I don’t usually write any reviews but this time I had to even though I couldn’t stay at this beautiful looking Hotel. As a hotel professional myself, I know cancellations hurt a business — which is why from the very start I was willing to pay a cancellation fee when my family and I sadly had to cancel due to a car breakdown. I made this clear in writing. What I did not expect was the shocking way management handled it. Marta, the director, kept switching between English and Spanish (sometimes even mixing both in the same email) despite the fact that our entire communication had been in English from the very beginning. Instead of empathy or professionalism, I received hostile and disrespectful messages — including one that ended with: “I hope that life will give you back what you are sowing.” How in the world could I had cancel my reservation days before if it was due to a car breakdown hours before checking in. This last email is just unreal. This goes far beyond enforcing a cancellation policy. It shows a complete lack of respect, courtesy, and basic professionalism from a hotel director. Because of this tone and behavior, my husband and I decided not to proceed with the payment we had originally been ready to make. Hospitality is about people, not just rules. The way guests are treated in difficult situations defines a hotel’s true values — and here, the treatment was unacceptable. Screenshots of the email exchange speak for themselves.

We stayed here August 2022 as an LGBTQ couple, and I would say everything in this place is excellent! <3 The staff are so friendly, helpful, and hospitable. They have a great swimming pool overlooking the mountain ranges, and a superb breakfast buffet where you can eat excellent vegetarian friendly food. The best parts were: 1. The customer-centric services from the staff 2. The location of the hotel 3. The rooms with windows and air-conditioning units 4. They left us a candle with rose petals on our 2nd night I highly recommend this place :-)

This place was absolutely fantastic. After encountering some mis-matches on reviews vs. our impressions at various accommodations in Europe, our family of four walked into this friendly, clean, modern, well-appointed hotel and it was glorious. They were so friendly and even just gave us the code to get in when we were arriving late. We slept so darn well, and enjoyed every moment we were there.||||It's a little hard to find: that's part of its charm as being a modern hotel in the middle of this ancient town. You can walk to all of beautiful Besalu, or over the bridge, and there are a nice little mix of shops and restaurants all a little saunter away. The hotel itself is right at the center of the architecture. A two day stay was maybe enough to see everything, but I could have stayed a week and still enjoyed the view and comfort.||||We stayed in the family apartment on the top floor. It is spacious, awesome view, and has two very comfortable rooms and a long lounge type area to spread out into or to hang out while others are sleeping, as well as balcony. Seriously, if you are two adults and two kids, it's phenomenal.||||The breakfast buffet in the mornings was fantastic, and there's even an honor bar where you can go grab a beer at off hours.||||With the exception of the pool being too cold to swim in in June, and the long stairs to the apartment (which we didn't mind), I can't think of a single thing to warn people about. The people who run this place have put together something special. If you are traveling with a family (of four), I can't recommend the hotel (and the family apartment) enough.

Style over substance. This hotel has been extensively renovated and is relatively new. The rooms, (we chose a suite) are cold and lack any character. The bathroom we as a prefabricated box in the main space. It felt very functional similar to an Ibis hotel in France. Breakfast was average. The weekend receptionist lacked any customer service skills. Despite previous poor reviews of the restaurant we enjoyed our meal there. Overall ok for 1 or 2 nights only.

We arrived in Spain (Barcelona) mid day and drove northwest to Besalu for our first few nights in Spain (on our way to Marseilles). Casa Marcial is on a quiet street in the heart of the walled city of Besalu. The room was spacious, very clean, with a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. We had a charming view through French doors across the rooftops of Besalu. Breakfast was delicious and varied. There was an elevator which we appreciated as we were very tired from the flight and travel with too much luggage! The only word of advice, if you are driving your own car, please talk with the hotel prior to arrival as to where you should park and how to get to the front door of the hotel. The GPS was quite confused as to what streets were drivable or not. But it's worth the effort. An enchanting village.

First trip to Spain and wanted to stay in a small village after Barcelona. We had planned to stay only 2 nights but like it so much we canceled our other hotel plans for another village and stayed 2 more nights. This hotel is immaculate, very clean and well run. There is lots of room outdoors with tables and chairs and a small pool that overlooks the village. The village itself is very small and we only found one restaurant that was open. There were a couple of others but they looked like they were for drinks. There are a couple of small grocery stores so we got picnic food some nights. it is about 30+ minutes from a couple of other small village and about 1.5 hours from the coast. There are some gift shops open during the day and closed in the evening. We wanted something quiet and restful and we got it.
