Great location. Staff friendly, room clean and a few free drinks in the mini bar appreciated. The lift was a little shaky, probably just because it is an old building but we opted for stairs after the first use.
The ceiling in our room (203) had a lot of flaking paint - again likely due to the building age but a bit of time and effort to rub it down and repaint would be a good idea - I imagine that the hotel don’t really look at room ceilings too much but guests laying on a bed do!
During our stay the local authority jet washed the street outside at 1am first night and midnight second night, this is noisy and disturbed our sleep - not the fault of the hotel but street noise in general is something to be mindful of.
In addition delivery to local bars and restaurants which means shouting voices, the clanking noise of crates being moved about and vehicles arriving and departing also starts from around 6 am. In summary it’s quite a noisy location, albeit due to things beyond the hotels control.
Our room was quite basic, shower below UK standard not overly powerful and fluctuating temperature, no wardrobe, loose toilet seat, no bin and poor lighting. All typical of an old building, which we were aware of, but don’t expect a ‘luxury’ stay!
Overall I would recommend but be mindful that it is an old building - parts may look a little tired but all the basics are there, including a great spot to base yourself to explore the area.
If you need good location and are only staying for a short while, and you don’t prioritise uninterrupted sleep and are prepared to offset location for some minor frustrations it’s a good choice.
