Hotel Catedral Plaza

The location of the hotel is amazing. The hotel is going under renovations (I think) and I’m sure when it’s complete it will be great. However during my 4 night stay we had hot water the very last morning, the jacuzzi tub in the room is just for show because it doesn’t even have water to it and they charge a lot for bottled water. It’s a nice place but I’m reluctant to recommend it. I will be looking for other options to try next time I’m in Santa Marta.

The front desk staff have to be the rudest people that I’ve ever dealt with. The bad: The Direct TV did not work, no bottled water in the room, no coffee maker in the room, the beds are single beds that are put together to make a king bed., our room has lots of street noise. The good: the staff that work on the 6th floor are very nice, breakfast was so so. It is one of the more expensive hotels downtown, first impressions mean a lot, when you get treated bad on the way in and on the way out there is a problem. Management needs to speak with the people working at the front desk.

Don't stay here. Much like others mention, for $164USD per night this place leaves you with a very bad taste. It is a tired property, filthy in many common areas. The "suite" we booked was a tired room with a door that wouldn't close properly, no phone, hard pillows, old towels, crappy TV service, curtains don't close, dirty windows, a bathtub that was not anchored to the floor and looked like deathtrap because you plugged it in next to water, broken old hair dryer! Breakfast was on the sixth floor which was abysmal, just eggs and fried arepas along with the worst coffee you tasted in Colombia! The pool area looks dirty and unwelcoming. Don't waste your time or money here, it's not worth it. Don't be fooled by the pictures, we were clearly charged tourist idiot prices. The pics you see were clearly from when it first opened and it is NOT what it looks like now.

Really enjoyed my stay here. It’s on the cusp of downtown and a short walking distance to the Mercado so you can sample both the tourist and local fare. At night there is a lot of amazing street fare on the corner and super cheap. The staff were super friendly and the breakfast was above average, great Arepas. Make sure you check out the sunset from the pool.

I recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel while traveling for work purposes. I had left them 2 requests when booking, and as soon as I checked in while having arrived from the other side of the world, they let me know that they were aware of them and were accommodating my requests. Very attentive. Also in general staff was very nice and hospitable. The room was good as well - a good desk, fridge, nice bathroom, comfy bed. Really enjoyable stay; and I would certainly stay here again if coming back to Santa Marta

Good experience over all. Great location in center of the city. I booked through Expedia but my room was not window facing. It seemed smaller in size and did not have cute chair. There is only one elevator, which is slow and requires you to wait sometimes. There were no towels when I checked-in the room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic. Not enough options for Vegetarians.

We arrived around 00:00 with a group of 10. The elevator was not working and we had to cary our luggage’s for up to 5 floors. There was no hot water for one day and a half. Also, at the breakfast they didn’t refill anything, lucky if you go early. The mini bar was empty in some rooms. We couldn’t connect to the internet at all for two days. The telephone to communicate with the reception it wasn’t working and in one room the lights were not working properly. We stay for two nights. At least, the staff was keen to help.

The hotel was very pretty and rooms are comfy The staff was friendly. We have booked it last minute as another hotel cancelled on us last minute due to overbooking. It was more expensive but we took as they have a swimming pool on rooftop. When we have checked in we found several faults in our room like a broken shower, not enough towels and no batteries in the safe. When we went upstairs we only found that we couldn't use the pool as there was cleaning and it was shut till NEXT DAY. Cocktails in the bar upstairs were excellent and food was ok. Breakfast was great and it served on top floor as well, so its a nice thing to have. Therefore i can rate this hotel at 3.5 max.
