This is my first time ever writing a review, but I felt compelled to share our recent experience at Hotel Cimbel, especially after staying there to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday.||||I had booked a swimming pool balcony room, expecting a memorable stay, but unfortunately, several issues left us feeling very let down. First and foremost, I returned home with a severe ear infection—something I’ve never had in my life. I can only assume it came from the pool water, which raises hygiene concerns.||||The beds were incredibly uncomfortable—hard and not conducive to a good night’s sleep. Even more troubling, my husband’s footwear was stolen from around the poolside within a 10-minute window, suspiciously while staff were clearing up for the day. There were no other guests around who appeared suspicious, and while we’re not making direct accusations, the circumstances were certainly odd.||||Upon returning to the UK, I noticed a charge of €13 was taken from my account for drinks supposedly taken from the minibar in my daughter’s room. However, no drinks were consumed from that fridge as we were fully aware of the charges, and my daughter only used the room for sleeping. All daytime activity occurred in our room, which had a pool and included complimentary drinks.||||Lastly, we found a bottle of champagne and two glasses in our room on arrival. We assumed it was a kind gesture from the hotel, knowing we were celebrating a special occasion. Thankfully, before opening it, my husband discovered a small plastic card hidden in the ice bucket indicating a £70 charge. Had we not seen this, we could have easily been charged without realising.||||Overall, this was a very disappointing stay, particularly considering it was meant to be a celebration. For anyone considering this hotel, I would strongly recommend looking at alternatives nearby. In February, we stayed at Hotel Melia just down the road and had a wonderful experience there—absolutely no complaints.
