How to Explore Glenwood Springs, Colorado

"Hotel Colorado is legendary in the state — it first opened in 1893, has hosted the likes of Teddy Roosevelt and William Taft, and continues to offer a level of hospitality that is unparalleled in the area. Rooms are newly renovated and include both straightforward hotel-style rooms and multi-room suites with balconies." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Spent one night here for my birthday with my wife with a Hot Springs package. We arrived by train from Denver and took the hotel shuttle to the hotel. Driver was fantastic and friendly. The hotel was gorgeous but in need of an upgrade. The front desk was welcoming and helpful. The room was nice but the windows would not close and bugs entered thru the window in the bed area as did the highway noise. Only 2 elevators that I could find and they were slow. Hallways in upper floors were extremely wide but had very little furniture so it felt very odd walking down them. Bar and restaurant were available but my only issue was the closing time… it was too early. Monday Night Football was on and they were calling last call in middle of 3rd quarter. In the morning, the lobby area was extremely cold and drafty. Coffee shop had some of the best coffee I’ve had in ages. Glad we stayed there for history’s sake but will stay somewhere else the next time we are in town.

I booked on a discount website so for under $200 it was well worth the price. We stayed one night. The room was a nice blend of modern and historic. The bed was nice, pillows were thick. No AC but the fan was strong and didn’t make any noise. Radiator heat for winters. The shower was okay, a little mold in the caulk but decent for a historic hotel. It felt updated and clean. Location can’t be beat, easy walk to downtown across a pedestrian bridge.

I loved all the historic aspects of this hotel. Great central location, less than a mile from almost everything you'd need or want during your stay. I also really appreciated the hotel's family quiet hours from 10pm-8am. My room overlooked the entrance of the hotel and had an amazing view of the mountains. The staff were friendly and helpful, but I did have to wait in a long line when checking in. What I didn't love is they charge $15 per night for parking in their designated parking lots. I don't agree with charging guests for parking. Designated permit parking is great, but if you're already paying to stay there, don't charge me for parking on top of the other fees. There is some free parking around the hotel, but it was hard to find a spot as many other people were parking in the free areas. The bed and pillows in my room were very comfortable, which I appreciated, but overall, the room had some disappointing aspects. The Keurig machine didn't work properly - I tried it twice - and both times it spit out a lot of grounds into the coffee. One of the coffee mugs provided in the room was very dirty. The bathroom floor didn't look clean, some of the towels had stains, and the bath mat was very ragged. The water pressure in the shower was quite low and the water never got hot, even after 15 minutes. I followed the instructions given (wait 5-7 minutes for water to heat up due to hotel's old heating system). I was fine with waiting, but even after that timeframe it didn't get past lukewarm so I didn't want to waste anymore water and started my shower. Also tried the shower at a different time the next day just to see if it would be different (maybe less people using at that time) but had the same experience.

I'm going to break down the Hotel Colorado into 2 bits here, one as the historical tourist destination and the other as a hotel experience. The Hotel itself is rich in history and is beautifully well maintained on both the outside and the main halls. The lobby and outdoor garden are just absolutely breathtaking. I could spend a good hour or two just reading the history all over the place. Honestly it is a must not miss experience for any history lover. Now as for staying at the hotel, let's begin with the fact staying at the Hotel Colorado is not cheap - its not my first pick but everyone said try it can't be beat so I figured ok, I'll do it for the experience.... And I sadly found it lacking. Honestly I should have slowed down more maybe read the fine print a bit, so I won't blame the hotel for my lack of reading more closely. But as a hotel the Hotel Colorado is...just not quite there: -Pay for your parking, alright that is fine, it is not uncommon practice. -No breakfast provided on a already moderately pricy menu. (2$ upcharge on extra flavor for coffee seemed....odd?) -The rooms vary in benefits and ammenties, some rooms have mini fridges (hearsay) , ours didn't, no AC's are installed at this time of year which can be off putting for any hot sleepers out there. -The rooms were neat and clean, and matched the time period but they seemed....empty. -Bathrooms were clean, generous ammenties provided there. -The Hotel Colorado boasts close access to food, shopping and the nearby springs (of which you either need to buy a hotel bundle to access or pay at the front door/website just fyi) Overall it was comfortable and quiet and clean, and the staff were incredible and so nice, but the stay just didn't feel like it fit the price ticket you know, it just needed something a bit more. So as a tourist spot - easily 4.5 lovely staff, lovely building, amazing As a stay 3.5 - unless you are there for the novelty or ghost hunting (of which I did not see any haha)

Our stay was wonderful, and a big part of that was thanks to Jill at the front desk. From the moment we walked in, she was warm, friendly, and genuinely inviting. We had a small issue during our stay and she took care of it immediately with such professionalism and kindness. She goes above and beyond for guests, and you can tell she truly enjoys what she does. Jill is an absolute joy and a great example of excellent customer service!

