Firstly, I never actually managed to stay here. I was booked into Casa Mexicana as part of a group for 2 nights on 15 & 16 November. On arrival in San Cristobal on 15 November, the group was informed that we were now staying at another hotel, apparently of a similar standard of hotel to Casa Mexicana. This other hotel was rather disappointing: no bar or restaurant ( we had a 10 minute walk to another hotel for breakfast where we had to hand over our breakfast ticket and were told the buffet breakfast was only for 'guests' not us). In our room we had no hairdryer, no bath mat, no hand towels, no shower toiletries, no safety deposit box. The sink was located in the bedroom, not ideal when sharing a room. Our room was above reception so we heard all the noise and the fabric and layout of the reception/entrance area meant all the noise and sounds continually echoed and reverberated throughout the hotel. For example we heard people talking late at night in the lobby; doorbell ringing late at night; people leaving early in the morning; telephone in reception ringing early in the morning and a guest's dog barking and whining at 04.00am. On the plus side, our beds were very comfortable. Casa Mexicana did provide a complimentary buffet lunch for us but I feel that this was completely insufficient compensation for being suddenly moved from our booked accomodation without apology or explanation. What was actually even worse was to find out that we should have been staying at the hotel where we had our breakfast but Casa Mexican had moved us from that one as well! It felt like we were downgraded and ended up in much less pleasant and less favourable hotel accomodation.

I don’t usually leave reviews on anything unless it’s great. This place is overpriced. They had the nastiest attitude when we asked someone where we could get coffee in the morning. Door mechanism is actually kinda loud. They repeatedly replaced only two of our three towels. Upon checkout they insisted we had taken a hanger with us and charged us for it. Save your money, there’s a “fancy, comfortable” facade on the exterior but it’s pretty mid. I’d say the only perk was proximity to everything. Plenty of other nearby homier places to support though.

Casa Mexicana is a beautiful colonial town house located in the Centro Histórico, two blocks from the Cathedral.|After a friendly welcome we were shown to our room on the first floor. The room’s furnishings looked tired and much was in need of redecoration. Several of the electric sockets didn’t work and the window faced the inner courtyard. The sill was low and was a potential hazard if opened at night. The bed was comfortable but duvet very worn and lumpy. The room (No 16) was just above reception and had no insulation; we heard every word from people talking around reception or in the corridors outside. After our first (of four nights) the reception staff offered us an alternative room but it didn’t seem much of an improvement.|Breakfast on three mornings was a buffet with a good choice. However if a large tour party ate early, eggs and other items were never replenished afterwards and allowed to stand around getting cold and dry. Our last day there was a delicious a la carte breakfast.|Despite the shortcomings the staff were all charming and helpful and the hotel’s location is a big plus.

We enjoyed our stay here overall. The hotel has a slightly quirky vibe, but nothing that should deter travellers who know what to expect in Mexico. As has been pointed out, the wifi is not brilliant, but the room was comfortable (the bed particularly), and set back from the road so we were not disturbed by noise. Staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed dinner one night, though the menu is limited. Breakfast was a mixed picture - one morning we were crowded out by a large tour, and the experience was stressful, with buffet supplies constantly running out. On the following mornings, things were much calmer and the staff had time to be helpful. The location is central, and most things are an easy walk away in this attractive town. Reception staff very helpful and willing. Worth investigating.

This hotel is nicely located for all of the main sights of the city. The staff were pleasant, the house keeping staff were very friendly and cheerful. Everything was very clean and breakfast was very nice. The bathroom had nowhere for you to put anything, a shelf would have been useful, the room was adequate however the noise was too much, we were woken very early each morning by guests leaving, the walls are so thin it was as though they were in the room with us. We didn't sleep well here, it is probably fine for one night but for multiple nights it becomes a struggle.

Casa Mexicana is ideally located in a charming traditional colonial house, right in the heart of San Cristobal de las Casas, a Pueblo Mágico. Its location makes it perfect for exploring the city’s vibrant andadores (pedestrian streets). The hotel spans two spacious buildings, with décor that’s not only Instagram-worthy but also harmoniously reflects the rich cultural heritage of Chiapas. It’s an excellent choice whether you’re traveling with family or as a couple. The hotel is impeccably clean and well-maintained, and the value for money is outstanding given the quality and character of the property. While Casa Mexicana features an on-site restaurant, we didn’t get the chance to dine there. Nonetheless, I would absolutely return for another stay.

Very nice hotel! The value is amazing. The rooms are quiet and very clean, shower is perfect with good hot water and pressure. Great mattresses and linen. Excellent service from the staff, and the patio is beautiful. My only stop when I come back to San Cristóbal!

Stayed here for 2 nights and no wifi for the entire time, we complained that we couldn't connect and were told it was being looked into and would be fixed but it never was. The rooms were unpleasantly dark and the bathroom look like it was put together by a child. The floors were not only uneven but the tiles were a trip hazard in the shower as they were so uneven. While we are on the topic of tiles, most were a dark greeny brown colour except for the random red tiles that look like they put in when the others broke and they couldn't colour match it so didn't even try. The bathrooms look like they have been extended (poorly) or modified several times as nothing is square, nothing is level and had 2 tiny lights above the sink to light the entire bathroom. The breakfast was poor and the staff not overly friendly. I would not stay here again.
