"Why we love it: A raucous stay where historic details meet a modern party scene Highlights: - A thrilling backstory full of gangsters and ghosts - Regular programming like reenactments of John Dillinger’s downfall - A lively scene, complete with a nightclub and several dining outlets The Review: Built in 1919 for travelers on the Southern Pacific Railroad, this landmark hotel embraces the energy of Tucson’s vibrant downtown—and the noise that comes with it. L.A.-based architects William and Alexander Curlett renovated the property—which is known for being the site of the Dillinger Gang capture in 1934—but took care to preserve historic details like the Tap Room bar and the colorful murals that line the walls. Thanks in part to their meticulous work, the hotel is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but also serves as a modern cultural hub. The 40 guest rooms sit either above the on-site nightclub, surrounded by a cactus garden, or facing the city. All feature Southwestern-chic decor as well as old-timey touches like iron beds, vintage radios, and 1930s-style phones that connect to a real switchboard at the front desk. Rumor has it that a few are even haunted by past guests and residents of the hotel, but the only tangible downside to the accommodations is the noise—if you’re worried about getting a good night’s sleep, book an interior room or grab a pair of complimentary ear plugs from the front desk. Alternatively, you could just join in the fun at the on-site Club Congress, Tiger’s Tap Room, or Cup Cafe, or grab a meal across the street at Maynards Kitchen, which is located in a historic train depot just steps from where Wyatt Earp killed Frank Stilwell during the O.K. Corral gunfight."

This is the last of the original hotels in downtown Tucson, with original "Old West" charm and features. The central location is perfect for tourists and other visitors alike. The various bars are great fun and popular with locals. The breakfast us fabulous! Various bars and events are common, and really the only downside to the Congress is that you can sometimes hear the music in your room. Nevertheless we love staying at the Congress when we visit Tucson.

We stayed 4 nights (Saturday to Wednesday). First, I will say, we were warned...it can be loud on a Saturday night. That is a fact clearly outlined on their website, at the time of reservation, and upon arrival. Ear plugs are available but they don't eliminate the noise. With that said, the access to live music can't be beat. We loved Bare Bones. ||Hotel is neat and very different from chain hotels. Because the building was built in 1919, the room and bed were small. Beds and pillows were comfortable and I loved the Pendleton blanket. To our surprise, our room did not have a shower. We made due. Our stay was in April so I cannot comment on AC or what it is like there in warmer months. We were there for relaxation, if I were booking something for work, this would not make sense. ||The Cafe food was excellent! We had breakfasts and dinners there. The staff and chef were very accomodating. Everything was very flavorful and fresh. I highly recommend it. Maynards is across the street out the back door. We did not make it there but others said it was delicious. Drinks at the hotel were great and well-priced. ||I was worried about parking but it was easy. Being able to hand your room key in each day was a huge perk for someone who is constantly losing her key!||As much as we enjoyed the hotel, it was the staff that were exceptional. The housekeeping staff were the friendliest I had met in a long time. The desk staff were all very welcoming and great to chat with. They all made us feel at home. They provided plug adaptors, hair dryers, etc. ||If you are up for something different, this is a must stay spot. We will be back!

This is a very unique place! Save for the modern touches here and there, it almost feels like you've time-traveled to a bygone era when you walk into this hotel. The service is top notch and everyone is very friendly and helpful. The reason I gave the rooms only 4 stars is because of the bathroom. The TP roll holder on the wall is mere inches from the toilet seat so you have to sit diagonally on it. There is also limited space to set down your toiletries, although there is a small medicine cabinet behind the mirror. Other than that, the rooms are cozy and comfy. I'm my opinion hotel beds usually leave something to be desired, but these were comfortable! We chose this hotel because it's directly across the street from the Rialto Theater where we attended a concert. We will definitely stay here again!

Second time visiting Tucson and staying at Hotel Congress. Historic hotel with nice upgrades that maintain that old western atmosphere. Plenty of entertainment with several bars to choose from and great restaurant. Convenient location for so many local venues within walking distance and free trolley to University of Arizona with many eateries to stop at. Music until 2 am so bring earplugs or come to party. Super place.

