"Located 45 minutes from the international airport, this former friary is "filled with beauty, history, and luxury—every corner has an eye-catcher. It's a treat." Rooms have fireplaces and wood-beamed ceilings and are simply decorated with earth-tone furniture. The place has "a museum quality"; indeed, the hotel's museum exhibits a collection of colonial items including sculptures and silver religious objects found on the site. El Refectorio serves local and international dishes at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At El Tenedor de Cerro, tamer choices such as pasta and pizza come with views of the volcanoes Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. "The food and the staff are wonderful."

My wife and I had our wedding at this hotel and we have gone back several times over the many years. This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. If you ever visit Guatemala, this is a must visit. The views, the rooms, the environment are just stunning.

During my recent visit to Antigua Guatemala, I indulged in the spa services at Hotel Museo Spa Casa Santo Domingo, and it was an experience beyond compare. The spa’s facilities are world-class, seamlessly blending luxury with the historic charm of the property, which is set on the grounds of a former 17th-century convent. ||||The ambiance is serene, with both indoor and outdoor areas designed for ultimate relaxation. I particularly enjoyed the heated outdoor pool surrounded by lush vegetation, as well as the jacuzzis and wet and dry saunas. ||||The service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff were attentive and professional, ensuring a personalized experience. The 60-minute holistic massage I received was fantastic, leaving me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. ||||What sets this spa apart is its unique integration into the historic surroundings. The architecture and design elements reflect the rich history of the convent, creating a truly unique atmosphere that enhances the overall experience. ||||For those seeking an intimate experience, the hotel offers rooms with direct access to the spa, known as their Spa Living concept, which is an excellent option for adults looking for a private retreat. ||||Overall, my time at the spa was nothing short of extraordinary. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Antigua Guatemala seeking relaxation in a unique and historic setting.

This is my second time staying at this hotel, it is located at the entrance of Antigua, but still close to everything. |The check in was slow , but friendly and very accommodating staff. We had to wait for our room because we arrived early, check-in is at 3 pm. so we took the time to visit the hotel’s museums , they are very beautiful and informative. |There was no coffee maker or water in the rooms, but they have centralized water and coffee stations early in the morning and in the evening. |Our rooms were comfortable, a little dated but in the sense that the furniture is looking old but because of use , not the style :) we were close to the street and they don’t have insulated windows, so we heard all the street noise. |The hotel was under remodeling so they had noise during the day and we were not warned about it , but due to it , they gave us an upgrade. |The restaurant is always great , enjoyed their food. We ordered room service for breakfast and the service was excellent.

This email (from which I received no response) that I wrote to the hotel covers it! There’s more: the manager on Friday morning, Oscar, was extremely standoffish and arrogant and would not even visit the room to confirm the sickening smell. When they finally changed our room, I was only offered a 20% credit for one night. I 100% do NOT recommend this place. They are $ hungry and do not care about their guest’s comfort. ||Hello|Unfortunately, we checked in late on Thursday and were extremely disappointed to find out that our room #166 is a basement with no windows for ventilation. This room, if you even can consider this an inhabitable hotel room, has a very strong musty smell that hits you as soon as you open the door. It is very hot and we are running the AC so we can at least breathe. |Needless to say, we are very unhappy, and when we spoke to Juan Pablo at the desk, he told us we had no choice, but to stay in this room for the night. |It’s hard for me to believe that I when I booked this room back in March, over eight months ago, this is what I get!|Especially disappointing is that I am here for my son’s wedding and we, as a group have over 15 rooms booked. |I was very clear to Juan Pablo that I have no intention of paying for the night in this room as it is uninhabitable. In fact, the hotel should be embarrassed to even hold this room out as rentable, especially for what you say is a five star hotel!|Please have someone contact me no later than 830 on Friday morning to discuss this matter.|Thank you.

Oh my goodness this place is beautiful. The artwork, ruins, flowers and foliage are all breathtaking. I spent the day at the spa and the tranquility, service and amenities were all so restorative. The beds are comfortable, the food delicious, and the staff were so kind and helpful. I’m very grateful for my stay here!

Located at the entrance of Antigua, this hotel is in the beautiful ruins of an 18th-century convent. From the moment you step through the grand stone archway, you feel like you’ve entered a secret world. This former 18th century convent has been transformed into a romantic retreat that blends centuries of history with modern-day luxury. The rooms themselves are warm, comfortable and inviting, striking just the right balance between old-world charm and contemporary comfort. Curl up by the fireplace in the evening, or gaze out at beautiful gardens from your window. It's easy to feel relaxed and pampered here. As you wander through the open-air hallways and admire the preserved ruins, you’ll sense the timeless beauty that makes this place so special. Dining is just as memorable. Each dish is inspired by both local and international flavors, creating a menu that feels both familiar and exciting. With centuries-old arches overhead and candlelight setting the mood, dinner easily turns into a lingering, romantic experience. The on-site spa is the perfect way to relax with a soothing couples’ massage! Top- notch hospitality and service!

Casa Santo Domingo is one of my favorite hotels in the world. Set within the stunning ruins of an 18th-century convent that was partially destroyed in the 1773 earthquake, this hotel offers an unforgettable experience. The grounds are a blend of history and elegance, with beautiful gardens, on-site museums, remnants of an old church, catacombs, a pool, jacuzzi, spa, and an outstanding restaurant. The rooms are modern and comfortable but not lavish, maintaining a subtle charm that complements the historical surroundings. We’ve stayed here twice and will again, and it’s the perfect base to explore the beauties of Antigua. It’s also a popular choice for Guatemalans on vacation, so booking in advance is recommended. A truly special place!

This was a great hotel for a couples getaway long weekend (4 nights). It's close to the main square (10min walk) and the town felt "accessible" from the hotel. There were a LOT of hotels that looked fine nearby, but this was close enough to be convenient and far enough to be relatively peaceful.||The property itself is every large and we save a few hours on our last morning to view the 3-4 museums on the property. It was pretty neat to have those onsite and free for guests. If you wanted to lay out in the courtyard or by the pool to chill, you could. There are lots of quiet places to spend time here. There were multiple business groups meeting at the hotel while we were there and ti didn't disturb us much.||Two issues with the hotel that were just strange to me:|1. In most places where you probably shouldn't drink the water, the water bottles in the pool are free. Usually, it's like 1 per day or something like that. Without any signs, I checked out to see that they charged us for the water. Worse, the charged a PER BOTTLE handling fee to replace those bottles. That just seems petty for a room that was several $100 per night.||2. We reserved a suite with a big living room and some space. We just like to spread out and not be crammed into a little room. The room was very nice, but oddly, instead of a king (or queen) bed, it was two twice beds in the bedroom. That just seemed like an odd decision. Thats 2x true because the living room had tons of space for a pullout sofa or rollaway bed. I guess if you're traveling with your buddy and want to room together, this makes sense. I'm not sure what family or couple thinks this is a good setup.||Anyway, I'd stay here again for sure, but would probably downgrade the room if I can get a better bed.
