Hotel Colonial CR

The hotel is quite noisy. The walls are thin, and sounds from other rooms and hallway activity are easily heard. Traffic noise becomes noticeable, loud horns and bells start early in the morning, which made restful sleep difficult.||While the hotel has some historic charm, it appears more appealing in photos than in person and feels dated once onsite.||Breakfast was included, but the quality was below expectations.||We were also concerned about room cleanliness upon arrival, as it did not feel thoroughly cleaned the first night. The room was improved the following day.||This hotel may work for a very short, one-night stay if options are limited, but we would not choose to stay here again.

We had a great experience here. The room was comfortable and the fan kept it nice and cool at night. The shower was great had plenty of hot water. Every staff member was was super helpful and friendly, especially the two front desk workers Justin and Sebastian who both spoke good English. Our flight was delayed so we got in a day late but they answered the phone promptly and changed our reservation for the next day with no hassle. Free breakfast was good. I will say the pool seemed more decorative than anything but other than that everything was great. You can pull up in front of the hotel for 15 minutes and they will explain where the parking garage is.

Good hotel for a good affordable price. Breakfast was good, staff and service were good, location was good. I recommend this place. My only issues were for some reason, in the middle of the night, the fire alarm in our room started beeping throughout that night. That, and we also found some ants on one of our beds. Anyways, a fine hotel!

I stayed only for 1 night during short trip to Costa Rica. Hotel location is quite nice - right in the city center and close to all main attractions. Builsding of the hotel is quite old and has nice architectural style. Check-in was also pretty fast and efficient and staff was friendly. However this is probably all positive things i can say about the hotel - as in general hotel is quite dated, pool although looking nice on pictures is not very welcoming, room - is very small, bathroom is inside the room only separated by the glass door, room is outdated and in the need of renovation. Breakfast - almost not existent - very limited offering. Also location - being quite central, doesn't feel safe - they are closing hotel door at all times during the day, so you need to ring to be allowed in, however even when you are leaving - you still need to ask reception to open the door as you can't open it even from inside. So all in all I would say that although it was fine for my 1 night stay as a solo traveller, I can't recommend it for any longer stays or any family stays.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Last night the ceiling fan came clean out of the ceiling on its own. On inspections it was clearly not secured into beams, just drywall. Whoever installed had no idea what they were doing now concern for safety. AND NEITHER DOES MANAGEMENT. They informed me they would only provide a 50% refund on the stay, and had nothing further to say when I expressed how injured I would have been if that fell on my head. I informed them I would file a complaint with booking.com and post negative reviews wherever possible, they did not seem to care

It was nice and pleasant. Clean and great value. I would stay here again. Staff was very nice and helpful. Parking was just a 1 minute walk around the corner for $10 per day. I felt safe and secure.

Lovely hotel situated in the centre of San Jose. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast is good and adequate. The meal at the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel does not have a lift.

Pros: Excellent AC, comfortable beds, cute room, good breakfast, close to China Town which has amazing food Cons: found sock in corner of my room, some hair in the bathroom. A bit noisy at night.