Google
Hotel steeped in history. Beautiful historic hotel. Large room and a great bed. Pillows could be upgraded they where a little lumpy. I love that they have real coffee cups in room. Makes the difference for me. Bathroom was fine. Facuts in sink where tricky because you had water both ways you turned them. If not just right it dripped. Didn't try the shower as this was just a 1 overnight.

eric S.

Google
Jill at the front desk was a joy to speak with and had a wealth of information on the hotel. I enjoyed the comfort of my room and the new features like the flat screen TV and Keurig machine! The historic lobby was wonderful and the bar was delightful but hotel rooms are still extremely noisy with slamming doors, running children and crying babies but I used my ear plugs! My suggestion is that this hotel should make at least one floor ADULTS-ONLY and make it the fourth floor and the penthouse fifth floor also so as to avoid the hall-running children noises.

I would like to convey my severe disappointment in my recent stay here. We booked a classic king room. According to the description, we were supposed to get a room with a mountain view. Instead, we got a room with a small high window that had an up close view of the roof and nothing else. The walls were bare and there were large cracks in the ceilings and the walls. We tried to upgrade rooms but the hotel staff was very dismissive. Although the room was the greatest disappointment, the food service in the main restaurant was also poor. They also allow dogs to stay here which I get is becoming more socially acceptable however people's dogs were running rampant throughout their beautiful lobby and kept jumping up on us and the couches. We love dogs and have some of our own, but find this poor behavior extremely annoying and disrespectful. I would expect more of people choosing to stay here. Considering we forked out over 350$/per night, I would never come back

Yelp
Unsinkable Molly Brown ... this hotel is a quaint piece of Americana. Frequented the restaurant and bar a few times on my trips to Glenwood over the years. But, this time (2024) I noticed a portrait of the ONE woman amidst a sea of men along the hallway walls boasting "infamous" guests. It was the unsinkable Molly Brown. She stood out to me, because it was the day after Intn'l women's day. But as I read her plaque, I was immediately disappointed. Molly's plaque just noted that she was living off her husband's wealth from a mining claim and was a frequent hotel guest "socialite." Nowhere did they happen to mention that that she... was one of the few survivors of the Titanic who also worked tirelessly to help other survivors. She established a Survivor's Committee, promoted women's rights and become the first woman to run for congress in 1914. Oh, and she helped erect the Titanic Memorial, established a WWI relief station for soldiers, and was awarded the French Legion of Honor. (https://leadville.com/how-molly-brown-became-unsinkable/) Would love to see the hotel post a more apt description to represent the only woman I could see on their walls. And, if they do, I would be happy to raise them a star/two on this review.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time at Hotel Colorado. My boyfriend and I stayed for the weekend with our dog and it was a great experience. My boyfriend booked us a suite with a balcony which I highly recommend. Our room was spacious and beautiful. The hotel has antique furniture in the bedrooms and throughout the hotel. The hotel is currently having issues with their AC so each room has temporary window units. Between the window AC units and the ceiling fans the room's temperature was very comfortable. We dined at the Colorado Hotel Restaurant in the outdoor patio area. On Saturdays from 6 to 8 they have live music. Which really elevates the dining experience. My only issue is they did not allow our dog in the outdoor dining patio area. This is a very dog friendly hotel but we could not sit with our dog outside and dine. The front courtyard of the hotel is a great hangout spot to have drinks and relax. In the evenings it can get pretty busy. Overall I highly recommend trying this place out.

Vera B.

Yelp
Oh boy , how should I start this? Not good value for money. Room carpet looked dirty . No where to set any toiletries in bathroom. Noisy air conditioning unit in window. Walls and trim in bedrooms need painted. Exposed water sprinkler system pipes in ceiling gives an industrial look. Every time the air came on, lights blinked. Bed and pillows pretty good. We will not be return for a second visit. Just not for us.

Traci L.

