Location is the best. The restaurant food is great. Service in rooms is prompt. Yes, you do hear some noise and some parts are older. You get TV and AC remotes when check-in. There is an elevator but being on the third floor just take the stairs.

A comfortable hotel in the historic city centre. The rooms are a bit outdated and the shower could look a bit better, but overall it's very nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. I recommend the hotel a lot. Not a lot of noise.

We have been here three times on our trip to Mexico, using it as a base for adventures. They have been wonderful in every aspect. Great service, comfortable beds, good showers, even extra charging spots next to the bed. Location is close to the zocalo so it made it easy to spend time there. Then just a block away from 7/11.

Google
rooms shabby, towel rails falling, shower either very hot or cold. staff surly, didn't even bother to say goodbye and everything felt like an inconvenience. rooms! if you want to have an outside window (as opposed to a window facing an indoor shaft) be prepared for noise even from the 6th floor. only reason I gave it 2 not 1 star was convenience to Zocalo and public transport. won't stay there again ( food not great either)

Third night here and still loving it. Got room 601. Top floor so there was some outside noise, but I usually had the windows open and it wasn't too noisy for me. Great location a few minutes walk to the Zocalo and Metro Pino Juarez and market was even closer. The room and building were very clean. Always had hot water, WiFi, and a room safe. I've been to the restaurant 3 times already and am happy with the food and service. Every staff member I've come in contact with has been polite and efficient. The only downside I can think of is closet space -- enough for me for 5 days, but with more people, it could get a little tight . Besides that, I look forward to visiting here again.

Yelp
It's in a good area and just walking distance to the old historic zocalo area. For the price we paid and the size of room it can't be beat. The room does not have air conditioning but they provide a stand up fan which makes it comfortable to sleep. The beds are comfy and the bathroom is adequate in size. The staff was always helpful in everything I requested or when I asked about transportation.

Yelp
If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in the Historic Center of Mexico City, look no further. We spent about $10 USD for one night at Hotel Castropol, for two people with two beds. We've looked into several cheap hotels, and Hotel Castropol was the winner in regards to price, location, and good reviews. The staff members were very attentive, and there were a few who spoke English. Everything was great, but I would like to touch on a few flaws. First and foremost, the room can get pretty loud. You can hear people from down the hall, and I'm sure others can hear you. Since the room does not have an actual AC unit except for a fan, we left our windows open. Because the windows were open, there were a lot more noise than usual. We heard people on their phones; we heard kids screaming. If you are looking for peace and quiet, I don't think this place is right for you. Second, I'm unsure if this is normal or not, but there was a cat in the hotel. Although I am mildly allergic to some cats, I love cats. Heck, we have two of our own. I am only saying this as a forewarning to others. As we were headed to our room, the cat followed us into the elevator. There was no way of kicking the cat off unless we left the elevator, so we did just that--we ended up taking the stairs. If you are mildly fine with noises and cats and you're looking for a cheap place to stay, then Hotel Castropol is the best option for you. Would I stay here again? Yes, I most definitely would stay here again. Staying at Hotel Castropol does not break my budget nor does it ruin my sleep.

Yelp
Restaurant has amazing food! Place is clean and cleaning staff is trustworthy to not touch anything that ain't theirs. They have WiFi too. The front staff could be a little friendlier but all I all not a bad experience

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel off and on for the last 2 years. The hotel went through some thorough renovation at later part of 2017. August or so. The hotel is in top shape. New flooring, decor, furniture, restaurant, elevator...etc Staff has always been friendly, attentive, and service oriented from the moment we have gotten dropped off by taxi at the front of hotel. Prices are extremely reasonable given the service, amenities, and location of the hotel. You walk approximately 3 blocks to reach the historic plaza/zocalo and museum of mexican anthropology. On your way there, you walk by the Museo de ciudad de Mexico (museum of city of Mexico), the home and former palace on Count of Santiago y Calimaya. You will find expositions and two rooms with furniture from the era, however, the architecture is the best part to admire!! Incredible. Across the street from the hotel, two blocks down, you will find many local bars and places to eat. Local beers and traditional dishes from the region. Another block ahead will take you to Chocolateria Mayordomo, a place to enjoy traditional chocolate drinks and excellent breakfast. Oaxaca style. They also sell chocolate there to take home and make. Hotel Castropol could not be in a better location where its walking distance to many places without the use of public transportation. Very convenient. We have never had a negative or unpleasant experience in the 6 different times we have stayed here. The hotel has a restaurant on the 2nd floor that provides room service. I give this restaurant a 6 out 10 in taste. Prices are reasonable and they do offer a variety in dishes. Will continue to stay there and enjoy this hotel and its services.

Yelp
Pretty good, other than the lack of air conditioning (which can make it hard to sleep if you're not used to heat). They provide fans though, which help. Pros: * Great location * Clean * Friendly enough Cons: * No air conditioning * No "do not disturb" sign * No fridge * No coffee maker (probably normal here)

Yelp
Excellent value and location! Comfortable beds, strong water pressure, very well-appointed rooms. Cheap room service with adequate food, bottled water, secure, excellent location. I imagined a flophouse for $25 in the historic center, but it turns out $25 can get you quite a lot in CDMX. I later stayed at a very upmarket place elsewhere in the city for five times the price; it was only marginally more chic and totally not worth it.

Yelp
Excelente ubicación, cerca de la estación de metro del Pino Suarez. Bajos precios para esa zona (MXN$500/pn). Tiene aparcamiento, pero no aceptará SUV. Muy ruidoso si tu habitación Vistas a la calle. -- Great location & value. Has underground parking, but it won't fit an SUV. Next to the Pino Suarez metro station, where metro lines 1 & 2 cross. 7 minute walk to the Zocalo. I stayed there in December 2014, they were renovating the hotel. I had a room that faced the street, the noise of the amplified music and touts from the shops on Pino Suarez punches right through the windows, so you'll need earplugs if you want to sleep before 10pm. The hotel advertises WiFi & a public computer, but it often doesn't work. The credit card terminal also often has "problems", so bring cash just in case. Great selection of street food & bars near the hotel, as well as a decent in-house restaurant. They have laundry in the hotel, but it's expensive (MXN$200). Some of the day staff speak English & German, but have decent Spanish at the ready.

Yelp
We came to Mexico City for a concert and decided to stay in an affordable hotel close to the venue. This hotel started off good and ended up awful. The worst part was the bathrooms, horrible. Had one old window that when opened it faced the windows of other rooms. It also smelled old and moldy. The beds were decent. The TV was also in a good location. Wi-fi was actually pretty good. I know we get what we pay for, especially since we paid $150 dollars for four nights. The staff was pretty friendly. The most annoying part was that they had people coming in and out making noise at all times during the night. Housekeepers were walking in the hallways and loading their carts very early in the morning. By far the last night was the worse. At 1am they had workers moving furniture from the room next to us for about an hour. Overall the noise factor was a huge issue. I'd definitely never go back.