I’ve stayed here multiple times over the years and love it—but it’s not for everyone. The hotel has a great vibe—charming funky historic rooms (some might call them shabby chic) with comfortable beds, vintage bathrooms with deep tubs, wooden windows, creaky floors, etc. The club rooms can be loud depending on the night of the week. I recommend one of the other types of rooms for light to moderate sleepers. The location can’t be beat (the hotel is the heart of Tucson). And the Cup Cafe downstairs has excellent food/ambiance. In summary: a locally owned, soulful spot that will give visitors a sense of what Tucson is all about as a city. If you are a Marriott rewards member…this might not be your spot.

My husband and I stayed for a night away and we loved this hotel. The staff (front desk, bartenders, housekeeping) were genuinely friendly. They made me and my husband feel very welcomed. The hotel is historic and has a lot of character. We appreciated the fact the rooms had no tv and that the bathrooms had that "old" charm.....it all just thoughfully fit. As far as the noise, yes it is loud on a Saturday night but we expected it and were made well aware. The front desk gave us ear plugs just in case and they were helpful. We actually loved hearing the club underneath us play songs we knew back when we were in our twenties. We will definitely be back!

Love the Cup Cafe. The food is always fresh. The service is caring. The rooms are clean, this old hotel is something to see. It can be noisy. Bring your ear plugs.

They do an amazing job of honoring the historical significance, while honoring modern day inclusivity. Amazingly caring and kind staff! Cup cafe is amazing, and they do a great job at throwing random events. Thanks everyone <3

Yelp
Incredibly friendly staff. When we arrived, the owner showed us around and told us the history of this amazing property. We had a chance to spend some time in the bars, which were a huge draw. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant. The only drawbacks were no elevator, and no usher service to help carry our bags. This is only a problem because of my severe arthritis and herniated disc. It's possible that had I been paying attention, We would not have made a reservation here... I'm glad we did, it worked out OK. It's an older property, so one can forgive the water pressure and heat problem. The room was clean, comfortable, and even though there was a huge discussion of the fact that there was a club downstairs and might get loud, that didn't bother us at all. I would certainly recommend this place for a lot of different people, and I would absolutely not recommend it for others, especially ADA individuals like myself. So it really just depends which is the only reason I'm giving this a "maybe" recommendation.

Yelp
The food was exemplary, as was the service. The server knew her menu and could guide me toward foods that might be suitable due to my dietary restrictions. We chose to eat indoors, and I wouldn't have expected this area to be pleasing; the ambiance was warm, though it may have been the cocktail. The pork schnitzel reminded me of my childhood when we ate Vienerschnitzel. It was a reminder of gentler times. The menu was well priced, with my pork leaving me to take home enough for another meal and a snack. For me, it was a winning call.

Yelp
I stayed here with a friend when we took a cross-country road trip a few years back, and while I enjoyed the atmosphere and the architecture and the history, the room was the size of a closet and our room was unfortunately over the bar area and the music radiated through the floor all night, making sleep impossible. We left tired the next morning on our journey east to New York. I appreciate the history of the building, but this is a hotel you go to for a few hours to soak in the history, not to stay at.

Tom M.

Yelp
Staying at the hotel in the middle of town. Old (they say historic), well kept and clean. The rooms & bathrooms haven't been updated since the 30's, somewhat charming. Its historic. Music is blasting downstairs in the bar and the incessant thump, thump, thumping of the base is not only rattling the furniture, but my brain. The room is surrounded by windows that overlook busy Congress St, full of young people partying, talking, shouting, laughing, playing more music and having a good time. The occasional sound of a passing car with a loud muffler or a horn tooting breaks up the monotony of the noise. It wasn't that long ago (or was it) that I was one of those young folks listening to music, laughing, and having a good time. Now I'm in bed, and I want to sleep but I know that's not possible. It's 1:00am and I'm told another hour of this. Went to the desk and she gave me earplugs. Not a dent! If you're in your 20's or 30's and don't mind being up this place is for you. If you're be old fogey like me...run!

