First time in Europe ever, touchdown Barcelona.
Hotel Colón set the bar high as far as first impressions of a city replete with gothic architecture, savory tapas, and rhythmic flamenco. What led me to book this hotel over others was its prime location -- in the heart of Gothic Quarter and right in front of the Catedral de Barcelona, which was awe-inspiring every time I stepped foot outside.
No need to book the room with the view either. As other reviewers have stated, there is an quintessential rooftop terrace bar which provides a beautiful view of the cathedral. Wait for an unhindered table and enjoy that instagrammable view. Worth it for a few drinks, not necessarily for the food.
However, the hotel breakfast buffet served downstairs is the BEST! Out of all the hotel breakfasts we encountered on our Euro trip, Hotel Colón had the number one spread -- a vast selection of meats, cheeses, sandwiches, fruits, yogurt, salad, and hot foods such as empanadas and sausages, complete with fresh juices and espressos. And a mimosa bar, too? Yes.
As for the room, it's clean and modern. Surprisingly spacious with a seating nook. Rain shower in the bathroom and great water pressure. Double twin bed comfortable. And a welcome gift!
The employees were all so attentive and friendly. We went in February, so I forgot all the names now, but the doormen always greeted you, helped with luggage, and even took us to the airport (this amenity is not standard, it depends on availability). Overall, excellent stay. Thank you!
