I stayed at the Hotel Carmichael over two weeks and I had a fantastic experience. The hotel itself is impressive; it was obviously constructed fairly recently, but they did a great job designing it to have the grandeur of a traditional great hotel. I loved the chandeliers, touches of gilding, and soft colors throughout the entire hotel. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed, with everything you could need. Everything was comfortable and worked the way it needed to. The one concern during my stay occurred when one evening, I exited the elevator on my floor and I was overwhelmed by the smell of smoke. The smell continued even into my room. I contacted the front desk and asked if they were aware of the smell, as I thought something was on fire. They said it was coming from the wood burning fireplace in the lobby. While I appreciate the ambient effect in theory, having a wood burning fireplace in a hotel is not a great idea. Those of us who suffer from respiratory conditions can be affected by this strong smoke. I feel a gas burning fireplace could have the same ambience but would cause much less smell and smoke in the air. However, the staff was very quick and accommodating in allowing me to switch rooms to a higher floor where the smoke did not reach. The restaurant onsite was consistently good, and the location is great with many other food options close by. Parking got fairly congested at night. There is a small lot in front of the hotel which leads down to a garage, but the majority of the garage is occupied by reserved spots.
