The location was PEFECT. We traveled by train, and it was such a short walk with all our luggage. Then it was also perfect for visiting the main attractions either with the tram or on foot. The breakfast was truly fantastic and so well presented and fresh. The room was so spacious it felt like we were in heaven.

We only spent one night, but we had a pleasant stay. The room was really spacious and with even two televisions! We had a shower, a bath-tub and a super fancy (japanese style) toilet. In the room you could find thee, coffee and drinks. There was also a game and some tools for exercises. Our room had a little balcony, with nice views of Ghent. We did appreciate the use of keys instead of cards to enter the room. There is a parking for cars just next to the hotel, and the train station is 15 to 20 min walking. We reached the city center by walking in around 25 to 30 min. But there is also possibility to go with a tram, that stops close by to the hotel.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Carlton, in Ghent. Although an old building, like most in this city, we had an excellent stay. We were warmly greeted by the staff and offered a map and guide of the city. Our room was very spacious with a comfortable bed. There was a fridge, water, coffee/tea maker in our room. This hotel had an amazing breakfast. Each morning we had fresh, organic fruits (8-10 different types). Along with the beautiful pastries and cold cut/cheese, we ordered eggs with bacon, fried cherry tomatoes, potatoes and mini pancakes. €20 for a breakfast buffet AND hot foods from the menu. Highly recommend this boutique hotel in Ghent!

We loved our stay at hotel Carlton. They have a small parking garage or ample street parking. The location is close to the tram for the city or the train station (1.5 blocks) to go to other cities. The breakfast is well worth it and I would recommend a city card as you get to time the tram for free to the city center. The staff was friendly and room was clean. Great place to stay for several days. There are reastuarants and ice cream shops close too if you don't want to head to the city center.

This was my favorite hotel on our trip. Spacious rooms, close to public transit, and their breakfast was fantastic (I’m the kind of person who will trek across a city for a great breakfast but this one was delightful for any restaurant, not just measured against hotels).

Great Hotel for a stay at Ghent. Fantastic location if coming by train or car. Also it serves as a good base for visiting Belgium, given the location. Rooms are with great space, comfortable beds and very clean. Staff is super friendly and helpful as well. I visited with my family and we had a great holiday.

Couldn’t ask for more ! Breakfast was fabulous… room was perfect… staff so helpful ||From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable—friendly staff, quick check-in, and a warm welcome. The room was spotless, beautifully designed, and had all the modern amenities I needed for a comfortable stay.||One of the highlights was the breathtaking view from my balcony, perfect for morning coffee.

Yelp
Our stay at the Hotel Carlton was amazing. The staff and hotel owner was so friendly and warm. The room was spacious and was a nice reprieve from the tiny shoe boxes were experienced in the bigger European cities. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, which proved to be convenient when travelling to other cities. All in all, I would highly recommend a stay at the Hotel Carlton.

Yelp
I came to Ghent on a choir tour with 35 people from a wide variety of backgrounds - from students with little money to older members with successful, lucrative careers. Every single person in my party was impressed with how wonderful Hotel Carlton was. I don't think I have ever stayed in another hotel that was comparable value for money. Their customer service is 5-star from the very moment you email them. Friendly, helpful, prompt replies to emails in perfect English, which is very useful. Brothers Jeffrey and Steven have a trusting yet professional approach to daily business which makes you feel like a part of the family. They gave us excellent recommendations of cool spots to eat out, explore, and go out that were definitely off the beaten path for many tourists. As others have said, the breakfast is delightful, the rooms are incredibly spacious, and the linens and beds soft, clean, and comfortable. The location near the train station is actually great (I'm usually wary of such places) and the tram into the centre of town is cheap and only takes about 5 minutes. I absolutely cannot recommend this hotel enough and all of us in the Orlando Chamber Choir wish them the utmost success.

Yelp
Stayed here and we weren't disappointed... Clean and spacious, both brothers who owned the place are nice and helpful. Thank you Alan and Jeffrey, will definitely go back.

Yelp
We were greeted immediately by a friendly staffer who pulled out a map and showed us all the cool spots to eat and drink. The whole place - the lobby, the breakfast room and the guest room - had a newly-remodeled but cozy feel. I'm guessing this is pretty common, but the double bed was two smaller beds pushed together without a topper. I like the individual comforters though! The in-room amenities were good. There was water and sparkling water for free in the room, along with a tea service. Breakfast was superb. First, they don't force you to pay for the breakfast. It's €12 per day and optional. Second, it was real food. It was mostly based on French cuisine and had lots of hearty options, including eggs cooked to order. Even though this hotel is a bit out of the way from the medieval center, it was a nice walk (2.2km?), and a tram takes you directly there from a block away from the hotel.

Yelp
We spent nearly a week in Gent as part of a month long European Odyssey and were fortunate enough to stumble upon what was not-so-arguably the best place we stayed throughout our trip. This is really saying something too as every place we stayed was quite comfortable. Hotel Carlton is run by three really professional, really hip, and really accommodating brothers - Steven, Jeff, and David - who made our stay an incredible one. These guys would bend over backwards to make sure that every little detail was sparkling. The info they shared with us was the real inside scoop as to what life in Gent is really all about. The Breakfast was outstanding. The rooms are modern, hip, and sleek in both design as well as function and the overall vibe of the place was exemplary.. The general feeling among the other guests we got to chatting with was just as positive as our own. This place got our Eurotrip off to a great start! Gent is lovely, our accommodations were excellent, and while traveling with Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Munich, and Berlin still to come we nonetheless caught ourselves saying "wasnt Gent great?". Indeed it was and where we stayed played a significant role in our great experience. 5 stars all day...

Yelp
My wife and I just returned from a two week 25th anniversary celebration, starting in Paris, then Amsterdam, finishing up in Ghent. The Carlton Hotel, for slightly more money than our hotels in the (admittedly pricier) other cities was way beyond our expectations in terms of hospitality. Judging by their room photos, I expected the rooms to be comfortable enough. But our double room was much more spacious than imagined, which was greatly appreciated after squeezing around our tiny Paris hotel room. But the biggest pleasant surprise was the warm hospitable staff. I wish I had noted his name, but the young tall slim fellow at the reception desk was incredibly nice and helpful. When we arrived, he was busy giving helpful advice to another guest, taking around 15 minutes before getting to us. My cynical NY mind was thinking this must be a friend of his. No hotel would "waste" this much time on a guest. But when finished, he greeted us, asking if he could help us. I told him we had reservations and we proceeded to the desk. As others here have reported, he asked us if it was our first visit to Ghent, which it was, and then he took out a handful of maps and pamphlets and marked up the map with the tram route/stops, tourist trap restaurant areas to avoid, the spot where a free walking tour takes place, etc. Wow! I had all intentions of asking for information at the desk, but never expected the hotel to initiate the conversation. Fantastic experience. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this lovely place by accident while on a business trip. The Hotel is quite comfortable and has lovely rooms. They are quite big therefore you feel at ease in a new town. The decor was pleasing too with great service and a personal interest shown by the owners. The three brothers were very helpful and made our stay enjoyable. The breakfast was one of the best I have had. It was so good that I looked forward to waking up early for that despite the tiredness. I would recommend this to anyone who happens to go to Gent and is looking for that comfort. Very close to the train station, it just make your travels that much shorter!!
