Excellent, very picturesque, comfortable, clean and family friendly hotel. The location is very convenient just a two blocks of the main square. Even when is near the centre is quiet so you can have a good sleep. Lots of places to eat nearby and the one downstairs Bistrola 57 offers great yucatecan food. The pool space is great to have a fresh swim after a warm day exploring Merida. The courtyard in the middle is a very pleasant space to have a coffee, use the internet or relax listening to some live music. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 16 days , recently.|Typically I think most guests don’t stay that long but we chose it as a jumping off point to explore the Yucatán area. |5 star location for sure !|There are so many things to do within 3 blocks including museums , restaurants, shops, park areas with live entertainment, just fantastic!|One of the major complaints we had was the noise both in our room and while sitting on balcony or pool area . Keep in mind this is a large city so you can hear traffic , music from clubs and parks plus constant noise from huge AC unit from Holiday Inn across street , lower floors are less affected by this . The hotel has a charming aesthetic but is dated and needs some attention in certain areas . The elevator is ancient but reliable and charming. |The rooms are clean and housekeepers were very accommodating with any requests. Bottled water is left in your room daily and a small fridge is handy to keep things cool , although freezer didn’t work and ice is not available at hotel but attached restaurant will give you small amount for cost . No coffee in rooms but a decent cup is available at Marago ( across street) or Pops, around the corner . We had no problem with hot water or shower pressure, although bathroom fixtures and toilets need upgraded, not great at flushing with wobbly seats. We moved from our deluxe double room , because of leak from bathroom ceiling, to basic double and it is significantly smaller , with less storage for clothing . The pool is a lovely area to sit with chaise lounges but water is topped up daily and absolutely freezing .. in 16 days I saw 4 people use it. I would recommend for short stays.

Positive: Great location. Overall, the staff is very friendly. Negative: Our room, number 202, had no a/c and no window that would open. When we told them they gave us a fan, but we?re reluctant to give us another room. I live in the desert and i am used to the heat, but i was not able to sleep it was so hot.

Excellent location. Room was comfortable and we slept good for two nights. Room had everything you needed. Shower had plenty or hot water and had complementary soap & shampoo. Lobby was clean and inviting. Staff was kind. Would stay again. Restaurant/bar was great!

The hotel could be charming, but it’s old and poorly maintained. It has a strong waxy smell (and you can’t open the windows) and a musty odor. The elevators are extremely outdated, and we didn’t feel safe using them. The first room we were given was dirty and very small for three people. They moved us to a different room for the next two nights, which was better, but still, it’s overpriced for what it offers. They had placed a duvet on the mattresses (perhaps to make them feel softer), but it only made us sweat more than anything else. Given the condition of the hotel, we didn’t feel comfortable using the pool. The only positives were its location and the friendly staff. However, in that area, there are many newer hotels available for the same price.

Hotel has potential but is quite dated and needs maintenance and upgrades to justify the price. The pool area and two other nooks are pleasant. The staff are good and the restaurant is very good. Basically overpriced for what you get.

The store attendants at the clothing store attached to Casa del Balam overcharged me for a blouse. I thought the item was marked $700 pesos but they charged me $4000 pesos. When I went back to the store to return the blouse and ask for a refund they told me they couldn't reverse the charge and I should challenge it through my credit card company. I went back to the store the next day and there was a different clerk working. I told him what happened and he told me the blouse should only have been $600 pesos. At that price I wanted the blouse and repurchased it for cash this time. I have been in the process of challenging the charge for two months and each time the merchant claims it is a legitimate charge and my challenge is denied. Make sure you understand what the price is on the items at this store. They are not marked and therefore they can say anything and change the prices at any time.

Yelp
Stayed here based on what was posted on Expedia. Appearance it's old. The entrance you think oh this could be cool, but no. The rooms have broken furniture. The beds are run down. No fitted sheet just a thin bed sheet given which I think it's due to the weather or ac system. The other thin sheet to cover. 4 pillows but they don't even fit the bed it just looks unappealing. We had a king and the pillows were standard. They provide a small fridge but it was in the ground. The AC is a split mini system which a lot of hotels have but it takes a bit to cool I think for two reasons the doors are not completely sealed, small gaps and hit weather. My husband had to mess with it which saved us because it was blowing go the ceiling the blade was stuck. Bathroom. Old there is little water pressure in the sink. No hand/small body towels at all, hotel does not carry them. Faded fixtures. No conditioner. Towels are old and clean but stained with small snags. The tub floor feels like it could crack, bouncy almost. Restrooms are stuffy since there is no AC in there. Pool is small not too bad for a quick dip. No pool towels. Lots of leafs. Elevators are old. I believe they may be from the 70's from the system. Small and stuffy no AC and can be tricky to know if it's ready. Location is a plus. From looking and asking everything seems to be in walking distance.

Yelp
The air conditioner is not adjustable and it does not cool the room. They continue to claim they have air conditioner issues and that they are working on them, the post a month ago has the same problem. The keys are not electronic and the phones in the room doesn't work. The room does have a refrigerator. Beds are decent..... I will never stay here again.

Yelp
0 stars. Had made the reservation a month in advance - when reached the hotel about 11 pm, they told me there were sold out !!! They SOLD my rooms and left me stranded with family late in the night. No manager or owner- only 1 front office staff with ZERO help. Lucky to find a room across at the holiday inn. I can only recommend everyone to stay away from this hotel !

Yelp
Excellent hotel, friendly attentive service. I recommend upgrading your room to their largest rooms. They are spacious and well appointed with plenty of towels and clean linens. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Hotel Casa del Balam was our home for the first week of our trip to the Yucatan. I say "home" because we really felt comfortable there. The rooms were perfect and of course the air conditioning was splendid and necessary in the summer! The hotel was walking distance to all the sites and restaurants in central Merida which was great because we were a group of 10 people! Every morning we had the same waiter who encouraged us to order in Spanish. We practiced our ordering skills so much that we tried to order Spanish for the rest of our trip. The ambience at the hotel is warm and inviting with the open air dining and swimming pool. I would definitely recommend Hotel Casa del Balam to anyone travelling to Merida, Mexico.