Yelp
Yes its a beautiful historic hotel, but for what they charge you should be able to have a place to put toiletries in the bathroom, have a soft close toilet seat and be able to dry your hair without having to turn off the AC because you might blow a fuse. Small details matter and its definitely overpriced.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
The place is definitely historic but outside of that the fun stops. The rooms are nicely decorated but window unit air conditioners stink. It would have been nice to open the window at night when it got cool but you can't. Plus the window units are loud and run all night long. The showers have to run at least 7 minutes before they get warm. They at least tell you that up front. The breakfast was way over priced and service was dreadfully slow. It's close to the hot springs but that's the only positive.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Loved this hotel, so much history. Restaurant for breakfast was fantastic. A short walk over a pedestrian bridge and we were in town. Close to the hot springs, and white water rafting.

Timothy B.

Yelp
We love this place and will definitely stay again when we next pass thru. The food is great and relatively reasonable for hotel dining. They offer room service till 10 pm and we took advantage of that both nights we were here (split stay). The building seems well maintained and the staff (though seemingly small) were all very helpful and friendly. The bell staff could use more training. The sprinkler pipes and data cables in the halls are unfortunate. The modernization could have been better with perhaps false beams or piers to hide these. Beautiful place. Just needs a cash infusion.

Yelp
I sued to come here as a little girl and now I come with my mom each summer. It has turned into a tradition and we absolutely love it. It is a historic hotel, and they keep that charm. If you don't like historic places and are picky about things being older, then this isn't the place for you. But if you have respect and appreciation for Colorado's finer things, then this place is a must. They have renovated historic rooms. I love the older rooms. They have history and elegance you don't find anymore. You feel like you are part of a story. On our last visit, we stayed in the Molly Brown Suite. It was incredible. If you want to go big and upgrade to a suite, it is worth it here! This room had a bedroom, mini kitchen, bathroom, dining room, sitting room, and two balconies! There was a ton of space. It is also said to be a haunted room, but we slept like babies and didn't see any ghosts. ;) Might I add this is one of the best views in Glenwood from the rooftop balcony in this suite? On a past visit, we stayed in the Roosevelt Suite. This was a really special room as well that overlooked the garden. Roosevelt once spoke right from the patio off this room. Many presidents and famous people have stayed here throughout the years. I just can't speak to how special it is. The hotel is steps away from Glenwood Hotsprings, Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves, Downtown Glenwood, and a short drive from Iron Mountain Hot Springs. It doesn't get better when it comes to location. You can walk just about anywhere and have a relaxing vacation in the mountains. They have a restaurant and bar onsite which is exquisite. I choose to stay on property for all of my meals when we visit because we just haven't had better food than this. They also have a beautiful backyard /patio /garden where you can dine in the summer. It is beautifully strung with white lights and has a coy pond with a waterfall trickling in the background. It is super relaxing and the staff is AMAZING. Best customer service ever! The hotel IS DOG FRIENDLY so you can bring your furry family along. There is parking included in your stay, a coffee spot on site, and the whole place just makes you feel right at home. Choose Hotel Colorado on your next visit to Glenwood!

Yelp
What you need to know: 1)You can't control the AC in the room. There's an old school heater that's it. 2)It's takes 7-10 minutes to get warm/hot water they tell you upon booking the higher floor you're on the longer it'll take, we got the second floor and it still took about 7-10 minutes. Probably because it's an old school steamer making the water hot but the hot water came out white/foggy. 3) they say the third floor is haunted so if you like ghosts or don't like them that's a heads up. 4) the rooms don't bring a microwave/fridge but you can request it. The fireplace is decor only. 5) the walls/floors are thin. We could hear the upstairs guests walking around and we could hear the music from downstairs. There's about 2-3 halls where companies can hold parties. They have a sign about family quiet time 10pm-8am but that doesn't Apple to the parties. 6) the tub was absolutely disgusting the caulking had black mold and all of it was stained. One of our coffee mugs had dry coffee inside so it wasn't cleaned properly either. 7) the restaurant food was okay, not bad but definitely not worth the $80 we paid for a burger and pasta. 8) they do offer shuttles and room service

Danielle S.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've had the displeasure of staying at. These rooms are not well ventilated. The whole hotel is not well ventilated. If you have to take a dump in your hotel room, your entire room will smell. Don't spray aerosols inside the room either. No pool. No mini fridge. No safe in the rooms either. You also have to pay $15 a day for parking. This hotel is only good for show. I understand its historic value, but I can't rate this place any lower... not when I can get better for cheaper. Update: their small, cheap AC units turn off and kick back on very loudly multiple times in the night. Good luck trying to get any sleep as well.

