The hotel was clean and well-located, making it a convenient base for exploring Montreal. The breakfast was ok and offered a good start to the day.
However, I had a disappointing experience with one of the staff members in the breakfast area. My wife wasn’t feeling well due to a cold, so I went downstairs to get her something to eat. I had seen several guests, including a Chinese family, taking food upstairs, so I assumed it was allowed.
When I tried to do the same, the staff member called out loudly, “Excuse me! You can’t do that! You can’t bring food up!” I was embarrassed and confused. When I mentioned that others had done it without issue, she fell silent. Not wanting to argue, I ended up throwing the food away.
It left me wondering why the rule wasn’t enforced consistently and why it exists in the first place. Apparently, if you or a family member is unwell and unable to come downstairs, you’re simply not allowed to bring anything up. I don’t know who came up with this policy, but it feels unreasonable and out of touch with the needs of guests.
More importantly, staff should be trained to communicate hotel policies respectfully and discreetly. A polite reminder would have been completely fine but shouting at guests is not acceptable.
Because of this experience, I would not stay at this hotel again.
