total bill $83). Plus, the whole place is decorated for the holidays. Don't miss a visit to their little store too!

For the "number 1 historic hotel in the US" the brunch was not even mediocre. Dirty and wet plates in the piles of scratched and boring china (plain, heavy duty white), empty chafing dishes, scatters of food across the buffet tables that staff ignored, terribly bland omelette, utterly boring pastries and poor desserts. All this topped off with a server who couldn't hold a cup, plate, or pitcher steady and didn't keep our beverages filled. I am a big tipper but adding 20% to a bill at a buffet when the service staff is little more than a hopped up busser isn't acceptable. Then came the check, $70.00 per person for an experience one can have at a Country Buffet. Disappointing didn't even come near to the way our party felt after our "dining experience" today.

I checked in when outside temperature was 34f and was told that there was no heat. When asked front desk staff told me that it is hard to explain but as the building is very old they have to intermittently turn of the heaters. He also went ahead and said that most people like to sleep in cooler temps. I asked for a heatet they brought a small radiator that warmed after about 10 mins or so and temp was fine. The next morning water did not get even to warms. I was told that I can run both showe and the faucet for at least 10 minutes and it will get warm. Well after about 15-20 mins of wasting water it was just lukewarm. I had to take a shower in cold water. A main person was at the door though and asked me if he could check the system when I was leaving and the front desk told me that they will change the room if it is not fixed. I came back assuming it was fixed around 7 pm. Then sitting on the bed I see two giant spiders crawling over my head...and lots of spiderwebs...so I call again and turned the small radiator in the room. They came with a broom and got the spiders.. they told me that I ask the housecleaning to wipe the spider webs. So I took another cold shower and water got warm after 20 minutes of a pre run..anyway I digress and saw another spider crawling on the bed that time. Staff seemed friendly and towels wet clean but other than that not worth staying..I was there for business and I did not pay. I let them know though so hopefully they will either get a refund or take their business to another hotel. If you want to stay like a pioneer woman/man perhaps but otherwise do not stay

So nice! Room quality is amazing and the people are sooo kind! Berry the valet is the sweetest! He helped us around and told us best food places he's so nice and helpful great guy!and Jamison is just so nice and funny she's very helpful and funny I love everyone here this hotel is amazing and the community is the best part!

Great old school hotel bar/restaurant. The ambiance is what you're really coming here for. Service and food are both very good, but the ambiance is what sets its apart. The cheesesteak is one of my favorites locally, and the Lost in Paris martini is a delightful customer favorite. I prefer the bar restaruant to the dining room for a variety of reasons, but you really can't miss with either experience.

If you would like to have a drink at the bar in the hotel- Tap Room will be your choice. DO NOT even try to enjoy your evening drink at the hotel lounge!!!! Bad.... Women who was serving us tonight has no idea how to make decent cocktail... it's raining outside, upsetting and expensive glass of water with no alcohol in it and a lot of sugar!!! Not fair...

Awesome brunch & never saw so much food in my life. Fabulous selection of different delicious seafood, beef, ham pasta & deserts. Great place to celebrate a class reunion. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas. A musician played the piano & accordion which was delightful. We will continue to bask in the wonderful memories of our nursing school's important events with collaboration from Hotel Bethlehem. The buffet is just a foodies paradise. Try it, you'll love it!!!

My wife and I went there for a drink, I'm not sure why they refused to serve us, but after waiting for a long period of time, we just left. We are Hispanic but I won't speculate on that. I was born and raised in Bethlehem and certainly expected better treatment but on the flip side we both learned our lesson.

Beautiful historic hotel, nice staff, great room. Wonderful bar and bartenders. Very convenient

Ate there for the first time recently over the Christmas holiday. Great atmosphere beautiful decorations. Had lunch and food was excellent, service superb. Lucked out with a window seat to catch the horse and carriages going by. Love the pics of hall of fame past customers quite impressive. Great spot to stop for drinks. Server was excellent and recommend the cheese cake for dessert. Would definitely recommend making reservations.

12/9/23 Wedding. Everything was beautiful and perfect for my son's wedding. Emilie was amazing and took care of everything. All of the staff were so nice and helpful. So happy they chose this location.

