This is a fantastic hotel to stay in. The location is perfect for the lovely beach, great restaurants, numerous coffee houses/bakeries and supermarkets. The staff at this hotel were excellent. They were very helpful, friendly, warm and funny. We really enjoyed chatting to them whenever the opportunity presented itself. The hotel is very clean and spacious. We stayed in room 15 on the top floor of this two storey building. The room was perfect with a good sized room, nice sized bathroom, good shower, very comfortable bed, air conditioning and a fridge. There were two chairs and a coffee table just outside the room where you could sit and relax or you can go to the courtyard which has a jacuzzi and places to sit. The breakfast area is open air with plenty of room. We were served a plate of fresh fruit, juice, coffee and you can choose from three different breakfasts which are really well cooked and very tasty. We loved Samara, a pretty little town with a beautiful beach. This hotel made our stay that bit more special and we will definitely stay there again when we can get back to this lovely location. We thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay there. The hosts were really nice to us and had good tips for Sámara and for our ongoing trip. The rooms with private bathroom are big, clean and for us there were nothing to critizise. The breakfast is also very good, starts with a plate of fruits and then you can choose between three options for e.g eggs. So we can really recommend this place.|PS: I know there are a couple of rules, but I think this is normal for all hotels in Costa Rica and for us this was no problem at all (because we saw it in other comments and we cannot share the bad experiences written there).|PSS - for our hosts a recommendation ;). I know it is hard if people writing unfair recommendations, but maybe you should answer them in a bit more "Pura-Vida"-Style, because some answers sound very rude. So respirar antes y después responder, vale :)?

So 1 star: because the first day of our stay were actually really good! Nice location, pretty place. Good for kids, little pool. Plenty of food options around the hotel. Unfortunately, due the very bad customer service the last morning, soured the experience a bit.😣 We were a group of 11 young people ages 12-22. Non smokers or drinkers looking for a quiet place to enjoy the beach. Breakfast was not nearly enough🤷 you have to pay extra if you want to repeat. We waited over an hour for breakfast. When I told the managers they told me that we should find a better beach ( Side note: location is beautiful, beach sunrises are gorgeous, and just across the street🤩 I've stayed at this beach before and always had great experiences) it was not a young people place, and should party elsewhere. Also that if she had known we were young they would have refused service 😣🙎 When one of us put a less than stellar review management showed up extremely angry at the hotel room yelling at us to get out if we didn't like their place. (It was non refundable) In the morning, the maid put one less towel, when we checked out they started complaining about it and insinuating we had lost it. Beautiful place with Poor Customer Service equaled Unpleasant Experience😔

Excellent accommodation and a laid-back, mostly quiet hotel. The Frech couple that run the Hotel are very helpful. The 3 breakfast choices are perfect - we preferred the "tipico". It's a short walk across the street to the beach, a short walk to the supermarket and a short walk to good, reasonable restaurants/

Me and my friends went to Sámara to spend a few days at the beach. Unfortunately we only read the obligatory 3 top comments about Casa Del Mar. When we arrived, the two ladys at the reception did not even welcome us warmly - instead they told us about all the rules in the Hostel for about 10 minutes. In my opinion, rules are ok but to be mad at us only because we were walking in the pool and did not just lay there was too much. ( we were the only guests that day). The behaviour of the two ladys was very unprofessional. I went down to the reception to critizise that the room did not get cleaned during our stay although we arranged a cleaning service for every day. The ladys always have an excuse for the bad service. You can also see that when you read the answers of Casa Del Mar. In this case she told me that me and my friends left “dirty and untouchable underwear” on the beds so they weren’t able to clean or even give new towels. That was not true, we just had three big bags on the ground and a pyjama laying on the bed. ||It Doesn’t matter what you critizise - they turn the conversation into you being the dumb that doesn‘t follow their rules. ||Instead of trying to make the stay as good as possible they weren‘t even able to admit their mistakes. Sometimes, they didn‘t even answer me!||Another aspect that is necessary to mention are the surveillance cameras all around the hotel. I know that it is really common to have some but to watch them all day and warn you that you are watched all the time makes you feel very uncomfortable. I did not go there because I like to be observed by two ladys all the time. They should rather concentrate on their communication skills…||On booking.com the Hostel offers a jacuzzi which actually was nice and clean but not useable during our stay because of some pills that blocked the pool for a whole day. Other hostels do this routine at night so the guests can enjoy the jacuzzi during the day.||All in all the two receptionists didn’t want us to have a nice trip although the place and the rooms were nice. Unfortunately that could not compense the bad service we received.||||I hope you read this comment and decide to visit a different hostel - NOT CASA DEL MAR! I’m also excited to the answer of the hostel and hope that they won’t call me a lier o pretend that I’m a fake account, as you can see in the foregone answers.

