15 of the Best Hotels in Sardinia for a Taste of La Dolce Vita | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set between the emerald coves of Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena Archipelago, this resort unfolds amid lush Mediterranean scrub and rocky nooks with terracotta-roofed buildings, shady terraces and thalasso pools. The property has been gently reimagined with redesigned suites, a cliffside gym carved into the rock, expanded outdoor spaces, a saltwater pool and a spa specialized in thalassotherapy plus a 9-hole Pitch & Putt. Guests can take daily departures to the La Maddalena Archipelago on a vintage 1927 wooden sailboat, and the dining scene ranges from fine-dining seafood at Il Paguro to intimate evenings at L’Île Flottante and more casual options—Gli Olivastri and L’Approdo—with freshly baked Neapolitan-style pizza." - Nicky Swallow, Lucrezia Worthington

This was our second stay at this wonderful location, and it truly felt like coming home.|Once again, we were completely enchanted by this charming hotel that immediately welcomes you with peace and relaxation.||The hospitality from everyone — from the reception (Franchesco) and team to the maintenance staff — is exceptional. Nothing is ever too much trouble.|The rooms offer beautiful sea views and include all the facilities you might need for a comfortable stay.||The peaceful atmosphere and the sunbathing areas are simply priceless — especially the floating pontoons, perfect for swimming or relaxing by the sea.|The small coastal path is ideal for a pleasant stroll or a refreshing drink. It’s well maintained by the friendly staff, who are always ready to help with a smile.||The Pizzabar (Georgia)provides great service and tasty dishes — perfect for a light lunch or a short stop.|Breakfast in the morning is a dream, served outdoors in a beautiful and tranquil setting.||The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly Il Paguro Restaurant, managed by Angelo — a wonderful host who is always attentive to every detail. From the service and the dishes to the wine selection, everything is handled with care, professionalism, and a genuine smile. His respect and dedication to his guests make dining here an unforgettable experience. In our opinion, it’s one of the best restaurants in the entire area. Our heartfelt thanks to Angelo and his amazing team!||A small suggestion: it would be great if the General Manager were to walk around the hotel a bit more and occasionally engage with guests — it would make the atmosphere even more personal.||A big thank you to the entire Capo d’Orso team for another wonderful and relaxing holiday.|We will definitely be back!||Linda & Edouardo

This is truly a five star resort. The setting is beautiful—right on the edge of the ocean. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. There are multiple decks around the property with views and access to the water. There is also a private marina where you can rent boats for excursions. There are several good restaurants on the property. The outstanding feature of this resort is the staff—all very friendly and attentive. The only downsides to this property are (1) its distance to the local town (Palau) and (2) there are not enough activities available. There is a golf course and a tennis court but both are poorly maintained. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a sea view and a large veranda.

This is one of the most beautiful places we have visited and we travel a lot. It’s total unspoilt beauty. The hotel is fantastic , the staff lovely and all set in wonderful gardens with superb views. |We spent the whole week sunbathing on one of the platforms over the sea which is just bliss so can’t comment on the many other facilities, the Spa, Marina and boat hire or Golf course. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. A special mention to the staff, especially Georgia and Jacamo in the snack bar who served us lunch every day and were brilliant. And all of the Gli Olivestri staff but especially Claudio and Roberto who make the dining experience special and a special mention to Jury who was the epitomy of a great waiter.|No real negatives at all . It’s not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and this place is well worth the expense. Can’t wait to come back.|Don’t listen to the negative reviews absolute nonsense

This resort is not 5 star and lacks many of the attributes you associate with such hotels. It peddles it’s natural beauty and tranquility on its website, but the reality is the the resort is somewhat wild and unkept, paths are uneven and finding your way around is challenging with a lack of clear signposting. The pool area is old, tired and out dated, complete refresh required. Lounges are distributed throughout the resort but not many with direct access to the water. The beach is nice and safe bathing but this is a public beach. Restaurants were fine without being outstanding. Given what they charge you should expect far better all round. Staff were polite and accommodating but we have experienced far better. After staying here we went South to stay at La Villa Del Re, now that’s truly 5 star, Capo d’Orso could learn a lot but doubt they will!

We had a wonderful stay here. Beautiful location right on the water. Surrounded by nature. It does not feel crowded. Many options from which to enjoy the view - the beach, platform, pool, hammock. The spa has many treatments to choose from. Breakfast was bountiful. We ate in each of the three restaurants and enjoyed them all. Best was the boat tour of Maddalena Archipelago we booked on property with Poseidon. 5 star, but not pretentious. We will be back!

Fabulous stay. From arrival the staff here are excellent. Allesandro's wonderful staff cater for your every need.|This beautiful hotel has so many areas where you can be private whilst still enjoying a 5 star service- discreetly and efficiently making the stay very special. |Exquisite food; great wines and ......I could go on but I think you get the picture. Just come and experience it yourself!

What a rare find of a hotel with so many stand out bits. Lushly planted with a boutique edge to room decor and friendly staff many of whom had been there for years, a picturesque setting, plenty of sun beds with privacy- which aren’t reserved ! And then also a fabulous restaurant included in half board with an outdoor terrace. Pinch me - still cannot believe the chef designed a new four course menu every night with 4 choices for each course and the food was simply exceptional (and with no supplemental costs- so rare). There were so many canapés and live nightly music with pre dinner drinks it started our evenings perfectly.|Took a great hike to a wild beach and lighthouse. The gym was open to the sea and drew even us in ! |Just an hour from Olbia airport, with a truly green ethos - this was a dream find. Gosh this place is fabulous ( we would come back for the Gli Olivastri restaurant alone !)

A Truly Memorable Stay at Hotel Capo d’Orso From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed. Walking into my room, I was greeted with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers and a thoughtful fruit platter — such a personal and heartwarming touch that immediately set the tone for my stay. The atmosphere throughout the resort is calm, elegant, and designed for pure relaxation. My room was comfortable and tastefully decorated, offering a cozy space to unwind. The surroundings are breathtaking — the sparkling blue waters, lush greenery, and quiet sandy coves create a perfect balance of relaxation and natural beauty. Waking up to such views was an experience in itself, and spending time by the secluded beach felt like having my own private paradise. The staff were consistently friendly, attentive, and professional, always ready to help with a smile. It truly felt like they went out of their way to make my stay special. Overall, Hotel Capo d’Orso exceeded all expectations. From the thoughtful welcome to the incredible natural setting, every moment felt carefully curated. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious, peaceful, and unforgettable Sardinian escape.
