I had visited Lloret de Mar (Spain) the year before and stayed at Aqua Hotel Bertran across the road from Cleopatra. That experience was excellent, so we decided to return. However, since Cleopatra was cheaper we chose it instead. I deeply regret that choice and am shocked at the stark difference between two hotels just a street apart.||Cleopatra is supposed to be a 4-star hotel, but it lacked the facilities expected of such a rating. There were no kettles or cups in the rooms for making tea, the minibar was temperamental so our drinks were not kept cold. The WiFi was unreliable, forcing me to use my own data. The lack of proper WiFi is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. Additionally, there was no iron in the room. ||The beds were change every morning and the floor mopped. However the sides and balcony were always left. The safe deposit box provided in the room did not work.||The majority of guests were middle-aged, working-class Caucasian couples. The entertainment, food, and general atmosphere catered more to that demographic rather than being open to diversity and multiculturalism, which is strange considering theme of the hotel is Egyptian Cleopatra.||Additionally, we were given orders as if we weren’t paying guests, such as being told to “remove your hat while in the breakfast hall,” and my wife was not allowed to use the pool unless she was dressed in a bikini. They compared wearing a modest swimsuit to being as offensive as going topless. These issues made us feel uncomfortable. Some of their staff need training on customer service.||However, to be fair there were some staff members who were really polite, professional and helpful, especially the tall man who works the night shift at reception and an older blonde lady who works during the day (apologies, but I do not remember their names). We also appreciated being able to extend our checkout for a reasonable price. ||In conclusion, this hotel is reasonable priced but doesn’t meet a 4* standard for me. The overall experience was ok but not what I would expect from a 4*and I probably wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.|The breakfast was basic and the same every day: bread, several types of pork, eggs, and sugary cakes.