Yelp
This classic hotel, built in 1919, looks like something straight out of the classiest parts of the Jazz Age. Built on the newly paved Congress Street where it still stands, the swanky hotel even looked classy back in the day. Of course all of this splendor in the otherwise developing town managed to attract some high-profile clientele, including some of ill repute. Namely, John Dillinger and his gang. They were staying in the hotel on the night of January 22, 1934, when a fire started in the hotel. Fleeing for their lives, the outlaws evacuated the building, leaving behind luggage containing their weapons and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash. As they had checked in under aliases, they tried to maintain their cover, paying off a couple of local firemen to go back for the luggage. However the firefighters managed to piece together who the ne'er do wells were, and they were swiftly arrested by the Tucson Police Department. To commemorate their brush with crime, the hotel hosts the Dillinger Days festival each January. So if you happen to find yourself at the hotel around then and someone asks you to go get their luggage for them, just say no.   Today, the hotel has been restored to a regal splendor that stands out even more in the modern age. Although rumors still abound of haunted rooms from decades past.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were visiting Tucson for the Gem Show, and I saw some great reviews of the food at Hotel Congress. We decided to come over for breakfast one morning. We arrived early so there was no wait for a table (by the time we left there were probably 40 people waiting for tables). Our waitress, Avalon, was so wonderful! She recommended the baked eggs meal which was amazing- so so tasty and filling! I had two chai lattes with almond milk (she was so observant that she caught as soon as I'd finished my first one!). They were delicious! My boyfriend got the congressional breakfast which he loved. Everyone working there seemed to be happy to be there and very helpful. We greatly enjoyed our experience.

Yelp
Ok, first the good: Hotel Congress is absolutely darling, replete with authentic cowboy vibes and lore. There is a decent restaurant on the property with delightful patio dining and the Compass Room is a fun spot to enjoy live music. The hotel itself is a mixed bag. First: the only way to the actual lodging rooms is via stairs, so pack accordingly. The rooms are small and charming; nice linens and cozy details. Be warned, though, that there are very few electrical outlets, and some are so old they don't even hold in your plugs (the one in the bathroom is a part of the light fixture and it wouldn't hold a hairdryer or hot tool plug to save our lives). If you don't care about that, the rooms are comfy, but.... When we booked (more than 2 months in advance) we read the disclaimer that the hotel is a little noisy at night due to the on-side Compass Room and called to specifically ask for a room in the more quiet area; we were reassured that our room should be among the more quiet. However, both weekend nights we were there they were hosting huge parties with DJs and massive sound systems on the patio immediately below our room. From 10p-2a we may as well have been IN a club - it was SO insanely loud that even noise-canceling over-ear headphones and ear plugs didn't dull it at all. It was absolutely MISERABLE. Had there been any rooms available in town we would have changed hotels for night #2 but not even a Motel 6 had availability (that goes to show how bad it was - I was actually willing to consider a motel!). Also, the hotel KNOWS it's this bad - they have you sign wavers when you check in that say they do not offer refunds due to noise... but good lord, who had any idea it would be this bad?!

Yelp
If you want a funky western historic hotel, then look no further. They say some rooms are haunted, if you're looking for that type of thrill, I suggest asking the concierge to get you set up in such room lol. I stayed here for my friends wedding and I enjoyed the historic funky western charm this hotel had. The brunch served downstairs is solid and has nice outdoor seating. The room was cute and western. My friends said they wish their room decor was a little less creepy lmao, but I had no issues with my room. My room with two queen beds was pretty spacious. Cons: No hairdryer in the bathroom and apologies in advance because this is located in the downtown where there are a lot of bars. Pros: located in the heart of downtown so you are walking distance to cafes, restaurants, and bars.

Yelp
Dinner reservation on the patio before a show at the Rialto Theater. Beautiful night, and at this time of year the best place to sit is on the patio. I had half portion (asked waiter for a small) of the Hotel Salad which was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend this salad with goat cheese. I also had the Vegetarian Black Bean Meatballs. Very good, crumbly, the crunchiness of the outside was yummy, sauce was tangy but not spicy hot. The hubby had the Ribs with a side of Mac n Cheese. He enjoyed it, but wasn't overly thrilled about the sauce on the ribs. The side of Mac n cheese was baked in a crook dish and made the top crunchy which was great. Prices are high, but this is also a hot spot for in town. Service is always great!

Yelp
The breakfast and service both were so remarkably good it made me wonder why we had not been to the Cup before! Outstanding special place to keep on your list for when you feel like pampering yourself and a deserving friend.

Yelp
I've been here three of the three times I've been to Tucson! Today we had some happy hour drinks on the patio of the Congress Tap Room. The patio and ambiance here is wonderful & the menu is decent although does not accommodate gluten free or vegan well. Still great for the vibes & the drinks of course.

