Hotel Bosque del Mar

We enjoyed this hotel - its location is probably the best part about it, but it has a lot of different options, solid (if not a bit uneven) service, good food if you want it, and space to move around. ||My wife and myself, along with our two children (girl 17 and boy 19) travelled to Hermosa as the 3rd location in a 10-day trip. While it was probably our 3rd favorite hotel, that doesn't take away from the fact that it was very comfortable. We did have the 'penthouse' unit (with two queens) that was solid but probably not what you think of when you think penthouse - a sitting room, a small deck not looking at the ocean (and as anyone who travels to CR knows, looking the opposite way is usually alleys and somewhat ramshackle views). ||It is very spread out, has a decent pool with not a ton of sun (good and bad) that is very relaxing. It walks right out to the ocean.||The restaurant and 2nd floor 'club/bar' both look out over the beach and into a couple of the best sunsets I have ever seen (and we travel a lot). The food was unerringly solid, even really good at times - for CR I was impressed with their meat and other options. ||Service was mostly excellent, sometimes a little pushy, and rarely just a tad rude (usually at the free breakfast). ||Hermosa itself is somewhat small, but comfortable and has quite a few restaurants and even some nightlife. The surrounding communities are a bit bigger (Coco, Panama, and then of course Tamarindo a bit farther away). Easy to get to excursions as well - they are close which is nice! They have guys on the beach trying to sell the excursions (boat rides, jet skis, etc.), and actually they do a pretty darn good job! ||Overall VERY happy with the location and happy with the food and facilities.

Beautiful place, fine dining and snack foods, yoga class- these all contributed to the nice experience here. Special thanks to breakfast servers Alexis and Carlos for their congenial personality and getting our day started right. Thanks to Juan for the seafood restaurant recommendation offsite and for providing shuttle service. I was underwhelmed by Playa Hermosa beach, but it’s the Pacific. The pool area was nicer, and the boat tours offered were great

★☆☆☆☆ Misleading, Outdated, and Absolutely Not 5-Star – Avoid This Place!|I rarely leave harsh reviews, but this one is well-deserved. This hotel shamelessly markets itself as a 5-star property — in reality, it's a 2-star experience at best, and that’s being generous.||Let’s start with the blatantly misleading photos and descriptions on the hotel’s website. What you see online looks clean, modern, and luxurious. What you actually get is a dated, run-down building that looks like it hasn’t been properly renovated in decades.||The carpets are stained and worn, the furniture is dirty and outdated, and the entire place has an air of neglect. The hotel looks more like a tired budget motel than a supposedly premium hotel. Everything just felt grimy and unloved.||The pool is laughably small — definitely not what was advertised. You’d be better off calling it a decorative water feature than an actual pool. The elevator was broken during my stay, which means dragging bags up and down stairs and undoable for anyone with a disability— completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming to be 5-star.||The so-called "garden view"? Don’t fall for it. Mine looked looked like a construction site, complete with noise, rubbish and sewer smell — hardly the relaxing retreat they promise online.||The only redeeming quality of this place is the staff. They were genuinely kind, professional, and clearly doing their best in a bad situation. I truly feel for them, as they seem to be the only thing holding this sinking ship together.||In summary:|✔️ Friendly staff|✖️ Everything else||I strongly urge anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere. There are far better options in the area that are honest about what they offer. This hotel is misleading, outdated, and overpriced. A complete disappointment

Bryan was the best, and really made my trip enjoyable. Rain or shine he’s there for his guest to make sure their trip is the best. We were greeted politely and unsure of where we wanted to stay. Then we met Bryan who went out of his way to grab our luggage from the rain. Clarence made the best drinks while we watched the most spectacular sunset. Just to top things off, watching local monkeys socialize off our patio made things seem so surreal.

