The hotel was in a great location in the Marais district, good Metro access in great neighborhood on a quiet street. Both the lobby and the room were depressing; bad lighting, and furniture that looked like it had been picked up at a garage sale. When I tried to move the wooden desk lamp in my room, the stem toppled off; it was clearly broken and that must have been obvious to anyone who had cleaned the room. Burned out light bulb next to bed. Cold stone floor with an industrial-looking gray mat, like something you’d put on your porch to wipe your feet, next to the bed instead of a throw rug. The room was small and you’d have to be a contortionist to squeeze between the bed and window to access the closet, but for me that wasn’t a big deal—it was really the neglected vibe of the place that was a downer. The bed was fine, the AC worked well, the bathroom seemed to have been recently remodeled and was fine—no major complaints, but a little TLC would go a long way here. Desk staff was mixed; some quite nice and helpful, others who couldn’t be bothered to look up and seemed annoyed to be disturbed. We were told coffee maker in the breakfast room was available 24/7 and that was true, but hotel does not leave any cups by the machine so you can grab the coffee to go, and I was stopped a few times as I walked to the breakfast room early in the morning and had to explain I was just going for coffee and knew breakfast wasn’t open yet. I learned to bring the paper disposable cups down from my room to get my early morning coffee. Elevator extremely slow but that seems to be common in small European hotels. I’m not sure where the outdoor courtyard pictured on the website is, we never saw that and were there for a week, but admittedly didn’t spend much time at the hotel. I’m not sure if the level of accommodation we got was to be expected for the price we paid in Paris, but I’d try someplace else next time (although I definitely would stay in the Marais district again!). A little attention to detail would go a really long way here.

The man at the front desk during the daytime. Perhaps in his fifties with a ponytail is extremely unhelpful and grumpy. He did not make an attempt to be understood, handed a key with a tissue as though it was somehow filthy. When asked if we could leave our luggage? He handed a bell with a card attached to it. And it sounded as though he said that that way is the restroom. However, he was saying the luggage room, it would have been quite simple for him to walk us over open the door where there was barely enough room for the luggage that was already there. Our room was actually already ready, as it was one thirty in the afternoon. We crammed our suitcases in this very tiny closet, one on top of the other. And thought we should wait so that if somebody came back and opened the door they would not tumble on the floor. After fifteen minutes when he saw, we were late waiting in the very small lobby. He said that we could go up to our room. The internet in the room was extremely spotty. It is an old building with some charm and very well located. To be fair, the younger gentleman who works the night shift was extremely kind and helpful. The man in the day, not helpful at all.

The rooms are very small and bathroom hardly able to turn inside also no mugs to have tea/coffee with 2 each of tea and coffee. There was no milk in the fridge just 2 paper cups. Not happy as its expensive. Unlike in Australia small hotel services as very good.

Our first impression, as we walked in, was how dirty and dusty it appeared. We stayed 5 nights. The first 3 days the bathroom sink was clogged. It would almost overflow and grim would come up as my husband shaved. No hot water for 2 days and we didn't have air conditioning until our last night. We tried to open the window for air, but due to the size of the room, and my suitcase was under the window, the window wouldn't stay open. I also had to crawl into the bed from the bottom due to suitcase and bed against the wall. It was tight quarters. The bed was made everyday and nice fresh towels were given, but the sheets were not changed the entire 5 days! We ate breakfast the first morning in the cute, but dirty, basement area, 11 pounds, as I recall. I would say fair for the price, but the Hostess was unhelpful and rude. We spoke to the day and evening front desk help about the room deficiencies. They offered no assistance other than that they would report it. To whom I wonder?? We never saw a Manager or Concierge! I will give one star for the Location. It was close to several subway stations and restaurants. So go for the area but find a different hotel.

One receptionist was rather surly upon check in at 1:50 pm (10 minutes early). He was watching TV when I checked in and seemed annoyed that I interrupted his show. The furniture seemed old and the adjoining rooms we had were not very clean. The wall in our room was all scuffed up. The carpet and paint all need to be updated. The bed was comfortable and the A.C was very effective. Excellent location. Not sure how this place is still rated as a 3 star hotel.

Charming, Vintage Hotel in the heart of Le Marais. Conveniently located in walking distance to shops, restaurants, museums, churches and Victor Hugo's House on Place de Vosges. |A lovely welcoming bottle of wine and friendly service. Walk around the corner for Cafe and Pan Chocolate for breakfast or go directly across the street to Thai Orchidee's beautiful atmosphere and delicious food for dinner.