Yelp
Stunningly beautiful property with loads of charm and history. Across the street from the famous hot springs. Loved it so much, we stayed an extra night. Pet and people friendly!

Yelp
We decided on a spontaneous getaway & had an incredible check-in experience thanks to Joyanne! She's undoubtedly one of the finest hotel employees I've ever encountered, w/ her kindness & helpful tips about the area and her passion for her job shining through. Employees like Joyanne make me want to return over & over again. Also, the recent remodel is stunning - the rooms are truly amazing. We stumbled upon the tree lighting ceremony by chance & it was perfect. I adore this festive hallmark holiday atmosphere! Thanks to everyone & especially Joyanne. Yelp
Loved our recent stay at the Hotel Colorado. Our room was clean and we appreciated the charm and atmosphere - which we prefer over staying somewhere that feels sterile, bland, and modern. We popped our heads into some of the areas being upgraded on the first floor and talked with some of the construction crew, and we were so happy to see the old world charm isn't being lost. We really enjoyed reading all the blurbs and looking at the historical photos on the walls. We enjoyed a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant and the servers could not have been more attentive and friendly. The front desk staff were helpful when we had questions, and the maintenance staff was more than helpful when we were having an issue with our TV, which turned out to be operator error - he had a good laugh with us about it. The hotel allows pets and I enjoyed seeing all the well mannered pups in the lobby and on the beautiful grounds. The hotel is short walk from downtown Glenwood and various hot spring locations. I will definitely return here.

Yelp
It was like my dad's first apartment after the divorce. The rooms need to be updated. Our room was really outdated, had dust everywhere, barely any pictures on the wall, and no full length mirror. The tub was really gross and the window air conditioner covered nearly the whole window. It was like a sad bachelor pad. Not worth the price tag. We came for a wedding at the venue and, although the invitation, and the HC catering menu, said vegetarian by request, I asked for the meal and the staff just pointed to the buffet. They said I would be able to have beans and salad. The beans weren't vegetarian so there wasn't anything to east except potato salad and salad. I went to the room after the wedding hungry. I'm sure the bride and groom paid a lot for the catering and venue, the least the hotel could do was make their guests experience better.

Yelp
Hotel Colorado is undergoing renovations and they have placed a/c units in all the windows to keep the rooms cool. With that said, I had a pleasant enough stay sans no water for about an hour. The desk clerk said it was something with the city and it would be back on shortly. It was and I wasn't put out because it was about 7:30 pm and not am. The HC is old, cool and haunted, love it! The food is fabulous and the barkeep pours a mean drink. Literally across the street from the hot springs and less than a mile away from Iron Mountain, it's the perfect location for a water baby like myself.

Joni J.

Yelp
Hi I was kinda excited about staying in a historical hotel. The front desk person was not cordial at all. She appeared to be training someone, which in this case, I hope he doesn't take pointers from her. The bellman seemed more interested in making our stay nice. We went to the lounge for a wine and we were greeted by an awesome lady running the place. She was just so upbeat we decided to go ahead and have a burger...which was quite tasty with fresh French fries. Our room was fine. Everything worked fine. If you are looking for upscale in Glenwood Springs you will most likely not find it here!

Yelp
Housekeeping and hotel maintenance needs work. Upon check-in our room had what appears to be hairballs from the previous guest all over the couch. The swing bar lock on the door was completely broken off. Booking our room over the phone was a huge pain due to not being able to get a hold of anyone at the hotel. We needed to book using an event code and all calls seem to be routed to an offshore Booking.com call center that is completely useless.

Deirdre O.

Yelp
Grand old hotel with the worst customer service I've ever seen. The rooms are a little shabby, and amenities are scarce, but the building was striking and historic and I really wanted to love it. Three days into our stay, though, the hotel overbooked our room and gave us three hours to leave, which we felt was hectic as we were on a mountain an hour away but of course respected. As I was heading to my room to pack before the deadline we'd been given, a woman with the worst attitude I've ever seen in the guest service industry (as someone who works in it myself) stopped me and said she'd called security on my father and I because our items were still in the rooms we'd been told we had another 45 minutes to vacate. After lecturing me for a few minutes as I tried to explain the situation, she stormed off. I discovered my key access had been taken and I had to get maintenance, who were extremely accusatory, to let me back into my room to retrieve my things. I 100% understand that mistakes happen and rooms get double booked, but I can't get past the terrible customer service and handling of the situation. The manager at the time handled things very calmly when we finally got in touch, which was a breath of fresh air, but my overall impression of the stay is still absolutely awful. Book next door if you can.

