This is a great location, very central and walkable. Also 12pm checkout is lovely. However, for the price I thought the rooms would be nicer. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. The pillows were also bad. There was no coffee machine only hot water and instant coffee. There wasn’t much space in the room. We were right opposite the elevator as well so it was pretty noisy. Also the tv had Portuguese sub titles that were not removable or changeable to a different language. Not many channels, and the guide was not accessible either so we had to click through and wait for commercials to be done in order to know what was playing on each channel. The hotel outside the room was very nice and had a bar and restaurant as well as nice lounge areas but we wanted to explore Porto so most of our time at the hotel was spent in the room which wasn’t great.

Great location but rooms are dated. Shower does not have enough water pressure. No shower door so you’re shivering cold while showering. Bed is very soft, you can ever hear the spring - could not fall asleep. Pillows are also horrible and flat. I would not recommend this hotel. At this price you can find something better. Also the male staff at the front desk was not friendly and they do not accommodate any early check ins.

Wonderful location and superior staff. Rooms were roomy and had plenty of space for luggage. Bathrooms were also nice size. It was tricky getting to our room, but after we made the trip a couple of times we figured it out. There is NO parking for this hotel, and if I come back again I will not rent a car. Parking is super expensive in Porto. Bar staff was exceptional and there is a cool Irish Pub right across the street. We did not have breakfast, opted to try small cafes up the street. ||I would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at Hotel Carrís Porto Ribeira from 20–24 September (room 130), having stayed here a few years ago and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this return visit was very disappointing.|The hotel is in a fantastic location, and the building itself is full of character. Staff at reception were friendly in manner. However, these positives were outweighed by serious shortcomings in both maintenance and service.|Room condition: The room felt outdated and poorly maintained. The shower door was stiff, unstable, and difficult to open when wet — I reported this twice, but no one attended. The hot water in the mornings lasted less than a minute before turning lukewarm, making showers uncomfortable. The bathroom doorstop was broken with a protruding screw, and the corridor mirror was cracked.|Cleanliness: On the final day, I discovered the mattress had no protector and was badly stained. This was the most disappointing discovery, especially for a hotel advertising itself as four-star superior at €200 per night.|Housekeeping: Service was consistently late (often around 5pm). Despite requests for earlier cleaning, this was not accommodated in any meaningful way. Returning from a long day out to an unserviced room was frustrating.|Restaurant: Signage and menus throughout the hotel advertised the restaurant as “open daily,” but on Sunday evening it was closed with no notice given. This caused unnecessary inconvenience.|Wi-Fi: Connection dropped frequently, requiring daily log-ins.|Overall, the hotel did not live up to the standards I experienced on my previous stay or those it advertises. At this price point, I expected much better maintenance, hygiene, and responsiveness to guest concerns. While the location is excellent, I cannot recommend this hotel until significant improvements are made.

We spent a long weekend at the Oca Ribiera in September. It’s perfectly placed for the waterfront, which is a very very busy area! We had a corner room with two lovely French windows overlooking the river. The rooms are a little dated, but clean and big enough for two people on a short break. We didn’t have the breakfast as we preferred to go out. |No kettle in the room which is a shame. Rooms cleaned every day. Noisy in evening but it’s quite by 11 so no problem. Staff nice and helpful. Would recommend this hotel.

The best thing about it is that the rooms are spacious. Unfortunately they are poorly designed, with everything in the wrong place. Who would use a set of hanging hooks 6 inches from the ceiling? Why would you put the dressing table where it is only accessible from one side of the bed? Why would you hang toilet roll right behind the toilet bowl where the person who needs it can neither see nor reach it? I get that their location requires mezzanine floors, but why have only one lift to serve each set of rooms? (Which moreover is highly idiosyncratic in its operation.) You can use the stairs but they are dangerous and poorly lit. As for finding the restaurant... Don't waste your time trying to ring Reception when the chambermaid forgets your towels because that button doesn't work. Don't order pizza in the bar - worst I've ever tasted. And don't expect a good nights sleep - the location is extremely noisy, with motorbikes racing up the hill at all hours. In short, not recommended.

Our experience was entirely positive. The location was perfect for visit being in the heart of Ribeira. The facilities fully met our expectations- with a comfortable room and bed and an excellent shower. The breakfasts were first class with a good range of dishes available. And importantly, the staff were always helpful from check-in through to respinding to the various small requests we had during our 3 night stay.

Google
Great location. Hotel is a bit dated, but acceptable. The biggest issue is check in is not until 3:00PM and the staff will not even consider seeing if a room is available before then. At 3:00 everyone lines up to check in and that takes forever. Even at that our room wasn't ready for another 45 minutes. Only person on the staff that was friendly and accommodating was Anna.