We absolutely loved Hotel Castex. It's close to 2 different metro stops and at least 1 bus stop for easy getting around. There are a bunch of food places close by as well. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. The room was neat and had a lot of character.

I recently stayed at Hôtel Castex, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, ensuring every detail of my stay was taken care of. The room was immaculate and very comfortable. Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly situated, close to key attractions yet tucked away enough to provide a peaceful retreat. Overall, the hotel provided an exceptional experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, friendly, and excellent service. I will definitely be returning on my next visit!

Yelp
No stars. I booked a flight and stay (Hotel) from 7/1424 to 7/21/24 at the Hotel Castex . On 7/16/24 I found a bedbug on my pillow. I called to get a cancellation or be given another room from a different hotel, and the Expedia' s operator said that it was last minute and I couldn't get a refund. I wanted just to get a different hotel. I am not sure why I should have my reservation canceled without knowing what my refund will be ?

Yelp
I regret to say that my recent stay at Hotel Castex was marred by an absolutely appalling incident. As a guest who values safety and respect, I never imagined I would become a victim of physical assault during what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway. The incident started around 9:45 am on June 14th 2024, with a conversation about checking out of the hotel happened. Your staff member quickly became aggressive, and tried to trap me inside the hotel by manually closing the sliding doors to lock me inside. Fearing for my safety, I escaped onto the street, while your staff member followed me and grabbed my suitcase while I pleaded and cried for him to stop. These actions resulted in me falling to the pavement. I have scratches and small bruises on my arm from the fall. this included pushing and shoving, all while hurling insults and accusations. I have paid for the balance of the hotel room but I am concerned about the well-being of other guests at your hotel while he in a staff member. I believe it is important for you to be aware of this incident and to take appropriate action to address the behavior of the staff member involved. It is unfathomable that a hospitality establishment, which prides itself on customer service, could allow such behavior from its management. I felt violated, disrespected, and utterly unsafe during my stay. This experience has left me traumatized and reluctant to ever return or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yelp
One look at my room at the Castex Hôtel and all I could do was laugh at the two sad little twin beds, slightly sunken in at the middle (which would squeak when I turned over in the night - glad I didn't attempt anything more exuberant upon them.) My room was up one dark flight of stairs which lead to a landing upon which there were several doors. Behind one of those doors and down a similarly dark hallway was my room. After a couple of ins and outs I discovered the light switches in the hallway (unfortunately, they do not immediately announce themselves when you're searching in the dark.) There's old and charming and then there's just old (and kind of dusty.) Sadly, my accommodations at the Castex fall squarely into the latter category. I found my room fairly dumpy and definitely did not look forward to returning to it after a series of long days. The staff were friendly, which I appreciated. But the final nail in the coffin for the Castex was when they declined my card upon check out. This same card worked both before and after their attempted charge. This took extra time to sort out and I feared I'd miss my train as a result. I wouldn't recommend the Castex Hôtel to friends and it's not a place to which I'd consider returning.

Yelp
Superior location: good and clean rooms and a warm and welcoming host. Excellent for the couple looking to explore Paris at an affordable cost.

Yelp
In Paris, in the Maree. A block away from the Bastille. Good location. Not too far from the Louvre and Notre Dame. Room layout kinda funky due to the layout of the old school building. Nice breakfast.

Yelp
Very sweet little hotel in the perfect location. I stayed in one of the small single rooms - perfect for someone traveling alone. The hotel is a two minute walk from the bastille metro station and near a lot of cute cafes and bakeries and beautiful old streets. The room was simple but very clean and the staff was very kind.

Yelp
I only stayed one night here because I had arrived one day earlier then my family and needed a place to stay becuase we always rent an apartment. I've been to Paris many times although I hadn't stayed in the Maris. This trip I decided I would! The staff was very welcoming. My room wasa lovely typical French accomdations except the bed took up the majority of the space. Can't really complain about having a bed that's too large, but it didn't give you much room to walk around it. C'est la vie! The continental breaksfast was more then delightful but it was the dining space that blew me away. It was a lovely space located in the basement. Although there was a chill in the air, it felt warm and inviting. I could have spent the whole day there reading a great book while drinking cafe! But alas! I'm in Paris so why stay in?! There are two Metro's nearby. A Monprix is also close. Lla post located on the same street as the hotel. People might think there isn't much located close by. Well, they are sorely wrong. Besides the Bastille, of course, there is the Square de Louis XIII, Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise, Mairie de Paris, the ile Saint Louis and the Jardine de Plantas which has the most delightfully enchated zoo I've ever seen! This is just scratching the surface. The Maris is enchanting as well. In all it's a sweet hotel in a great location.