Yelp
I only ever walked around the property. It is absolutely beautiful. If this Hotel was in a city, it would be such a hot spot to go out to.

Donna R.

Yelp
Walking into the lobby of the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs is like going back in time. You expect gun-carrying cowboys to be leaning against the bar or Teddy Roosevelt to walk in through the main lobby. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms full of history and charm. My husband and I have been several times and never been disappointed. The restaurant downstairs offers great food and even better service. The staff at the hotel is kind and have taken many pictures for us. If its authenticity you want, be sure and book a room here. We will be back!

Yelp
The Hotel Colorado has hired a new manager named Kellen who is just awful!!! The hotel has gone way down hill in just the 2 months since she has been there!!!! the hotel looks pretty from the outside but it run with no integrity, organization, common courtesy (try getting them on the phone more than once) and is dishonest as well!! Some of my ski gear was left at the hotel because the previous manager, Streeter Bowen, offered very clearly and concretely to mail them home to me as a service the hotel provides. Not only did I not receive the items, but no one bothered to tell me Mr. Bowen quit a few days after I left, and after repeated attempts to locate my belongings , over and over again I was told they were "mailed" for weeks! Until the NEW manager, KELLEN, FINALLY admitted, now a month later, that they never mailed them at all!!!!!! I told her that at this point, since I was coming back to Colorado in early March, I they may as well hold onto the gear and I would pick them up myself. She assured me it was in a safe place right in her office! Another lie. All of my ski gear has gone "missing" and instead of telling me this, Kellen simply stopped returning my phone calls. I had to hear it from one of the staff at the hotel that they were either lost or stolen. The Hotel Colorado made no attempts to apologize (except for the poor staffer) or compensate me for any of the items-a ski coat, ski pants, gloves and hat alone cost me hundreds of dollars to replace. IShe just decided to ignore the entire situation. If you call the hotel and get their answering machine, which you will, because they must be understaffed and it is nearly impossible to get an actual human being on the phone, and it goes to the manager's voicemail, you will still hear Streeter Bowen's voice, which is why I spend many hours of frustrating attempts to reach HIM inn order to find out what happened to my gear!!! The place is a disaster under the new management!!

Yelp
This place lies through its teeth. On top f that the hotel is cheap, everything is outdated especially the showers. The food in the restaurant is airplane quality food but they charge $50 a head. This place is cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Yet expensive. Book elsewhere

Amy W.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for decades. We visited again this weekend, hoping to dine at the restaurant. Sadly, this place has really gone downhill. The lobby was dirty, the gardens neglected, and they were severely understaffed. This place used to be pristine and gorgeous, totally worth the expense of staying there. Now there is filth everywhere you look. And before management claps back and says, this was a holiday weekend - yes, it was a holiday weekend, but the level of grime we witnessed could only accumulate over YEARS. Dust, stains, rips in the carpets, greasy film, wrinkled curtains. The gardens were similarly sad, filled with more weeds than flowers. Why has this hotel become so shittified? It's sad because the history of the hotel is deep and it used to be magnificent. Whoever owns and manages this place is clearly struggling to maintain it. Get it together, or do us all a favor and pass the baton to someone more capable. I noticed the high prices haven't changed at all - imagine that. I'm giving two stars only because the staff we talked to were understanding, compassionate and awesome despite their obviously challenging work environment. Whatever is going on at the Hotel Colorado, it's not the employees fault. This looks like years and years and years of neglect. How sad.

Yelp
If you're looking for a luxury hotel the Colorado is not for you. If you want a charming hotel with a clean room and great service than you will be happy here. Plus the restaurant is great for breakfast and dinner. The court yard is very nice with fountains, flowers and rustic Adirondack chairs to enjoy the great vibe of the courtyard. Rooms don't look Victorian they just look old but they are clean. There are ugly pipes and wires on the ceiling from retrofitting an old building with fire sprinklers and cable tv. Things that Teddy Rosevelt or Molly Brown didn't have when they stayed here. You can't beat the location and the price. They are renovation rooms so low prices won't last long.