Yelp
The hotel is not providing value. Crazy loud and the owner doesn't care---doesn't install double-pane windows or soundproofing, doesn't have sound engineer investigate, nor has the amplifiers of the outdoor "club" pointed down and volume lowered. The 9 or so folks at the outdoor club blasting throbbing DJ music seemed to not stay long. It's hard to believe that the outdoor club makes more money than hotel rooms. I am told by a neighboring business that the hotel is well capitalized---so they could install double-pane windows. How entitled can you be---"we want to play overamplifed music AND sell hotel rooms." I still can't believe it. I suspect this place is violating the city's noise ordinance. If you plan to get some sleep, only book here if you go to bed at 2 a.m. (I now think the hotel really is just for hookups and hangovers.) I last stayed here a few times in the late 1990s: The club noise was only heard in the "hostel" rooms above the club--and it wasn't bad. This time, I was staying in the regular rooms, not the ones they discount due to club noise. I suspect the club rooms are quieter than the ones on the patio side where the over-amplied music is. With taxes, the small room with the small vintage full-sized bed (if you are over 5'9", you might find it short), was about $200. Note that that good reviews here are just for the cafe, NOT the hotel. It is quieter IN the hallway (I considered sleeping on the couch in the hall). Unfortunately, the bathroom is too small to sleep in. I was told that the noise problem is well known by the owner, since, as a staff member will tell you (too late for me), they get regular complaints. I was going to stay 3 nights but checked out and checked in to a chain hotel across town. It is sad that this place shows so little care for customers and value.

Yelp
Beware: Do not start a tab with these people at the outside bar, maybe inside one, too. They choose the time to close that bar down whenever they want, and even if you're on the premises (we went to eat at The Cup 50 ft away) they will lock your card up in a vault and refuse to give it back to you. How hard is it to put it behind the front desk until hotel closing time? We were absolutely flabbergasted that I would have to take off work and drive 30-minutes the next day to pick it up. They locked it up at 7p and nobody could just be cool and get it for me. When we questioned it, they threatened to call the police. Never had anything like this happen. I would get it if it had been a couple of hours, even in the early evening, but c'mon, 30 minutes while we're eating at your restaurant as a post show dinner? Awful. Anyway, Hotel Congress has really gone down hill...no empathy, no customer service, no love, and no compassion anymore ...the staff was just mean and awful....they used to be amazing and fun.

Yelp
Booked a night here because of a novel I am writing which takes place for one chapter at Hotel Congress. Initially there wasn't any events going on, but luckily a Rock for Roe benefit show was organized last minute during my stay. Pros: The Tap Room, the attendees and organizers, the concert, food trucks, ambience. My room was the small room. No ghostly activity and I slept like a baby. Room was nice and cold. Con: I was yelled at by a guy who worked there while walking up the stairs. He yelled and asked if I had a room. Maybe they had hoodlums rummage upstairs, but I must say I was turned off by this. Either way, this incident did not deter me because I plan to stay again.

Yelp
We had the best experience at the cup café. We were served by Sammy give us excellent service provided us with totally delicious meals. This is our first time dining at the hotel, it was a great experience. Excited to come back.

Yelp
Gorgeous beautiful old hotel with multiple bars and outdoor seating. Was taken here and another place on a date and had a total blast! The bar in the back is a hidden gem! The old phone booth in front is so fun for pics! Outdoors is total serene with the heat of the Arizona desert.. definitely a spot to visit!!! Bikini tops and shorts with flip flops are the casual attire! Totally laid back!

Yelp
Order a sidecar from the bar!! Food's good, atmosphere is outstanding. John Dillenger approved.

Yelp
Old hotel and very loud as they have a nightclub on the first floor. The restaurants and bars around the hotel are very busy and loud until 3 am. This is not a hotel you want to stay if you are not here to party 24/7. We were at this hotel less then two hours before we told the front desk that we are leaving and check-out and we should be reimbursed for any fees we were charged. The person at the front desk did just that without any issues. We will not be staying at this hotel again.

Yelp
Just a quick little shoutout to this place!! Stopped in for a few drinks, bartender was FANTASTIC!!! Also, attended a mock seance since we were there around Halloween. This hotel is known to be haunted and there is so much history, definitely do a read-up on it and take a look around. Super great drinks but I'd highly recommend the Congress Margarita, it's a nicely spicy margarita with a tajin rim. Yum! Parking downtown stinks, so Uber if you can! Cheers!!

Yelp
The review is for the food truck at the Muffalettas show tonight in the courtyard. Simple but varied menu items. Apparently the hotel owns the food truck. Had the drunken fish tacos. Took a while, but they were worth the wait. The salsa could have been spicier but I get it; you gotta play to the masses. Everything tasted fresh and the fish was nicely fried. The staff seemed stretched a bit thin, but they kept their professional composure.