Overall my family and I loved this hotel and our experiences there. Check in was easy and the reception staff was very friendly. The room was perfect for our needs. I liked the white bedding and decor but it was practical as well. There was a lot of hooks for hanging towels and wet swimsuits. Housekeeping came early which I loved since we’re up and about early as well. The parking attendant was always smiling and friendly. The pool and surrounding area was cleaned well each day as well as the hot tub. I liked the location a lot. I’m glad we stayed in Playa Hermosa over Coco, it’s much quieter and more relaxing. The hotel is right on the beach with chairs and tables for hotel guests. The waves were good, never too strong or big during our stay, my kids were able to play freely in the water. The pool was fantastic. I really appreciated the sense of privacy due to all the trees and greenery. There is a family of monkeys that visits in the early morning and evening. We saw them the first day and it was magical. The only thing I didn’t love about this hotel was the restaurant service. I do want to reiterate that it wasn’t bad, but I do wish there was options to get a small side or something. My kids got food poisoning from a DIFFERENT restaurant, the next day they just needed something little in their stomach. They made me feel like it was impossible to make this accommodation. Even with that, we still had a great time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to others traveling to this area.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Bosque Del Mar and had a wonderful time! It was almost perfect. The staff is very helpful and many are incredibly friendly, especially Jonathan and Alexis at the restaurant and bar. They both went out of their way to make sure my son and I had a safe trip (we both have Celiac Disease). No issues and pretty good food (if a bit overpriced)! The only issues I had were small. The rooms are updated, but had some quirks - light switches everywhere that seemed to do different things each time you push them, not a great TV, a set of lamps that had to all be on or off - but the place is nice and well-maintained otherwise. Hermosa beach is more secluded, so you really need a ride to nearby Coco Beach to have activities other than the beach, but it's easy enough to secure that. Overall, a wonderful place to stay. Make sure you look out for Jonathan and Alexis, they are wonderful people and happy to do their jobs well. We miss our time there already!

The staff was the best!!! Like the best I've ever interacted with. My initial trip in November was canceled due to the weather but spoke with me from early November through January when we were able to come. So very attentive!! The hotel is small but cozy. It is next to an open area for beach visitors who aren't hotel guests. My taxi driver turned in this area rather than into the hotel entrance. So, don't turn too soon! I scheduled a facial for my daughter and myself. It was glorious!! It was very relaxing except for the construction going outside of the windows.😪 We were given some delicious fruit & a refreshing frozen drink after the service. Just icing on the cake!!! The room was very nice. It was so beautiful!! I felt very comfortable and taken care of while there. The rooms do have floor-to-ceiling windows which I love! Unfortunately, the outside folks walking around can see in. The pool is really pretty and at the center of the hotel grounds. We didn't get to see any monkeys but there were a lot of iguanas. Lastly, dinner and breakfast were great!! Yummy, flavorful, filling, and inexpensive. The waiters were kind too. They even helped me with my Spanish.

We had an amazing experience at Hotel Bosque del Mar on Playa Hermosa! The staff is amazing and very accommodating! The front desk was great with check-in and getting our bags from the car to our room as we were traveling with 3 small kids. Genesis, Carlos, Alexis, and all the restaurant and bar staff were fantastic. My kids loved Genesis and Carlos - they spoiled them while there. They made sure our food allergies were taken care of, bringing our 4 year old fruit plates without watermelon. And the chocolate milk Carlos brought them looked like a dessert, the kids loved it. Genesis and Carlos go out of their way to make sure the kids are having a good time and Alexis was great with having everything separate on the plates for the kids. The housekeeping was fantastic and our room was always spotless and smelled great. It was easy to get clean towels whenever we needed them as we went to the beach and pool every day.||The location on the beach is perfect and if there aren't enough chairs out on the beach, you just have to ask and they bring more. We rented kayaks one morning, it was so beautiful to paddle around the coast. This spot is great for swimming, especially with small kids. We easily could go out to where they couldn't touch (with life jackets on) and we could all just float in the ocean. That said, there are minimal waves so if you are looking for surfing or boogie boarding then you will want to drive to another beach for that. We borrowed buckets and shovels from the hotel so the kids could play in the sand. The pool was great with being a walk in so about half of the pool our kids could touch. They are learning to swim and this pool was great for them. We brought pool toys to share and they had fun with all the other kids at the resort. The iguana by the pool is pretty cool to see.