Water G.

Yelp
Evening front desk is grumpy from behind the mask, which seems to be a prop. The food is a bland yawn worthy experience. Go downtown to eat. The sheets are thin and wad up while you're in bed. The housekeeping staff are loud from early morning until they finally go home. No respect for the sleeping guests. Evening "entertainment " isn't entertaining at all. For a historic hotel it doesn't try to impress on any level. This place must survive simply due to the hot springs across the street. I won't be returning.

Yelp
As a native-born (6gen+) Coloradoan, the Roaring Fork holds fond memories for me. Coming back to Hotel Colorado has been a sweet reunion. They are renovating rooms, so I'm looking fwd to seeing the historic bldg take on new life. In the meantime, I'll enjoy using "Glenwood's living room" as my remote office away from home. I will definitely be back anytime I need to get away from Denver to find my balance again *aka work, hot spring'n, and R&R*.

Todd T.

Yelp
Hotel Colorado is one of the best places in Colorado! Recently, I traveled through Glenwood Springs on the way out to Fruita, CO. The staff has "old school" customer service, the employees care like people did before the interwebs. Our kids loved that it was adjacent to the hot springs, the location can't get much better. The last night we stayed, we were jammed for time and ended up eating at their courtyard restaurant (Hotel Colorado Restaurant and Bar). The food was exceptional. We ordered dessert--which only happens if the dinner is off the charts! We would definitely stay here again. I would highly recommend it.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
I had an amazing time here! The hospitality at the front desk was great, the history of this hotel is also incredible and the courtyard experience at night was beautiful. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back :)

Charlotte B.

Yelp
Overpriced for the condition it is in. Says restored in 2022. Bath tub I would not sit in. Shower curtain was ragged. Front desk was pleasant. Outdoor sitting area nice. Very steep steps to get in front door. No attendant to help with luggage. Not good.

Yelp
Checked in to Hotel Colorado for one night using American Express miles. Should have taken a cue from the woman in front of us who was complaining about spending $450 a night for a dirty room and was checking out early. We got into our room on the 4th floor, and since they are doing renovations, they put us in a room under a room having work done. Bang, bang, bang bang, non stop. Ask to move to another room, now this room is bigger but no AC and only a double sized bed. Only a ceiling fan. No amenities whatsoever (coffee maker, blow dryer, etc).. No screen on the window so if we left it open, we'd get a welcoming of Colorado bugs in our room. THIRD ROOM! Now upgraded to a King Suite, which is nice. Full kitchen and a coffee maker. But again, no AC and no screens on 2 of the 3 windows. At thus point, we are too tired to go back downstairs for a 4th room! Tried returning luggage cart, waited for 3 elevators, each one was full with construction guys moving stuff around. I understand needing to do renovations but close off an entire section of the hotel and do the renovation away from paying customers! Also restaurant isn't open today or tomorrow, sign posted saying they are short staffed. Hoping they can get their business in order soon so they don't lose too many customers!

Angelo V.

Yelp
One of the best places I've ever stayed at, Chris the maintenance guy is awesome and so is everyone at the front desk. We were told Ashley the bartender was nice but we encountered a completely different experience with her. She was very rude and disrespectful (even when the bar was completely empty). I'd love to stay at the hotel again but I will not spend my hard earned money with someone like her.

Daniel T.

Yelp
If you want to see history, I would recommend this hotel. The basic rooms need remodeling. The place is old, there is tons of "Character." The building is Beautiful, and I have stayed. But, I do not know if I would book again. I would recommend staying here at least once if Visiting Glenwood Springs!

Deborah W.

Yelp
We had a fabulous dinner there the other night, December 14th--it was my Christmas gift to my partner. We started with drinks in the bar and the bartender was wonderful. The drinks were perfectly made. Our dinner server, Jeremy, was the bartender's brother and treated us royally, with fun. The courtyard is so beautifully decorated. A holiday treat for us Glenwood residents!

Nicole N.

Yelp
Overall my experience was great. Did have a housekeeper enter my room without knocking. But it was shortly after I checked in, so they might not have been aware there was anyone assigned to the room. Also, when I purchased a bottle of soda from the Legends coffee shop, it had an expire date of Nov 2022. I only ate breakfast at the restaurant and it was delicious.

