Yelp
Hotel Colonial has a restaurant, which I visited when I was in Puebla. What a mistake. The hotel is beautiful, and they have a fancy dining room in the courtyard. The restaurant had plenty of tables for lunch with lots of servers. But it was INCREDIBLY slow. After 15 minutes, he said it was going to be another 15 minutes for lunch. I had been stressed since we sat down, because they presented us with a 5 course menu. Blech. We ordered from the a la carte menu, and it took forever.
Lunch finally arrived. DM had huevos (poached) with mole poblano. Their mole was delish - dark red, rich and tons of flavor - but it was on toast rather than the advertised tortillas. I had the chalupas, which are a poblano specialty. Five silver dollar sized tortillas were fried in oil until crisp on the edges but still soggy in the middle. Three were topped with salsa verde and two with salsa rojo and they were all finished with shredded chicken. I think that I would have preferred these crisp rather than just oil logged - I wonder if this is how chalupas are supposed to me. Plus, I was miserable because I just wanted to move on. I could not believe how slow this place was.
