Staying here was one of our holiday highlights! I couldn’t decide where to stay in Holbox as there is so much choice and price ranges but this hotel was excellent and exceeded our expectations.||Firstly the location is great - right on a beautiful part of beach, lovely sand and water. it was a 15 mins walk along the beach to town. we would walk into town for dinner and get a taxi back. Taxi was always $150. ||There is a lovely hotel beach bar where we would have breakfast, lunch and cocktails. The food is excellent. ||The room was extremely comfortable and spacious. Great shower. ||Lovely hotel pool too if you didn’t want to swim in the sea. You can’t lay out by the pool but this doesn’t matter as there are very comfortable beds on the hotel beach front which is a few steps away. ||We had 3 nights here and completely relaxed and switched off, after a busy 12 night tour of the Yucutan Peninsula. I highly recommend this hotel.

We loved our week long stay at Palapas Del Sol. We had Room #5 which was very large with a very large balcony that overlooked the pool, sandy area by the bar and across to the ocean. The bed was super comfy, the room was kept very clean, we always had fresh towels (both for the bathroom and the beach/pool), and our mini fridge was restocked daily with soda, water, and beer.|There are water coolers and glasses placed in the lobby, the bar, and by the pool. The breakfast every morning was simple but freshly made. The fruit was all PERFECT! The coffee was delicious (we've had a lot of bad coffee at hotels all over the world). We ate lunch most days in the bar. Augustine was fantastic, as were the other young guys that worked in the bar area. It was a short walk (10-20 minutes) to a mini super and lots of restaurants.|The beach was amazing - warm turquoise green shallow water, powder white sand. Yes, there was a little bit of seagrass that washed up, but nothing to complain about. We never had to get up at the crack of dawn to get a palapa. And yes, there is a "road" between the hotel and the beach, but it is the same sand as the beach. One of nicest "roads" I've ever seen. We walked on the sandbar for an hour to the right of the hotel to the bird sanctuary, and then walked an hour back. Saw flocks of wild flamingos, great egret, pelicans, majestic frigatebirds, a fever of about 25 stingrays, small baracudas, lots of needle fish and bullseye pufferfish, etc.|I wasn't sure about the pool before we got there, but we actually really liked it - coconut palms towering above it, a little sunny, a little shady. There are no loungers directly by the pool, but there are tiled ledges in the deep end to sit on.|The only negatives were that sometimes there was an unpleasant smell that eminated from the shower drain (hence the automatic air freshener/scent dispenser in the bathroom) and our room was beside and above the bar for the neighbouring hotel and there was music playing (rather loudly) from 6-10pm every day. Also, the employees at the neighbouring hotel spent a lot of time hanging out and talking loudly amongst themselves.|But we easily lived with those two minor negatives because everything else was wonderful! We would stay again at Palapas Del Sol without any hesitation.

Very nice hotel. Only complaint is that the lighting inside the room was quite dim and there was no tap outside to wash feet (meaning the floor inevitably becomes sandy). The included breakfast was extensive and flavoursome.

A Little Luxury in Paradise – The Tower Room at Palapas del Sol We were traveling to Holbox with my wife and our baby daughter for our honeymoon, and we decided to slightly extend our budget to stay in the "Tower Room" at Palapas del Sol. I'm honestly at a loss for words to describe how incredible the room was—with three private terraces and our very own watchtower to enjoy breathtaking sunsets with a 360° view. It’s a bit pricier than the regular rooms, but I truly believe it’s worth every penny. The staff were amazing—always smiling, kind, and helpful. The service was on par with that of a luxury hotel. The food was delicious, and the prices for cocktails, drinks, and meals were more than fair. The beach sunbeds were just perfect for relaxing. This hotel is truly magical, and I sincerely hope we’ll have the chance to return one day to experience it all over again!

We had a very unpleasant experience during our stay at Palapas del Sol. The manager told me, “I’m going to take a few things upstairs.” I responded, “Sure, once my wife comes down, you can go in,” thinking it was housekeeping coming to clean the room. However, shortly after, my wife needed to use the bathroom and returned to the room, only to find four unfamiliar people doing construction and carpentry work inside. Sawdust and dust were falling all over our belongings—our clothes and shoes were left dirty—and my wife was unable to use the bathroom comfortably. The noise from drills, ladders, and tools was extremely disruptive. At no point did the manager inform us that there would be construction work inside our room. The manager later offered us a bottle of wine or a complimentary dinner as compensation, but honestly, that doesn’t seem like appropriate treatment for guests who booked what is advertised as a premium experience, especially given the high prices of the rooms. This incident was very upsetting for both me and my wife. It ruined our day and even disrupted my sleep that night due to the stress and discomfort caused. At the check-out they told us we wouldn’t have to pay for our consumption (one of our lunches and some beverages), which we appreciated. However, I didn’t want to let the situation go unaddressed, because I truly feel like I lost a full day of rest and peace due to this disturbance.

This was our first time on Holbox and we really enjoyed staying at Palapas Del Sol. We came on the eve of Fat Tuesday and left before the start of US spring break, so the island itself was not too busy. We enjoyed breakfast each day between 8-9am mostly alone at the beach bar. The hotel is on the quieter and cleaner side of the beach, but only a 20min walk to the very center of town. Only one trip did we take a taxi in, the rest of the time we walked. We always got beach loungers every time we went onto the beach, even though we were told the hotel was almost at capacity. We attempted to move our room when we got there because we were on the first floor and the doors are made of glass with just a linen curtain, and we were right on the pool, but it turns out we had no worries about privacy- barely anyone walked by or hung out at the pool. There were only about 4 kids at the hotel while we were there, but it would definitely be a good place to stay with kids. Very safe, clean, and welcoming. I think there are some rooms that are ADA compliant, but most are not. Minimum 3 little steps up to “first floor” rooms. Steep stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms. I did not see any ramps. The free breakfast was great and fresh, we went into town for lunch & dinner. We will be back!

Lovely hotel and beach front access with friendly restaurant staff but a few very important points to note before booking given it’s not cheap! 1) the reception staff are miserable and unwelcoming, 2) the food and drink are average not brilliant and the restaurant was dead every night (likely because of that!) breakfast options are very limited and not great, 3) no proper pool - there is a tiny pond pool but disappointing as tiny and can’t sit around it, 4) tiny wardrobe and no chest of drawers so couldn’t hang many clothes, 5) cockroaches and insects came into bedroom and bathroom, 6) smell of sewage / toilets on the beach occasionally is really unpleasant.

This bright and happy hotel felt like home for us all for our week-long yoga retreat. We felt cared for, safe and protected and delighted by the consistent smiles of all of the hard-working staff. Each room is unique, decorated in refreshing and accomodating ways, and kept quite clean as well. The beaches and the hotel's beach areas are swept clear of seaweed and maintained well and the beach bar was inviting and lots of fun! The meals were fresh, delicious and served with pride and efficiency. Even those in the group with food sentsitivities were quite pleased by the selections! Management was a delight and consistently on top of any question or concern with genuine care. And the yoga studio space was sublime and also kept tidy buy thoughtful staff. We'll return again and again!
