I loved the historical aspect of this building! It has been around from the 1600s as a monetary and was converted into a hotel in the 1800s. It has the oldest working elevator in Puebla! A must to try ;). The rooms were very clean and the windows had exceptional sound proofing. There is no AC but we did not need one. The only issue I had was a mild smell that is usually in an old place like this. I had the most comfortable stay here!! Would recommend it to anyone who wants to go back in time for a bit :)

Very nice stay at this lovely old hotel. It’s in a great position in Puebla. Just bear in mind that it is an old hotel and very quirky. We had lovely room 212 which was very spacious. There was free water. The restaurant is formal but we only had breakfast there. Lovely roof top terrace for great views.

This is a beautiful classic hotel. It is rated 4-star for its historic value.||There is traditional table-cloth service in their restaurant. I was with a group and enjoyed the breakfast service very much.||The rooms are spacious, with tile floors, nice furniture and comfortable beds. Know that the rooms don’t have heating or air conditioning and the hotel does not provide space heaters. The room holds the cold because of the tile floor. You might want to think about bringing slippers if visiting in winter.|||I was first assigned room 125 on the ground level. When I opened the door, there was a strong moldy smell. I was disappointed as the room was nice. I was then given room 111 on the first level which was essentially the same design, but included a small balcony overlooking the hotel entrance. A friend was in room 212 on the second level which is a nice two level suite. This level has an atrium so gets natural light.||Bring a water bottle as there is a 5 gallon dispenser in each room for refills.||There are minimal TV stations, nothing in English. The hotel has|excellent and stable wi-fi.||If you are there on a Saturday or Sunday, a wonderful artisan and craft market opens just outside the front door and continues for 2 blocks. An antiques market begins about two blocks away.

Beautiful colonial style hotel. Came here for a week long conference and everything from the service to the hospitality was amazing. I will say the beds are a bit hard but I guess you get used to them after a bit of time. Location was in a very safe area with many shops and restaurants around. Thank you

Hotel Colonial is a beautiful old building in Puebla’s Centro Histórico. It is perfectly situated for exploring the city’s main attractions. We had a large room on the first floor overlooking a pedestrian square which was comfortable and well equipped although the shower flow was poor. The room was well insulated against outside noise but not against noise from other guests in the corridor. The hotel hosted several large tour groups the 4 nights we stayed there. There was a large bottle of drinking in every room.|Breakfast was tasty with a good choice but the service was appalling. Waiters sometimes disappeared from the dining room for several minutes and were very unresponsive. Language was not a problem - I speak Spanish. Coffee was instant as seems normal in Mexican hotels and was usually luke warm at best. Despite this we would recommend this hotel because of its location.

Location - great Food - medium Roof top view - beautiful Rooms - if You like XS size of bathroom, towels and shower… We had two single beds. Not comfortable at all. Bathroom very narrow, no hot water in the sink, and shower was simply a joke. Aesthetic style, not at all cozy atmosphere. I wouldn’t go again.

The hotel is an historic building in a great location. Just a block from the main square makes it easy to explore Puebla from here.||The public areas in the hotel were beautiful and in keeping with such traditional building.||Dating back to the 17th Century and as such has many interesting features as is well worth taking time to look around. To the left of the reception desk you can see one of Mexico’s oldest working elevators. We were lucky enough to take a ride in it.||Our room was on the smaller side but comfortable enough. (We were only here for one night otherwise we would have chosen a different room) We had an open plan bedroom with wash hand basin and clothes hanging space to one side. The WC and shower were accessed through a door next to this. The down side to this was having to come out of the WC to wash our hands. ||The room was very clean and had what we needed for a short stay but there was a shortage of sockets for charging multiple devices and work top space on which to put things. Likewise the area around the wash hand basin area could have been bigger.||The highlight of the Hotel was visiting the rooftop up a winding staircase from where there was a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. As the rooftop is dark you need to take care as there are differing levels with small step up /down. ||The staff were all extremely helpful.||We would have liked to have been able to stay longer and would certainly recommend the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. This was our second trip to Puebla and we were excited to return to the city and have the pleasure of staying in this glorious hotel.||The management of the hotel are very kind, Very attentive and thoroughly professional.||Our room was VERY comfortable and spacious. Very nice bathroom with shower and hot water!||We also highly recommend the restaurant in the hotel. The kitchen and the wait staff are very talented and professional. They excel in the preparation of specialties of Puebla: Mole Poblano, Chilaquiles de Mole||Also, there is a very lovely roof-top terrace with views of the city and of Popocatépetl, a magnificent volcano located southwest of the city.||We Highly recommend this hotel. ||Tom and Linda

Yelp
Lovely stay and hospitality. The hotel is historic and definitely old. Only three issues, keyless door entry didn't work properly, hot water and pressure was a challenge in the morning and rock hard beds. Suggest you shower in the evening. I would return. Ps. Only 5 local Puebla TV channels, all in Spanish.

