First, I want to say how beautiful of an impact this business is having on their community. The business owner uses the money to help support community members through loans, which is amazing. By far, my favorite thing about Casa de Dan is the people - they were so friendly and warm. Another wonderful aspect of this hotel is how gorgeous the grounds are. They are well-maintained and lush. The rooms are like little apartments, which are very spacious and have kitchens, fridges, filtered water, and patios with hammocks. The pool is wonderful and long, and would be great for someone who wants to swim laps. Lastly, I really liked the location and the close access to both the beach and many great restaurants (including Dan’s Cafe!).
However, there are three reasons for my three stars.
1. I stayed in apartment 11, which does not have air conditioning. The fans provided were old and quite dirty, containing lots of dust. As a result, my partner and I were very uncomfortably hot and coughing quite a bit.
2. The room had a lot of bugs, including large ants, spiders, geikos, and even a bat. Although I understand some bugs are to be expected, this was a bit too much for our comfort, especially the bat.
3. The internet was very very poor, and did not seem to consistently reach our room. We could not use it for minor tasks, such as messaging.
I believe that many of our concerns would be alleviated by staying in one of the nicer 1 bedroom with view and AC offerings, and I would be happy to return to try one of those rooms.
