It was the first time I'd stayed in a 2-star hotel and I was curious. Facilities exceeded high expectations: large rooms, modern furnishings, a large hairdryer in the bathroom, comfortable beds that don't make a sound when you move, bed linen without blankets, with a cotton duvet and bedspread, several pillows to choose from, new and fresh-smelling bathroom towels, and the people are all helpful and friendly - reception is open 24 hours a day. The location is very good, it's close to the University, with pubs and places to have fun.

The location was great for us as we wanted to be close to the university and the old town of Coimbra for our planned visits of the area. Parking our car was not that easy in this busy area, but we managed to find a spot at a reasonable distance from the hotel.||||Our room on the second floor was very nice and comfortable with its en-suite bathroom; breakfast was good. The breakfast area is relatively small, so much so that guests are asked to pick a time (e.g. 8.00am; 8.30am, etc.) and informed that they have half an hour to enjoy their food before leaving their seats to other guests. A little bit unusual, but not a problem for us, as the hotel did not appear to be too busy during our one-night stay. I'd assume there is a little bit of flexibility built in. :-)||||Guests may want to check with the hotel staff in case they plan to check-in earlier than 3.00pm. We showed-up around 2.15pm and our room was not ready. The lady at the counter was kind enough to allow us in 15 minutes later.||||Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Botanica.

The hotel was a great experience. It is in walking distance from the botanic garden, university and city center. Outside there is also a bus stop. The staff is very polite and helpful. The room are very comfort and clean! I stayed there for a week and if i ever visit Coimbra again, i would choose it for sure.

A small, friendly and family-run hotel close to the historic centre of the city. Spotlessly clean. Decent buffet breakfast. Comfortable rooms with good wifi. Exceptional value for money (from 39 Euros a room). Less than a minute away (turn right as you leave the hotel) you will find an amazing convenience store which sells everything imaginable, and a cafe/bar with good food (try the pork sandwich with garlic) at amazingly low prices.

Have stayed here twice and enjoyed it tremendously on both occasions. The rooms are clean and comfortable (AC) and reasonably quiet. The family that runs it is just extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The breakfast is good too. It's situated just near the botanical gardens which is a lovely area of Coimbra. I will always try to stay there when I visit Coimbra!

This is a small, inexpensive, friendly hotel very near the Botanic Gardens. Rooms are clean with comfortable bed, desk and chair and ensuite. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. Breakfast is simple (cereals, fruit, bread, fruit juice, cheese, yoghurt etc) but perfectly acceptable. The only negative was the over-bath shower which had no integral non-slip section but instead a rubber suction mat, which slid around even when applied firmly to the base of the bath, as soon as the shower was turned on. No grab rail either - highly dangerous.

The hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from town, the stroll in is easy enough but there is a lot of uphill walking on the way back so a bus/taxi might be a better option. ||The hotel itself is fine, the room we had was nice, breakfast was basic. Staff were friendly.||There are only two car parking spaces out front, we were lucky enough to get one, I didn't notice any other options for street parking on the hotel street, you may need to try the side streets.

This hotel seems to be on the edge of the city but it is not. A lovely walk through the Botanic Gardens takes you into the famous university and from there into the winding cobbled streets of the old town. It is clean, well priced, well serviced and offers a generous breakfast. Excellent place to stay for those wanting to explore this old university town.