Yelp
The remodel Hotel is a fascinating mixture of old stone structures with creative new designs. The service was professional and helpful, but not attentive. We loved the area has a good stay at the Hotel with friends.

Yelp
In early May, I arrived early at the Hotel Carris in Porto. Employees offered to hold my luggage until check in time. Upon my return to the hotel a few hours later, I found that one of my bags had been stolen from behind the reception counter. Even to this date, the hotel has not offered compensation of any kind despite the fact that my luggage had been fully in their possession with the understanding that my items in their safekeeping. I have reached out to management who have shown no response, which I find completely unacceptable. Will not be using this hotel again and would recommend to others to find other accommodations in Porto.

Yelp
The room was very very small. River view but couldn't see the River. Bugs all over the bathroom. Water in shower doesn't get hot. To make matters worse, the service at the front desk was horrific; no customer service skills, no positive attitude, no sense of feeling welcome. Purely transactional. I would never come back here.

Yelp
Had a very nice stay here. Hotel was modern and clean. Staff was helpful and the location is in easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, tour buses etc. we didn't dine in the restaurant but did meet friends for a drink of port at the bar. I would stay here again.

Yelp
This is my first bad review that I have ever written. I walked into the Hotel Carris and the service especially snotty by the front desk agent Daniela who treated me like I was the scum on the universe. She clearly does not enjoy being around people which is a terrible first impression to guests walking in. At first she did not acknowledge the fact that I was even there- which is fine however, there was no one there-- and again her job is to greet people who checking in. After sitting here awkwardly for a couple of minutes I was like I know it is a little early to check in and In which she snapped at me that my room was not ready. Which was totally fine. I do not care if I can check in-- I can wander around the town as the hotel is in a central location, grab lunch, anything. Then when I went to check in I passed her my credit card and instead of passing me my credit card when I booked the room in my name, she passed my receipt to my younger sister to sign knowing she was not the person listed on either the room or the credit card. To make matters worse-- -She directed me with completely wrong directions to my room -Made it a point to tell me how to connect to the wifi in the hotel, and when I got to the room the service in the room does not have the ability to connect to wifi. -and the room that I was checked into was not the room I paid for-- I am in a dungeon when I paid for a river view room -I called to speak to the manager as I felt like I was being treated unfairly and in a manner that did not reflect the reviews I read when booking this hotel, andshe answered and at that point I did not want to speak to her to have her help resolve the issue but she refused to allow me to speak to a manager Its like it is some sick joke for her to play control game in her petty front desk role. After traveling to over 30 hotels this year with nothing but pleasant reviews I have never encountered as terrible service as I have had with Daniela. Until they replace her please do not stay there, it is nothing but a terrible first impression for what could be a wonderful lodging experience-- Porto is a wonderful city.

Yelp
Arrived here after staying in a 5 star hotel in Lisbon Boy, what a difference Great location. Interesting lobby. Mixture of old and new, however that is where the interest ends The rooms are TERRIBLE When I expressed my disappointment and asked for a different room I was advised that this is the best that they could do!! Not acceptable! We were in a group that had booked this hotel over a year ago, so beware Once they have your money they have you and couldn't care less. This place deserves 2 stars at best Location is great however there ate better choices

Yelp
Great location, one block from river, close to bars, wine, food, touristy gifts. Topically a sleek modern esthetic with nice lobby and bar area. Free wi-fi! The restaurant is on floor -3. Wi-fi is unavailable on this level. Walls are thin; can hear guests shower in their rooms when passing through the hallway. Slow single elevator. Beds are TERRIBLE! Hard mattresses and limited pillows and dirty throw pillows. Think they reuse/refill the toiletries (the shampoo bottle was sticky with soap). No washcloths. Had to use the handheld shower nozzle as the button to convert to overhead head was unscrewed and wouldn't work. This place is loud. If you have a room on the street side you will be up all night listening to the bass from the nearby clubs. Porto is great. This place is not.

Yelp
Great hotel with an awesome location in Porto. Located just steps from the Ribiera - water, restaurant, bars, etc. Very central location to Porto activities as well. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. Our room was quite spacious and comfortable. Would definitely recommend this hotel if staying in Porto! Also breakfast is not included and is quite pricey, but we enjoyed exploring local cafes instead :)

Yelp
If you want a great location packed with tourists tour busses and zero appeal I recommend. It's so busy, there is a wait for breakfast which is in the bottom floor. Elevators can barely handle the guests. Today our room was never cleaned. The desk people were friendly and handled a ton of people all asking questions etc. get an air B&B and get out of the enormous numbers of tourists.

Yelp
This location is perfect for Porto. Easy to get wherever you are going. I'd give the service 5 stars because of how helpful everyone is. Breakfast is good but not cheap. 4 stars there. Room is 4 stars, but certainly more than adequate. If I could give the hotel an overall rating of 4.5 stars I would.