Yelp
Met friends at the bar. Drinks on point and all yummy. Unfortunately the night we went the restaurant was closed. Will come back again for dinner, drink, and possible a room to look for

Yelp
I want to give a better rating but I can't do to the DJ on the patio on Friday nights. Tucson locals would come out in droves but this guy plays the worst music. It's every Friday almost and there's never anyone there!!! Read the room, get a new DJ. 90s R&B baby!

Yelp
We stayed for 1 night in room 229 on a Saturday March 2nd 2024 & we had an interesting phenomenon happening in the shower. When I got in the shower & was halfway through, the water would all of a sudden start slowing down & turn itself off, & then it would turn back on after about 5 seconds & it would come back on slowly & with cold water & then the water would get really hot & then it would become just the right temperature. It was like there was a ghost in the shower that was messing around with the water pressure & temperature. It was really cool to witness this happening & i felt like the ghost was being a little mischievous but i kinda enjoyed the antics. The ghost seems to favor the female gender because this didn't happen when my girlfriend took her shower. We named the ghost as the "plumber" If you get a chance check into room 229 and see if you experience the plumber ghost.

Samara K.

Yelp
We came in a 21+ group with one 20-year-old at an all ages night. The opening band was over an hour late and staff said we couldn't sit outside to wait because we had someone under 21. Stage inside was completely empty and blasting techno so we didn't want to hang around. We ended up leaving before the band even showed up because the staff was so rude to us and kept following us around.

Yelp
The city needs more of everything Hotel Congress has going on -- what a hotspot for everything from jazz and blues to metal mariachi! The location is in easy walking distance of several downtown highlights, and the onsite dining and music venues are exceptional, with a savvy vibe in every historic nook and cranny.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick libation before a show at the Rialto. Man was it busy on a Thursday night. We liked everything about the place and will return for sure. I enjoyed learning their history, especially the John Dillinger connection.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool old building in downtown Tucson that was built in 1918. I happened to be eating at the Cup Cafe that is inside the building and took a stroll inside the lobby area while waiting for a table. They keep lots of antiques around that were from the old days like an old switchboard. There are also lots of photos on the walls that tell the history of this place including the capture of bank robber John Dillinger. I love Arizona history. Someday I'll come back and spend a little more time here.

Joe F.

Yelp
We had a fun night with JMF, staying right there was perfect - no driving, just a bit funky set of stairs (it's an old building) going upstairs to our room. Will stay again.

Yelp
This was a really disappointing experience. Going into our reservation (which was luckily for only one night) we were not made aware that the hotel is notoriously noisy, as the reservations page doesn't say a single thing about this, and that's the page we were taken to upon Googling the hotel. It wasn't until we arrived that the front desk gave us their spiel about how loud the place can be until at least 2 AM, and at that point it was too late to receive a refund and select a different hotel. At first I hoped they were maybe exaggerating the noise level, but nope--it indeed sounded like we were directly above a club most of the night (as we literally were) and the hotel, due to being historic AKA old, does not have any soundproofing whatsoever. This was annoying, sure, but the rest of our experience tipped our stay into truly negative territory. Our bed had sheets with giant holes in them (see photo). When I stepped into the (very, very narrow) shower, I noticed hair on the bottom, which tells me housekeeping didn't clean the shower at all. Disgusting, especially when you're already overpaying for a noisy hotel with a double bed and an uncomfortably tiny bathroom. Moreover, when we got brunch at the hotel restaurant (Cup Cafe) the next morning, the waiter asked if my partner wanted jalapenos, mushrooms, and other toppings on his dish, to which my partner said yes. When we got the bill, we found out each topping was $1--something the waiter probably should've disclosed considering this wasn't on the menu, as $1 per topping is freaking overpriced. I enjoyed being downtown, but I will not be staying at Hotel Congress again.

H H.

Yelp
Love the charm of this beautiful hotel . No TVs in room has you leaving the room to explore. The hotel is a party at all times . It's loud but they tell you that everywhere. Music venues are all around the hotel . Cup cafe is the hotel's restaurant & it's great ! We love Tucson mostly because of this hotel .

