Citta dei Nicliani, Koita, Laconia, Peloponnese - Explore & Book

"Run by the Sepsas family - Ilias and Tania, and their son Panagiotis - this small hotel in the southern Peloponnese is a treasure. Back in 2006, after several years of living and working abroad, Ilias purchased a stone tower house dating from 1750 in his native Mani. A careful and sensitive renovation project ensued, along with the addition of an extension in traditional Maniot style, and an 8-room boutique hotel was born.As you step through the arched entrance into the cobbled courtyard, peace and harmony prevail. A stone terrace - with white canvas director's chairs and sunbeds, a shallow pond, bougainvillea, cacti, fragrant lavender bushes, terracotta urns and the family cats - affords blissful views over the surrounding olive groves. And you couldn't ask for a more dramatic location. Here in the shadow of the rugged heights of Mt Taygetus, the Deep Mani is stark, rocky and totally unspoilt. Koita is one of the region's oldest and best-known villages, famed for its traditional Maniot tower houses, built by feuding families between the 14th and 19th centuries. Today, it couldn't be more tranquil - and neither could this hotel. Highs A beautifully restored building, with a serene outdoor spaceJust 8 romantic rooms, combining historic details with modern comforts Excellent valueDelicious, traditional food prepared from fresh regional produce, and widely recognised as one of Greece's Top 10 Hotels for wineThe Deep Mani is wild and unspoilt, offering a total escape from commercial tourism. Come here to hike, bike and relax Lows Koita is well off the beaten track and poorly served by public transport, so you'll want a carYou'll need to book well in advance during the main holiday seasonNo bathtubs or twin rooms" - Jane Foster

We have just had 2 wonderful nights staying at this atmospheric hotel, savouring the warm hospitality of Tanya and Elias, who now feel like old friends. We had a spacious room with a dear little balcony with views over the hills and a large private terrace at the rear. Elias gave us lots of ideas for how to spend our days and then cooked sumptuous breakfasts and dinners for us. We also enjoyed the company of other guests including an English family who return every year to stay here. We especially loved the peaceful village location, which apart from having a well stocked little supermarket, felt quite isolated just like the Mani itself. We wish we could have stayed longer.

We have stayed here each year for 11 years and love it. It is different and quirky with a mix of ancient and new renovated to create a comfortable impression of the old tower dwellings of the area, with modern additions of aircon, USB charge points and TVs and fridges. The owners are rightly proud of their hotel which was a family endeavour.|Breakfast is a feast, adapted to your dietary needs, with a huge collection of teas from around the caves. Dinner is a treat sitting on the terrace as the sun sets.|The owners offer information abouts walks, beaches and villages to visit to get the best from this unique area. |The owners are well travelled and having experienced many cultures, share their experiences within the service they offer and stories they share. Many clients return again and again, like us, I need not say anything more!

What a true discovery we have found in this delightful area of the Peloponeese. Tanya and Elias are the perfect hosts. The accommodation is unique - superb bedding, fantastic cleanliness, food to die for. This is truly the best hotel we have stayed in in that wonderful Mani area. A complete chill out zone. Fantastic views. A fantastic healthy breakfast served every day on the enchanting terrace overlooking the hills and ultimately down to the sea. There is a first class menu available for dinner and all cooked with the local delicacies. We cannot wait to return next year. Thank you to our hosts and their staff Darum and Lal for making our stay so enjoyable

As soon as I walked inside the courtyard of Citta Del Nicliani I immediately fell head over heels in love. What a glorious haven husband and wife team Elias and Tanya have created. The grounds are from a 1,300 Byzantine village they have salvaged with every inch of attention to detail with the most glorious artistic aesthetics of blending the old with the new. With both being artists, Elias an engineer & Tanya an interior designer, they have poured their love of their worldly travels and their care for authenticity into your experience being exceptional. That goes for their love of cooking too. It’s a foodies experience for sure, with the most unique first class tastes & presentation for both your delicious breakfast and most memorable dinner experiences. ||Their paradise is perfectly located for you to leisurely experience by car traversing through the diverse uniqueness of all the wonders on the Mani peninsula. ||Both Tanya & Elia’s joy of giving you the very best experience makes it hard to leave their property and a sure thing that you will return. ||I definitely left a piece of my heart there. Until next time.

We are returning each time at this unique place. Chic and yet relaxed, every detail is perfect, from the honey selection ( even truffle honey!) to the lovely dinner served in one of the most enchanting of Mani terraces. Every bedroom is super cozy and confortable, silence is superb and Tanya and Elias are as wonderful as the place they have created here.

We stayed here for three nights in early July. Beautiful small hotel with an excellent team, including a very talented chef/owner. Location is perfectly suited for olive grove strolls or driving <10min to multiple beaches and bays. Also remote enough to hear the jackals in the night..! Will come back!

A really interesting hotel in a small village in the outer Mani. It is converted from some old towers and buildings which has informed the layout and design.||Parking in just below the hotel, some might find it a little awkward and I wouldn't want to arrive in the dark on my first arrival. You then follow some signs up to the gate and across the hotel's terrace. Bedrooms are dispersed around the buildings, most requiring negotiation of some steps . The historic building means that they are little on the small side but wonderfully designed and with interesting decoration. ||The bed was large and comfortable. Sheets and towels are changed every 2-3 days. Good double glazing and aircon. We slept very well. Great shower with good hot water.||A delicious and varied breakfast. Not a buffet but instead a platter of various delights such as fruit, yogurt, cheese, pastries, homemade jams etc, changes each day and served on the terrace. All with a vast range of teas. There is a glass enclosed pergola/lounge which is used if the weather is not cooperating. ||The village is an ideal base for exploring this fascinating area and the owners have a wealth of advice and information. Dinner is available on request at the hotel or there are a number of good tavernas recommended within a 20 minutes drive.||Tanya keeps a close eye on running this lovely hotel. Well recommended.

We planned our three-week adult family trip around being able to take a break here-- our "vacation from our vacation," and we chose very well. Our rooms were large and comfortable, with honeysuckles out our door, and the soft ringing of sheep bells and goat bells the only sounds greeting us in the afternoon before dinner. Breakfast was always a delight, and dinner (we dined at the hotel twice) was delicious: local specialties served outdoors under the evening sky. If you stay at the otel, it is well worth it to have dinner there at least once; just remember to order in the morning so the owners can get the ingredients and start cooking for you before you sit down.