Yelp
Great restaurant in the hotel. This restaurant is historical and a lot to see. We enjoy our lunch here with a guide from our tour guide. This restaurant serve one of the kind mole. The mole is put on the table with bread for dipping. Mmmmm. Delicious. I have the six courses meal for 248 Mexican peso. Great deal. Our first course is the local sweet wine with cheese. This is an interesting set up. My second course is the taco with green sauce. Love the taste. The third course is mix veggie soup. My four course is the tuna stuffed avocado. Interesting. My fifth course pork lion in Mexican chili sauce. The last course is flan. Love our time here. Service is excellent. Highly recommended.

Yelp

Yelp
This former monastery, constructed in 1698, welcomed me years ago on a chilly night when other hotels near the zócalo were booked. I remember nodding off to sleep in my small room even as a loud mariachi band serenaded guests in the restaurant off the lobby. I was glad to return to Hotel Colonial and find it all the same. I had a much larger room on this visit and it was refreshing to open the juliette balcony doors as the daily afternoon thunderstorms invigorated the air outside. The dramatic architectural feature at the hotel is the oval skylight above the restaurant that serves traditional regional fare. Upon my arrival, I had the restaurant to myself as it was prior to the arrival of the usual dinner crowd. After a long day of airports, buses and taxis, it was a pleasure to relax in silence over a plate of Mole Poblano. Hotel Colonial feels like a home away from home and I let my mind wander as I contemplated living here permanently.

Yelp
Hotel Colonial has a restaurant, which I visited when I was in Puebla. What a mistake. The hotel is beautiful, and they have a fancy dining room in the courtyard. The restaurant had plenty of tables for lunch with lots of servers. But it was INCREDIBLY slow. After 15 minutes, he said it was going to be another 15 minutes for lunch. I had been stressed since we sat down, because they presented us with a 5 course menu. Blech. We ordered from the a la carte menu, and it took forever. Lunch finally arrived. DM had huevos (poached) with mole poblano. Their mole was delish - dark red, rich and tons of flavor - but it was on toast rather than the advertised tortillas. I had the chalupas, which are a poblano specialty. Five silver dollar sized tortillas were fried in oil until crisp on the edges but still soggy in the middle. Three were topped with salsa verde and two with salsa rojo and they were all finished with shredded chicken. I think that I would have preferred these crisp rather than just oil logged - I wonder if this is how chalupas are supposed to me. Plus, I was miserable because I just wanted to move on. I could not believe how slow this place was. Skip it.

Yelp
My wife and I, are on a road trip from Guadalajara to Morelia and now at Puebla. We have to say that Puebla and the Hotel Colonial are the best from all the hotels we have stayed. The kitchen/resteraunt is the best food we have ever had and Edmundo our server gave us excellent service. The hotel staff are outstanding in service and we will be back to Puebla and this fine hotel. Also, you need to go to the roof to see the whole city they call it the "Mirador."

Yelp
What makes Colonial special is that they have a different home menu every day. And I love how they like to experiment. The mole poblano is always amazing! Don't hesitate this is a great place, but sometimes they fail in flavor, and sometimes they excel, nevertheless the experience is worth it!

Yelp
The Hotel Colonial has been around for 120 years. I have been staying here since the late 1980's when I first started traveling around MEXICO. The rooms are roomy with super high ceilings, some with balconies, beds are super comfortable, and the rooms are quiet despite being right in the center, and the front desk is professional and aims to please. Daniel Perez, the daytime manager is excellent. There are many good looking hotels in Puebla but none beats the service, space, value and warmth of Hotel Colonial!

Yelp
Former monastery near the zocalo is excellent. Stayed here back in '83 with my Dad. Excellent restaurant where I ate chalupas. Service is excellent. Would both return and recommend.