Yelp
I am literally laying in the bed of room 444 of Hotel Colorado right now, it is 6am and I am awake for the 5th time since 10pm. My sleep interruptions include patrons literally racing in the hallways (woke up to stomping followed by "I win!"-- congratulations, Baxter), mysterious tapping and rattling coming from the heater, and now a dog barking. I repeat, it is 6am. I returned to the hotel after exploring the charming town of Glenwood Springs and hoped to shower and settle for the night. My shower never reached past luke warm. The hotel won my attention with the appeal of the historic charm, my room was described to have two queen beds and a sitting area. Allow me to confirm the "sitting area" consists of-- a chair. I would've given this hotel 1 star, but the truth is, it is beautiful and conveniently positioned close to the town restaurants and hot springs. But I assure you my stay was a single, dusty star.

Yelp
Stayed here on Sept. 9 and 10 2023. Never again. We have stayed before and had a positive experience. This time we had 2 rooms booked, one of them for our friends. Our friend broke her arm and couldn't go. We canceled her room 5 days before our reservation. My wife and I went and we had no problems. Get home and discovered they still charged our card for the room we didn't use. When you call this hotel to make a reservation you are automatically directed to a booking service rooms.com. The Visa bill showed booking.com, a different company. We got the run around from everyone trying to get our refund for the one room. Definitely some shenanigans going on between these two companies. To top it off Jose at the front desk was extremely rude and condescending. Spent 4 hours trying to get a refund with no success. Calling our credit card company to dispute the charge. Beware of booking a room with this hotel!!!!

Yelp
A historical hotel that is well maintained with historical artwork on display. Hotel is just next to hot springs and within walking distance to most restaurants. When visiting this place, it was going through upgrade to their rooms so I believe starting 2023, this place will look fabulous. Plenty of photos of Teddy Roosevelt on the walls. Free shuttle available to residents across the town. Lovely restaurant for bunch as well. I saw plenty of people here doing workation with laptops on in lobby. Overall a great escape from my busy schedule.

Yelp
One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a hotel. We arrived at 7pm to the hotel where we waited over 30 mins to reach the check in desk. One person was working, other patrons in line made jokes like "The check in technology is as old as the hotel". Other people just left the line. When I finally got to the check out counter. I didn't have my license on me. However my wife had hers and we have same name, address, email etc. The person wearing a mask behind the desk stated she could not give me the room I booked. Didn't offer any suggestions at all, like could we simply put the reservation in my wife's name??? I repeatedly asked for a manager and they repeatedly said they were a supervisor and nobody else was there. I stayed at the hotel next door and did the Hot Springs instead where I got no issues. Very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Hotel is cool and vintage, out door bar was nice with the nice garden lounging. Don't expect a modern experience or ghost encounters. I had one of the haunted rooms and nothing which was nice.

Yelp
Location is excellent. Hotel is old but charming. What lacks is any attention from hotel staff. My son had a health emergency, and because we are not from the area we asked for assistance in arranging transport to an urgent care center. The front desk staff were rude and disinterested, showing a total lack of empathy for a suffering 8 year old boy. I was shocked. I strongly recommend another of the many fine hotels that exist in Glenwood Springs.

Yelp
very dated rooms, beds were comfy. bathroom was horrible. room description states it sleeps six, however the bathroom was maybe 15 ft^2. not impressed.

Yelp
AVOID STAYING HERE. Front desk staff and the supervisors are RUDE and condescending, and the place is old and dingy. They surprised me with a $50 pet fee and put me in a dingy room near an busy and loud elevator. When I asked to switch, two different people told me the hotel was 80% occupied perhaps to infer that my request wouldn't be possible without even looking. When they couldn't find another room (although they did pitch a room with a smaller bed that would have been the same price) i asked how much it would cost to just walk away. The supervisor said $68. I said fine. But then a minute later he says oh, it's actually the full price of the room. He was so rude about it that when he asked if he could "run my card" I said fine. I probably would have stayed in the room with the smaller bed if the entire staff - including the Supervisor - wasn't so damn rude. I wouldn't even mind how old and dingy the place is. But I refuse to stay somewhere where I'm treated like that and you should too.