My husband and I stayed here overnight, and had breakfast here the next morning, during the holiday season. This hotel is the best of the best; in a class by itself. Everything in our room was genuine and worked well: the bathroom fittings (marble shower, extra large bathtub); very high quality, heavy, 100% cotton towels; complementary bathrobe; 100% cotton bed linens, duvet, and extra bedspread; genuinely hot and cold water; complementary air freshener. The room Keurig coffeemaker was heavy duty, and came with high quality coffee, tea, and accompaniments. The Christmas decorations in the reception area were tasteful and beautiful. Breakfast took awhile to arrive for everyone in the dining area, but the servers handled this professionally and courteously. Our breakfasts (Belgian waffles) came with fresh fruit, real whipped cream, butter, and maple syrup, beautifully presented, and tasted great: the best I have ever had. All the staffers with whom we had contact (valet, front desk, wait staff) were helpful and professional.

Had lunch at hotel Bethlehem today,June 7th. The soup special was shrimp chowder. The soup was lukewarm and we had to send it back for heating. Manager took the soup off the bill. Someone in our party ordered a cheesesteak. Well the three of us got our food but hers did not come out, we had to get manager and he went back to kitchen and brought it out. He took the cheesesteak off the bill. Someone ordered Mac and cheese for the table. We got our food and ask about Mac and cheese and the waitress said "oh we don't have it". Could have said something way before we got food. All in all the food was good. Possibly a new waitress. Who knows?

Stayed here for a two night holiday getaway with my wife. An easy 65 minute drive from where we live in Bucks County PA. The hotel is from the 1920's. Check in was painless and informative. We plan to explore a few restaurants and some history in the area. There is a lot to see and do right near the hotel. Parking is easy and right on the property. Self parking. We asked for a couple of wine glasses they arrived promptly The lobby is very nice and wonderfully decorated for the holidays. I can't recall ever seeing such large Christmas tree ornaments. Many notables have stayed in this place. In fact it seems as if every famous person from the past 100 years has stayed here. We got a seat at the crowded bar for a nightcap and it was all good. The rooms are nice and the bed comfy. We did notice sounds coming through the vent system but they were not too bad. We slept well. We had a breakfast in the hotel. It was served in the lounge area by the tap room. Good traditional American choices were available. Service was great. Coffee and local baked goods are available in the lobby from 630am, until they run out. The complimentary Moravian sweet cake was delicious. We wandered around after the meal and there are meeting rooms large and small throughout as well as a grand ballroom. The paintings in the smaller ballroom were interesting. Also there is a formal sit down restaurant on the west side of the lobby. One drawback is that due to the foreign virus most shoppes are only open Thurs-Sun and all open late and close early. Same for many of the museums and historical sites. Eateries and pubs are open but with limited hours. There were no restrictions in the hotel that we were aware of. We had a nice time and would return but not until this whole virus thing calms down a bit. Mark & Nancy.

The downtown area is charming. We had music Sunday buffet there. Food is great. Service is great, We sat next to the big window overlooking the street of downtown and behind the piano player which was very relaxing Sunday!

Selected this hotel as a place to stay prior to my wife's early surgery at St. Lukes. No wonder why this is been rated #1. From the time we arrived the service was beyond excellent. Attention to detail was very evident. It felt like you were staying in a home, not a hotel. Hat's off to management and keep up the great work. Have a lot to compare this to as traveled world-wide for years.

So when you arrive there is valet parking, which was good to know. When you check in inside at reception you are treated like kings and queens. It's literally like you're walking into just one of those very elegant beautiful historic hotels of the golden age and the way that they treat guests is just so delightful. And it's nice to see the staff wearing uniform so you can identify The employees. My room overlooked the lovely Main Street. I had a lovely tub in the bathroom and wonderful cable package on the flatscreen TV and a little Keurig coffee machine for us to use. The night that we arrived we had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel. It was wonderful watching the sunset from the huge windows... And then we had the perfect view of the star of Bethlehem! This restaurant has such beautiful tile! And it's amazing to say because it's from Doylestown from Henry Mercer's Moravian tile factory. It's just so precious to see this tile because it's one of the treasures of Pennsylvania! There are many ballrooms and there is a bar area also for eating as well as the formal restaurant. The hotel is centrally located so you can have wonderful walks around the city. There are great tours just a couple of buildings away. You can get a Moravian tour of the city or you can get a Bethlehem tour of the city. It's great to also learn about the city through the beautiful murals in the ballrooms. If you decided to dine in the bar area there are photographs of all the celebrities and dignitaries that have enjoyed the Bethlehem hotel. And that was very fun to see. Shirley Temple, Billy Joel... Dalai Lama.... For example. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and I really look forward to coming back really really really soon!!!

Words can't express the beauty of this historic hotel, charm, impeccable service. Such a charming town with sparkling holiday lights. The shops surrounding the hotel were very interesting along with restaurants, breweries and wineries.

