Hotel Colonial CR

Lovely hotel situated in the centre of San Jose. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast is good and adequate. The meal at the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel does not have a lift.

This location is great. It is easy for touring San Jose and the surrounding areas. It's close to restaurants and night life. For the most part it is a safe location. We were however disturbed by other hotel guest throwing bottles of water into our balcony doors the last night of our visit. We left the doors open because the AC in our room didn't work. The guest were trying to get our attention as they were locked out of the hotel because the night staff didn't come to work and there was no one to let them in. This was the only point we didn't feel safe. Overall the hotel was decent especially for a brief stay.

Pleasant hotel, good room, centrally located but lots of traffic noise. I agree with some other reviewers that the pictures on the website and here on this site make the hotel appear far more refined and maintained than it actually is. In the dining area in the pool courtyard I charged my mobile phone in a wall socket which simply fell out of its casing exposing wires. Parts of the pool don't look functional at all and we never saw anyone use it. Our room was large and pleasant but faced the main road and there was too much traffic noise even very early. If we'd stayed longer than 2 nights I would have asked for another quieter room. Breakfast was ok and this hotel is centrally located and acceptable for a short stay.

The hotel is a lot smaller than the pictures. The room is also small but has great shower and comfortable beds. There is no free parking, the reception will provide a voucher and you need to pay $7 to park next door. The hotel location is awesome, you can walk to most of the attractions. Breakfast buffet is great.

Overall, despite the worn out towel (thin and frayed) provided, I quite enjoyed the stay as the place has a character. Don't expect too much though. Bed was comfortable, so added one star :) Noisy rooms due to the busy roads nearby. Buffet breakfast was good, although the selection was very limited.

Great location (Short walk to Parque Central and pleasant Barrio Amón neighbourhood). Staff very helpful and friendly. Safe and secure hotel. A lovely breakfast to get the day going.

We stayed in room 25, not too noisy til 6am. We had AC. The pool Is more of an architectural feature really… it is closely situation to the central attractions. The breakfast was authentic, non ultra processed and I had two helpings of the cheeses quesadillas which were, Great! Handy as a transition hotel after such a long flight

The hotel was centrally located and the restaurant was very convenient to have on site. The room was basic, but it was clean and was a good temperature. The best part of the stay was the staff! Mauricio was very knowledgeable about the area and helpful when it came to our millions of questions about Costa Rica. I would definitely stay there again.
