Mendi Argia (San Sebastian, Basque Country) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels
"After careful and creative restorations by Openhouse Studio, this villa on the cliffs overlooking San Sebastián is reincarnated as a charming boutique hotel that’s both coolly modern and deeply rooted in the past. Mendi Argia means “illuminated mountain” in Basque, and there’s indeed a warm glow to the place, especially when the afternoon sunshine spills into the hotel’s elegant interiors. The original wooden staircase remains, as do antique stone archways and a pelota court in the garden. But the rooms, though quietly understated, are as stylish as can be — think Gervasoni chairs, oak writing desks, BC2 wall lamps, and a Japanese-style black marble bathtub. The views from the infinity-edge pool are among the most memorable." - Tablet Hotels
Cute hotel in the hills but way overpriced. For $300/night, I would expect a higher degree of hospitality, a working coffee machine, and a larger room. We were excited about this place based on the Michelin review, but it’s not a place I’d recommend considering the abundance of other options for less money and better service in the area.

We came here because of the glowing review in Conde Nast Travel and Leisure magazine. We were greeted warmly||The hotel is way up on a steep mountain overlooking the city of San Sebastian. Awesome view ||There is absolutely no parking here. They wanted us to drive to the city and park in an lot and then take sn Uber back to the hotel. . As we left the hotel to park we happened to find street parking 10 minutes away. We walked back to the hotel||The good attributes stop there. The room has the bathroom inside of the actual|bedroom with slightly opaque glass between the toilet and bedroom. Gross||Super remote, no parking, no privacy to use the toilet and to top it off no food. Thats right no restaurant. We arrived later in the afternoon, tired from the ling drive, but no restaurant. For $350 USD you get this very odd room in a very odd hotel with no food for 18 hours ||Don't come without knowing all of this

The property is a lovely restored Villa and loads of character. Stayed in Room 3 for 4 nights - so spacious, great view and with good sized balcony (highly recommend). The linen and towels high quality and the bath a nice touch. The property / garden has several different nooks to have quiet time too - and the pool is beautiful. The architecture and design is also modern. This should be a 5 star property.||Unfortunately there are a few service delivery issues|- the breakfast was poor quality / limited choice and the coffee machine dreadful (think watery coffee) - we ended up going down into Gros for breakfast on two days so we could get a decent coffee|- the team were all pretty young, seemed newish/inexperienced and largely non-engaging|- there is no parking on site (other than to drop bags) - we like other reviews parked in the neighbourhood (which was tricky but manageable)|- the property / garden needs some investment to maintain it’s edge - it felt more rustic than architecturally sleek. ||It seemed to me a lot of time was invested in being in the latest trend books / editorial magazines - so probably over selling - rather than a strong service delivery focus. ||Hope they focus on becoming a 5 star boutique property.

Wow! Amazing small hotel in the hills overlooking San Sebastián, very stylish high end accommodation, large room , very nicely furnished, great bed and superb bathroom. Lovely common lounge for drinks and breakfast, great way to meet other travellers. Staff young but very polite and accommodating, especially Anja, well done.|English a struggle, but better than my Spanish!

We had a lovely stay of 9 days at hotel Mendi Argia. The quality of the rooms, the view of San Sebastián and the food for breakfast were all excellent. The parking is something we worked around and not in the end an issue for us. The staff were super friendly and trying some Spanish with them was fun and much appreciated. ||||So why 4 and not 5 stars? The WiFi. Whilst it would be lovely to think WiFi is not essential when you’re on holiday, that sadly is not true as soon as you want to research restaurants or plan day trips. Don’t bank on being able to use it for anything remotely more than sending a text message. Also, we had an issue in our room with a flashing security / smoke alarm light over our bed. Not an issue during the day but at night it kept us awake and meant that wearing an eye mask at night was essential. This could not be changed according to the maintenance chap. ||||Overall though, we loved the place, and especially the ‘group’ breakfast table that had us making new friends and getting and sharing useful tips for our days out and restaurant recommendations. ||||Finally, to mention again the staff who were very helpful in helping to ensure some dietary requirements were met. ||||

An escape from the city, this boutique hotel felt like a little getaway, but still walking distance to other restaurants, hikes and the beach. The staff was super nice and helpful. The infinity pool led to wonderful views of the city and the rooms had the charm of an old castle, but still with a modern touch and sleek design.