Yelp
I think Yelp nuked my other review but to be clear. This place is great to check out and have a drink see a show or eat. Lovely lobby super cool vintage place. That being said god help the poor souls who have to stay a night This review is for the hotel only. 1. Loud 2. Smells 3. terrible bathroom like a hostel 4. No elevator and you have to drag your stuff up the stairs 2 flights 5. No TV 6. Heating and AC systems old poorly maintained and loud. 7. No one under the age of 21 allowed inside the entire hotel. Not necessarily a bad thing unless you didn't know that when you showed up. 8. My bathroom personally had a super foul odor and my room is 205 super small and dingy compared to other rooms I saw. 9. Poor water pressure and temp. 10. Shit WiFi 11. Bed not great and linens on bed dingy and stained Long story short not a great nights stay. If you happen to be passing through don't stay here. If you are in town for like a concert or something and you want to party maybe.

Yelp
Well prepared food at reasonable prices for a downtown restaurant. I ordered the fish & chips, but substituted the fries for a cup of chili. The fish was very crispy outside, while the inside was hot, tender and moist. The tasty chili, with its chunks of cubed beef, was hearty and made me wish I ordered a larger size. One downside - we waited 35 minutes to be seated for a Saturday lunch.

Yelp
Very cool hotel EXCEPT the club and music is so so loud til about 2 am. I wish i looked at reviews and saw something like this --- . When I say loud - I mean very loud. If you are wanting a deep quiet full night sleep , don't stay here

David M.

Yelp
You've heard of Dive Bars... well, this hotel is the equivalent. It's a Flea Bag Hotel. Old, Old, Old. I'm not talking rustic or any other contemporary words that would describe a mid-century modern... I'm talking old furniture, old mattress, old hotel. From the loser desk clerk to the freak bouncer, this hotel was a shit show. We didn't stay there that night... as we went across the street to the AC Hotel by Marriott. Much nicer, cleaner, and staff was very professional and polite. Unlike Hotel Congress where I think they hired transients to work there. I warn all my friends now that IF they must travel to the Dirty T DO NOT STAY at Hotel Congress. You might get bed bugs there... it's that filthy.

Yelp
We came down for the All Souls Procession, a bartender friend of ours recommended we stay at Hotel Congress. That was the best advice we could have ever received. The hotel is historic (100 years old), old, and right in the middle of everything. This place is where it's at in terms of nightlife! Bar is open until 2am, live music, areas to hangout, access to other bars nearby. It's the hub of downtown Tucson. The crowd diversity here is a great mix, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. This hotel isn't for quiet 10pm bedtime trips. This place is for having fun, staying up late, partying and mingling around. There will be live music and DJ's until 2am. The place is happening, and if you aren't into that you may be disappointed when you lay down at 10pm and the noise is keeping you awake. They also clearly state this on their website and when you book a room so it shouldn't be a surprise. I can't wait to come back to this hotel- it's an absolute gem of Tucson. You'll always have a new adventure if you stay here.

Yelp
Love the chill vibe of this place, my only note would be the table in the lobby covered in pennies although it's cool it could use a glass cover on top, also the paintings on the wall seem like they were painted by children

Yelp
I came here with high expectations after booking our room with a staff member who was very helpful & clearly understanding my excitement over hauntings. She helped me choose the Specific room I chose #212, after she provided input about customers experiences in different rooms, but when I arrived the first impression, well was bad, the person on duty hands me a key to 211, I told her thats the wrong room , I reserved 212, She looks at me with an attitude & says oh thats a noisy room, I said thats the room I booked for a reason, she said ok & gave me the key almost reluctantly, I was like wtf? Who are you to decide anything? I pick my room! Its listed on my reservation woman! Then we bring our bags in the lobby and my husband goes to park car & comes back & we start to go up stairs & no one offers to help, I was amazed, I am taking one step at a time due to my bad knee but no staff offered help, wow, if it weren't for the fact I were so tired & already paid i would have left. I can only hope I see some ghosts or something, thats about the only thing that can save this trip now, even dinner was a disaster but they are separate so ill review them under their page even though they are connected to the hotel. Oh one good thing did happen, we needed ice & they brought up a bucket to the room. Kinda cool.