I attended a wedding with a reception at Hotel Bethlehem, so that's the point of view for my review! Their main parking lot is very limited, however they have additional parking with a shuttle up to the hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful and decorated for the holiday season. There's several ballrooms available for events. It is a little confusing to navigate as the hotel is very large and there's a lot of staircases and alcoves in the hotel. The food that they catered was delicious and the staff were very friendly. They handled the big event like pros!

Decided to spend time in beautiful Bethlehem, PA this Easter. Stayed at the renowned Hotel Bethlehem from Friday - Sunday. Our experience started well, but went south as soon as we entered our assigned room. The room was warm (75), and the aircon was set for cool (65 before our arrival). We called the desk and was told they are in "heat mode" and we can open the window to cool down. They also offered (and we accepted) a fan to be placed in the room. We were on the 9th floor and the room got cool pretty fast. So, we left the window open, flipped the air to "heat" and set it to 71. Bethlehem is a college town (with Moravian and Lehigh). Main street is alive, atleast till 2am and there is traffic. Keeping the window open in a college town, with traffic all hours of the night is never a good idea, especially if you are a light sleeper. We could hear conversations in the street. Saturday night, we slept with the window closed. Around 1am, we woke up to 92 degrees in our room. The heat was just going. We turned the oven off, opened the window and cooled down the room. The next day we called the desk and was told "hot air rises" and you are on the 9th floor. That's reason for the temperature. Full disclosure - at checkout we were refunded our parking cost ($20) for our inconvenience. We like to travel, we have stayed at many hotels across the US, we have stayed at hotels in various countries - but has never come across such dismal customer service, the kind we experience at this hotel. We picked this hotel for its historic significance and with it comes a level of expectation. We were extremely disappointed. And to end on a good note - breakfast was great. The ambiance was superb. The host and the serving team was super attentive and nice. (even though the order was botched)

We had our 43rd annual conference at the Hotel Bethlehem this year, and what an amazing stay. The hotel and rooms, of course, are beautiful, but the staff was truly exemplary. They treated our team and attendees with such thought, care, and kindness. I can't finish this review without talking about the food... DELICIOUS! Definitely an outstanding Pennsylvania gem. If find yourself in Bethlehem, you must stay here. I will most definitely be coming back. 5 stars, 5 stars, 5 stars!

We recently held a conference at the hotel for 3 days and everything turned out wonderful! All of the staff were very friendly and were always making sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant staff went above and beyond by treating our organizers extra special for our dinner at the restaurant with specialized napkin decorations and a great special experience that was tailored to our industry! Everyone's stays were excellent and we all look forward to our next stay or conference at the hotel!

Are there really friendly ghosts living here in this hotel? Ask the guests who have stayed in Room 932, room with a Boo. This historic hotel features a beautiful view of the city, a 24 hr room service, a fitness center, a ladies boutique and fine dining with a tap room, all in the heart of the Moravian District of Bethlehem. This is a beautifully decorated masterpiece when it comes to hotel lore, especially during the high holidays. Get a room that faces the mountain so you can see the star of Bethlehem. Many famous people have stayed here. Enter the Tap Room and observe. The only drawback is the long distance to get to the parking lot.

The lobby is very charming and I would encourage anyone to have a drink or a meal there, but I would Never stay here again. Our room smelled like stale cigarette smoke, no doubt from bygone years. The reality is that the "charm" is great when having a drink downstairs but not so great for a stay. Our bathroom was so small one person could barely turnaround by themselves and the very tiny marble shower had grout repaired with cheap caulk noticeably applied over. The death knell was Susan, at the front desk, who responded to concerns about smoke smell with an aggressive combative attitude. Thanks but no thanks.

Beautiful place. One of the most extravagant hotels I've ever seen. Shrimp cocktail was amazing. Turkey club was just average but still delicious. Next time will come for dinner.

Both the Taproom and Terrace Room are wonderful settings, especially during the holiday season. I've been there for lunch twice in the last month. While I prefer the regular menu to the holiday menu I enjoyed both of my meals. Both grapes I were with left their lunches as well. Really appreciate that they have gluten-free options.

We loved this historic hotel except that they had so many events booked that the regular hotel guest couldn't get a seat at the bar or enjoy the guest lounge areas. It was just too crowded to sit and relax.

We did not stay here, but we were fortunate to come to the Thanksgiving buffet with some family members - eight altogether. This was probably the most magnificent buffet I have ever been to, at least of the Thanksgiving variety. Lavish tables of wonderfully prepared food of many varieties abounded. Service was great, also. Little wonder reservations are hard to get and fill up early.

