Amazing scenery and wonderful staff. Our garden view room had the most epic view I have ever had. Hotel is run down though and needs some refreshing. Shortage of beach chairs was a problem. Room was very very clean. Loved the music! Location is secluded and fantastic.

This resort is close to the town of Chivirico. We stayed here just before the pandemic hit in February. It is exactly what you expect from Cuba. The rooms were dated buy clean and cozy. The food is mediocre at best but you don't come to Cuba for the food! There is a great reef you can get to and snorkel off the beach.

We were in this hotel from December 24, 2015. Lady who met us in Airport told us that we will have Nautical excursion on the boat and snorkeling. We booked it for Monday, as I was told in Dive center that this could be just in Monday and Tuesday. When we came in time, we saw that 2 divers was waiting for boat be back from diving in the morning. Employee of Dive center told us that it is not good condition for snorkeling, and for next Tuesday and Wednesday boat already booked. As we learned from another tourists Dive center never do any snorkeling excursion as it is free from company , so they tell what they want just to get rid from tourists who insist to have it. When one lady who was doing diving with them convinced Master diver to take us to snorkeling, he just did bring us and tell: ''Here a reef , go''. He set in the boat and was extremely impolite, we felt that he was doing big favor for us. During week we never saw any snorkeling excursion, either boat excursion, as they did just diving for money. So we were put in very upset situation with this free excursion, as Dive center never does it and very rude with tourists who try to get it. Nothing free in Cuba. Cuban service could be satisfied if you pay tips regularly, The food was the same and very often no tomatoes and fruits. Cockroaches came in room from outside, we put towels under the door,to prevent them. Beach could be not bad, but little black fly bite us as the vegetable garden was just closed to beach and they put horses to feed close to beach as well. The long chairs are very old and broken. Swimming is very poor as in the bay water is very shallow and no transparency, algae covered the bottom of ocean. As we are good swimmers we swam to coral reef, in the morning you can see corals on right side if the ocean is calm, But the current is very strong, you should go out on the wild part of the beach. We did not see any fish in bay, may be 2-3. We took trail from parking lot and turned cliff, 200 m, there is water protected by reef, no current and more suitable to swim, we swam along the reef. We liked our room as it had nice ocean view, lady cleaned every day and changed towels, we gave her very good presents. As I took VIP, we had minibar, but I asked to feel it myself, and they did it just ones, water we took in Bar. As we like to swim in transparent ocean , this is not place for us. We did not like behavior of Dive center employees. In general, we were in Cuba.

My thoughts on the hotel. The view is beautiful! The rooms are nice and clean. The beaches are not that nice. Dark sand with many sand fleas! There is a shortage of supplies so they were reusing plastic cups and only rinsing them, not washing thoroughly which was disgusting. The cleaning lady for our room did not replenish our toilet paper for 4 days, even though I repeatedly asked at reception and still never got any, so one of the guests we befriended got me toilet paper from the public washrooms in the foyer. Also, the variety of food was lacking. Hardly any fresh fruit and no fish considering we were surrounded by water.||||Tips never seemed enough. We hired a taxi to take us to the city and I wanted to see San Pedro de la Roca Castle which was 25 minutes from Santiago and he said it was too far. This seemed unreasonable to me as we were paying him 100 CUC for the day considering the government pays them less then 20 cuc a month. I know that the quality of life there is horrible. One of the employees told me she had to rip up her shirt for her daughter as they had no feminine products. For me this is a necessity and no women should have to experience this! In Santiago de Cuba, there were so many starving people begging on the streets. It was so sad. For me this was not a vacation! I left feeling sorry for the people, wondering why the government won't provide a better life and not happy with the service I received. We spent over 500 cuc on tips and the service was still unpleasant. Also, between the singers, the wait staff and bartenders it really didn't seem we had enough money. I read a post that said the individual felt like an ATM machine to the Cubans and it is very true. ||||The only thing that is hurting the tourism in Cuba is the way the Cuban government is starving and depriving their people. I also do not see why they don't work on developing themselves. There is so much land there and they can do more farming and manufacturing. The government seems to want to keep the country from development which is very backwards thinking in my opinion!||||In conclusion, now is not a good time to visit Cuba. With no supplies reaching the Island and the people starving for basic products such as hygiene and food, it leaves you feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. There is only so much you can do to help!

extremely disappointed , i have been there many times but the hotel closed during covid and I went to Holguin instead as many other regulars of Sierra Mar , i will not discredit the employees as they were very good and tried their best with what they have, lack of tourist ( we were at maximum 12 during my 2 weeks) so it was very boring, i am not to return for quite a while, write me in private if you want more info, Los Galeones closed during my stay

First of all, let's remember that this is Cuba. I have been to many other places claiming 4-5 stars with much poorer food, service, rooms. I can really say it for once that this is the only place I would go back in Cuba. Food: everything that I needed. Fish, meat, veggies and it was delicious. I did not have stomach problems at all and this is the first time. People were complaining that they did not have burgers or spaghetti. Really ? Why would you want to eat that junk ? Rooms: well maintained. We had hot water everyday. Beach: private, beautiful, you can swim to corals, walk and swim further away in cleaner waters. I really enjoyed the absence of other hotels nearby. We took an excursion on scooters and visited local people, highly recommended.

I stayed here from March 10 to 17. I stayed in room 104 (give or take). I always leave the "do not disturb sign" on my door because I don't trust the maids based on my many trips to Cuba where they go shopping in my room and take things. On this trip, I went to Santiago De Cuba for a 2 day trip and when I got back the maid had been in my room (thereby ignoring the "do not disturb sign") and I discovered that my shampoo was missing. There was no point in complaining because it is not a significant item. However, when I got home I realized that a new golf shirt worth $75 that I brought down was missing. Of course this is what thieving maids rely on. You don't realize anything is missing until it is too late to complain because you are already home. It's too bad that we have to spend valuable time on our vacation to run inventory checks because the maids are stealing from us.
