We were torn between staying here and at AWA, and I’m very glad we chose Casa Takywara. Holbox is a rustic place, and when it comes to hotels, it doesn’t get more rustic than this - Casa Takywara is literally on the beach, with the sand separating the different parts of the hotel. That said, we stayed in the penthouse room and it was fantastic - easily up to 5-star standards. The location is also great, just a 10-minute walk to the centre.

Perfect place to stay on Holbox! Located right on the beach (literally a few steps), you can walk to the centre of the island in around 15 minutes. The staff are super helpful, and the setting is so peaceful. Our room was very spacious and clean, highly recommend staying here!

Stayed here for 4 nights during low season and at the tail end of hurricane/rainy season. The staff were all really lovely and helpful. Fantastic rooms, really stylish and clean. I felt very comfortable hanging out in my room, and in the hammock on the terrace when It was raining. When it was sunny - it was about a 90 second walk from my room to the beach loungers! I opted for the in-house breakfast outside my room which was lovely and huge portions, but the same every day.

Stayed for 5 nights and it was exactly what we wanted. A lovely spacious room with 2 double beds, a little kitchen and a nice modern bathroom. Right on the beach - no need for shoes just walk barefoot. A little further from the main town for bars and restaurants so you’ve got a 10–5 minute walk but we didn’t mind and you can mostly walk along the beach. It is a bit more simple and local feeling, which is exactly what we liked about it, but if you’re looking for modern luxury this probably isn’t for you. Breakfast is simple but perfectly nice.

We stayed in the bungalow right on the beach, it was absolutely superb. We booked it in 2020 and had to wait til August 22 to come, it was worth the wait! Perfect location in a quiet part of the island, but only a short walk from a range of bars and restaurants. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and brought in a basket to us. Tea and coffee facilities and cooker in the bungalow. ||The staff were really friendly and helpful as well, and there were only a handful of people on our beach at any time. Very little problem with mosquitoes and cream provided for people at reception.||I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay on Holbox Island

We stayed for 4 nights with our two teenage children.|The good:|- The hotel makes an effort at sustainability. Ample fresh water is offered in a large ceramic carafe. Containers for glass, cans and plastic bottle recycling were set up while we were there. (What happens to them afterwards was unclear though). Compost is collected. Soap and shampoo are in refillable glass containers. Breakfast items are served in glass Tupperware. The decoration includes plants growing in shells.|- Some of the staff, especially the gardener, were very friendly and accommodating. |- The room was clean and sufficiently large for our family of 4. The AC worked well. The beds are comfortable. |The not so good:|- The family rooms are located on the ground floor and are very dark, as surrounded by a palapa roof. It was impossible to tell if the sun was shining or it was raining. Also, you need to have the curtains drawn all the time because the other guests pass by the room to go to the reception (eg for wifi, see below).|- The bathroom offers very little privacy (the door is covered by fabric). Also no privacy towards the outside (screen window opening towards the reception area).|- There is only wifi near the reception. A few repeaters should be installed around the property.|- Mosquitos 24/7. The island is known for being heavy on mosquitos, but this hotel is surrounded by a mangrove swamp, which makes it unbearable.|- Breakfast was quite good (fruit, granola, bread), but timing was very unreliable, some variation would have been nice, and the bread became drier and harder as the days passed.

I have been waiting now for 14 days for a refund of a large deposit and I am starting to worry I will not get my money back. If they end up refunding me, it is still good information for others to know, that they will hold onto your money for a two week period even after you canceled despite having a cancellation policy and window. I was not even supposed to travel there for five months from now. I am feeling extremely upset about this.

Beautiful peaceful hotelThe beach is steps away and you mostly will have it all to yourself. The town is easily walkable. The breakfast is delicious and the staff are very attentive and kind. Loved our stay.