I had the steak but it was really a pulled pork kinda and let me tell u it was pretty good. The ice cream was amazing best ice cream I've ever had tbh. The place is really fancy. The staff are nice, friendly, and very good looking.

Nice amenities and very friendly staff! The hotel is busy for the holidays so I'd recommend booking your holiday travel well in advance.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and beautiful accommodations! The parking garage is convenient to drop off and easy to use. Check in was easy and room service was wonderful! Our bed was comfortable and they had the pack and play on our room and set up when we arrived! Just awesome! Also, we loved staying on the fro t aide of the hotel so we could overlook the Main Street. This location is within walking distance of plenty of entertainment - bagels for breakfast. Chocolate shop for a sweet snack during the day and ice cream shop for dessert in the evening. Plenty of artsy shops and nice looking restaurants! The only possible downsides. The water took quite a while to warm up each time we took a shower. Also, I felt like the walls, doors and ceilings were very sound proofed - I constantly hear hall noise and people above us, even though it didn't sound like people partying and being loud. It was just constant general commotion - like every passing conversation was on a loud speaker and ever door slowly closed echoed through the walls. Thank goodness for white noise on my phone. Lastly, there is no complimentary breakfast here (but there is coffee, tea and a locally made breakfast cake while it lasts).

We stayed here on a lovely weekend for a wedding. 1) accommodations were superb. 2) service was quick, kind and friendly. 3) the hotel is a throwback to the grand hotels of yesteryear. 4). Great buildout. 5). The wedding was terrific! 6). Great walking tours of historic Bethlehem just outside the door. 7) parking is free and easy. 8) the hotel is just off the main road. 9) very reasonable prices. 10) the bar & restaurant are very fine indeed! Much more we could say, but this is clearly a 5 star hotel.

This isn't a bad hotel. It's not a great hotel. It's very clean. It's old so the rooms are small. The walls are thin. They must have gone with extra firm mattresses because after a short time it feels as hard as the floor. I have to pack an air mattress to put on the bed when I stay here. The lobby and restaurant are nice and the staff is very friendly.

This has been and continues to be one of my favorite hotels. It was built in 1922 and has all of the elegance of the era. Beautiful marble steps lead into a gracious open two story lobby. I am always greeted by pleasant people at the desk. I have never encountered an unpleasant staff member any where in the hotel. The guest rooms are just as elegant as the lobby. My favorite is the black and white marble bathrooms. They are so classy. The rooms are always clean and the bedding is comfortable. The hotel is a reflection of a caring management. Thanks Hotel B. We hope to return this Christmas. In case you are unfamiliar with the Bethlehem area, it really comes alive during the Christmas holidays.

There's many options along Main to go for brunch these days. And Hotel Bethlehem's Musical Brunch is certainly a classy affair with a big city feel without breaking the bank. Two people can go to brunch for $80 before alcohol....which is quite impressive if you can get through brunch dry, but I simply can never turn down a martini or mimosa from the Tap Room. The bartenders usually do an awesome job. You get a carving station, an omelette station, a waffle station, salad station, pasta station, bread and cheese station along with petit fours. Plant based options on the buffet are lacking, but a vegetarian portobello cheesesteak sandwich is available on the tap room menu. On special occasions, the staff will be popping champagne at no additional charge. Brunch usually runs until 1:30 for both terrace and tap room seating, though you can order off the tap room menu afterwards. I feel the terrace is just more intimate for brunch as it is for supper which equally boasts an exquisite and seasonal menu. The husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at the terrace. They also do fun events throughout the year like wine pairing classes to the annual roaring twenties ball to NYE. They also host weddings. The ice cream parlor across the street is interesting. I'm confused by the decor as there's a lot going on. I'd be delighted to see more of a shoppe theme - handdipped ice cream scooped into glass goblets and the staff is dressed like 1900 shoppe whites to give it more of a parlor feel. Franklin Fountain does exactly this and they succeed, and they also make their own. I think Hotel B can succeed just as well by having a signature recipe. Imagine checking out after your stay and taking a pint home of their signature recipe in your cooler! Instead, the current decor gets lost in a dizzy amount of Homegoods shopping spree and PSU memorabilia that feels like you're in Happy Valley... instead of Bethlehem. And I mean, Go State! Who doesn't like PSU creamery? But I feel like there's a lot going on for the eyes all at once here. Free parking on site as well as shuttle parking in the event additional parking is needed. A preserved landmark by historic hotels of America, it's comical to read some of the old laminated menus on what was served at the hotel back in the day as piano keys tinkle in the distance and the aroma of a juniper blend (the hotel's signature scent) tickles your nose pleasantly.