These ladies should not be in he hospitality biz. They’re rude. I arrived with a guitar and was immediately told I couldn’t play outside. No problem. The lady went on to explain how I was to behave. I’m 60 years old. My friend came to visit at 2:30pm and was not allowed on the property accompanying me. The rude lady enjoyed enforcing this senseless rule. I was loading up my car prior to checking out and the ladies are freaking out asking me for the key (I was not done loading my car) and yelling they were calling the police. The ladies are angry! I read other reviews with people having customer service issues. The any ladies should hire professionals to run the reception. This simple hotel would be much better off without the angry, rude, judgmental and disrespectful ladies at reception. Keep in mind, I’ve stayed at hotels/b&b etc for over 40 years. First bad encounter and felt the need to write this review.

My review of Hotel Casa del Mar on Airbnb… Pros: Great location… close to beach, downtown, restaurants. Walk to everything. Nice, cool plunge pool. Good adherence to COVID protocols. Security guard posted at front entrance in the evening. Valerie was helpful and nice to us. Didn’t really interact with anyone else. Our room had a/c and a private bathroom. Nice foliage and trees in the courtyard and surrounding area. Cooked breakfast with a nice fruit plate. There is a small menu. Wifi is good. Bed was comfortable and the property was quiet. We had a good sleep. Cons: Property and rooms could use some updating and lots of TLC. Room was basic. No view. Breakfast was basic (eg. Not real bacon). There is no TV, which is generally not a problem, but sometimes it is important to keep up with world events. Some of the other rooms don’t have a/c and/or private bathrooms, so I expect that might attract a younger crowd looking for cheaper accommodations and perhaps that could cause some of the problems reported by others. We are a couple in our mid-seventies and did not experience any problems at this hotel. All things considered, we were happy to stay there for a couple of nights. — Hotel Casa del Mar Response: Thank you for your comment. For your information, the property is very well maintained, repainted every 6 months as are the rooms. You wouldn't have any problems and therefore no ants and cockroaches if you had accepted the cleaning of your room on a daily basis when we asked you to. You refused it, it's your decision. Also if we ask that all the food be placed in the mini fridge, it's not for nothing..... It is the same with the sugary drinks mixed with alcohol that you consumed all day. We would like to tell you again, that if you hadn't put half the roll of toilet paper in the toilet, it wouldn't have clogged. It is the same everywhere in Costa Rica. Finally, we are not intended to compete with a resort, we are a beach B&B and our prices are accordingly. Not very sympathetic to bashing people on a budget. — My comments on the hotel response: This is the most dishonest, nasty response I have ever experienced on the internet! Her review of us: . (Yes, a period! Clearly done so she wouldn’t risk making a comment that might contradict her nasty, lying response to our review of the hotel. Incidentally, as you can see, our review was mostly favourable.). There is no way to respond to this on Airbnb.

Honestly, just see their responses to any negative feedback and you'll see what they are like as humans. My review on Booking.com Even though I've stayed here before, the host decided straight away she was going to act hostile. We considered moving to another hotel but we had plans that didn't make it feasible. Definitely should have.... Now I was with my family of six people and the stay included breakfast. My family went to breakfast in the morning and were told breakfast was not included. As I made the booking, I confirmed with the lady, and she basically said my family was lying, and made a story that my father was asking if they could eat somewhere 🤷‍♂️. The other very vindictive, unpleasant, woman then came out of the office and started trying to intimidate us and telling us our attitude was horrible from the start. She then told us we had to leave and that we would receive a refund. This is the middle of the busy season when everything is booked out. When we questioned the timing of her request, being the busy period, she proceeded to call the police. The police arrived and let us know that they have had to visit this location on multiple occasions. This is literally how these terrible people treat their customers. We asked the police to confirm a refund would be given if we left, then of course they have not refunded and booking.com will not issue a refund on a "non-refundable" booking. It was so appalling we left up the road to a place that charged double, but it was worth not being near these people. On top of that, while we were waiting and dealing with the police, another older Canadian couple who were watching came down. They expressed that they were also given an appalling experience from these vindictive disgusting people who shouldn't be allowed in hospitality. Now, we've stayed in hundreds of hotels, and we've never had such an appalling experience. Right at the end, we expressed how disgusted we were on the way out...