Yelp
My family and I have stayed here since I was in elementary school sometimes a couple times a month! The new owners have really brought this place downhill. This room me and my fiancée got is a renovated 1st floor room and it looks nice ish but the bathroom isn't done at all it's clearly very old. The windows don't lock and don't have a screen even though we are on the first floor! They also installed the bathroom door knob wrong so the lock is on the outside and you can lock someone into the bathroom and the pipes are a huge eyesore. Oh also the shower screams at us when we use it we assume because it doesn't make a clean connection . It's sad to see something I remember to be very clean now in ruins hope things get fixed and back to normal if not better than this.

Yelp
Visited during Covid. They had mask requirements whenever you were out of your room. It's was beautifully decorated for the holiday season and had a ton of lights! Staff was polite and greeted us whenever we were in the lobby. Our room however was a bit underwhelming. There were 4 of us and we got a room with 3 beds. It was very tight. There was no coffee pot. The doors for the cabinet with the TV did not slide in. Overall there were several cosmetic things that could have been easily fixed (like carpet stains and broken tiles) despite the age of the hotel. My biggest complaint was the towel rack by the mirror. It make it impossible to use the space. Plus, it was one of 3!!! We also never got the televisions to work. It was right across the bridge from the main strip so it made for easy access to the hot springs and shopping/eating.

Yelp
We took the Amtrak train to Glenwood Springs, walked to the Hotel Colorado. The receptionist greeted up as soon as we walked in gave us to the keys to our rooms. The rooms were super cute and charming. We always enjoy the stay at Hotel Colorado, this time was especially nice since they decorated for the holidays.

Yelp
Avoid this hotel at all costs. The management is incredibly horrible and rude. It's a very historic hotel with many family memories over the decades. We have had a big family annual gathering at this hotel for literally decades. We booked 6 rooms here back in March 2021 (3 months prior) and paid. We were informed a week prior to our trip that our reservations have been CANCELED because they "overbooked" the hotel. This is undoubtedly because when we booked the price was much lower due to coming out of Covid and they have since realized they can book these rooms to other people at their new higher prices (over double). Our family is beyond disgusted with this trash hotel and their rude greedy management team. After over 50 years of staying every summer at this hotel, we will sadly no longer be supporting such poor behavior especially after last year. I encourage others to avoid as well so they don't fall to the same greed we have. It's outdated and and the lack of upkeep is present. We only continued to stay here due to the history it has.

Yelp
It is a charming old grand hotel. The beds and linens are great. But the rooms are awkwardly fitted out with "modern" plumbing. There is one small elevator. I loved sitting in the courtyard reading! I was thinking the charm of the place balanced the high price--until I realized there was no complimentary coffee in the morning. I will never come back. Really? Even Econo-Lodge has free coffee in the morning!

Yelp
This hotel is falling apart. I've been to crappy old hotels that have been saved and transformed by exemplary service. That is not the case here. The service is also abysmal. As I write this it is 9am on a Sunday morning in August, the lobby is full of tired guests looking for caffeine, and the sole coffee shop is inexplicably closed again, as it has been off and on all weekend. The only option for coffee was the burned coffee at the restaurant. It took 30 minutes to obtain 3 to-go coffees for a cost of $12. And they taste awful. Pretty emblematic of the whole experience to be honest.

Yelp
Stayed here in 2018, so it could be improved. But I think folks should know about our experience. We checked out early in the middle of the night because we found bugs in our room (specifically in the bed) and it was impossible to sleep through the night without getting bitten. There were holes in the screens, so that's probably why. Like others have said, it general the rooms are in really bad shape. My parents were in the Roosevelt suite and it was gorgeous, we wanted to love our stay. I loved the historic and spooky vibe, and the lobby is gorgeous. But they really need to invest in the room quality and cleanliness.

Yelp
This hotel is old. You have to understand that before booking here and adjust your expectations accordingly. Even though it is old, our room was clean. That is what I look for in a hotel, it has to be clean, nothing else really matters before that. There were some stains and chips and dents, etc. but it was still clean and trust me I have seen some filthy hotel rooms. The rooms have in the window AC units. This was huge because the high for the day was 95! It cooled our little room off perfectly. Bedding was a little rough, they could invest in some higher quality bed linens. Also note that there are minimal electrical outlets. I had to charge my phone in the bathroom! This location is great and right within walking distance of the hot springs and the downtown area. Being able to walk everywhere is useful because parking at the hotel is sparse and I didn't want to loose my parking spot! It was a little pricey but I would stay here again mainly for the location.