Yelp
To begin with this property is a step back in time and reflection of days long past. From 1867 to 1877 Tucson was the capital for Arizona. This resort opened in 1918 and its features are preserved in the rooms. Your stay here is about history. If you are looking for 5 star luxury and grandeur, you are heading to the wrong location. Built in the heart of downtown lends to easy access to dining and clubs. Moreover, a short walk under the bridge will take you into Wilcat Country and college town. The resort offers a few dining options inclusive of the Cup Cafe. The food is good and it has an intimate patio to enjoy outdoor dining . The hotel still reflects the old style keys and key drop. It us known to have a few spirits that roam about. Old photos depict the early days and ongoings in this hub. Most everything is a 10 - 15 minute drive here no matter what part of town you are going to. There are many good tourist venues to take in as well. Twyla and I enjoyed our stay! #irishcatv2 #twylytephotography

Yelp
Definitely my favorite experience we had in Tuscon! We went on a Friday night without a reservation, and was able to find our own table immediately. There was a live band on stage playing jazz and rock music, many food and drink options, and overall an amazing experience! There were two drink trucks set up outside. They had all levels and types of liquor available, and the bartenders were very lovely and friendly. One of the members of the group didn't love how sweet her mojito was, and the bartender happily made her another to her liking. We had palomas and spicy mojitos for the table, both delicious and very affordable ($10-12). We had chicken lettuce wraps and oysters- our group enjoyed both (pictured below). For this location, you place your order and pay at the trucks, and then they bring your food out to you. Makes it very easy for big groups who don't all want food/drinks- splitting the bill is not a concern here. Overall, great for a date spot or a night out with friends! A great ambiance, good music, and amazing food/drinks. Hotel Congress is very unique to Tuscon, a must-go.

Yelp
this place is a joke. Apparently it's a very good music venue but the fact that they have hotel rooms upstairs and called a hotel is a joke. The music is very loud until very late. In your bed above, you will be shaking, and if you go to the bathroom, you'll be hard-pressed to use the toilet without whacking into the tiny sink and shower jammed into one small space. But the worst of all, and something they never mentioned to you, is it your bedroom just a few feet from a cargo train running around the clock 24 hours a day. Good luck trying to sleep here.

Yelp
Inspire if the fact that menu prices doubled and the Saturday night live band never came to the stage, this is still a good place to go. Nice vibe here.

Yelp
1st of let me start. Staff are very friendly. the hotel is old like 90yo at the time of the review. 1st no elevator (didn't see one) went there for the el tour de Tucson ride/race. had to up early. get there and they inform me bands on there patio play till 2 am. I am a light sleeper so I got 2.5 hours of sleep. did t know this when I booked. no refunds for noise. next no tv, no usb chargers. they showers are very tiny and the water temp is very inconsistent. The rooms are clean. the keys are just a key. you get one with a heavy key chain. if your older and want to relax dont recommend . if you want to party and need no sleep stay there! also no coffee in room. they may or may not set up coffee down stairs it's a coffee pot with sugar only. well anyway this place is not for me.

Yelp
The Hotel Congress never fails to disappoint. Century Room sucks - canned beer served in a plastic cup with a side of horrible service. I have never had a good experience there. Bad service is the norm. Every part of Hotel Congress sucks. Shameful! And, as a side note, Dillinger did NOT get captured there.

Yelp
I came here a couple times - daytime and late night for after conference drinks and snacks. At night this place was hopping with a sprawling layout of different indoor and outdoor bars and spaces. There was lots of festive and hand made decor plus a photo booth - yes! Drinks and food were moderately priced. I loved the slightly less expensive outdoor taco and nacho stand - one of my favorite combinations. There was an amazing array of fresh toppings and salsas as well. I loved the open air atmosphere and mix of clientele. Definitely a hot spot in town.

Yelp
If you want to learn about what makes Tucson the city it is, then your first stop needs to be Hotel Congress! This is a historical landmark in the middle of downtown that has been present since 1919. The same Tucson family has operated it for generations. It's famous for being the location where the elusive robber John Dillinger was finally captured. Yes, it's an older building, but in my opinion that's what gives it its charm! They also have the best brunch in town at the Cup Café with seasonal menus and the best desserts. Date nights with live music are perfect at Club Congress.

Yelp
Great location and fun venue/bars but I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you want to be treated like a child. I was in Tucson for the UofA football game this past weekend and some other friends were staying down the street but were not allowed to come up to our our room. I'm in my 40s so my partying days are behind me and the insinuation that I couldn't be trusted to behave myself in a room I paid a couple hundred bucks to rent for the night was pretty offensive. If the hotel has issues with partying I suggest they invest in security instead of treating adults like they're naughty children.

Yelp
Another 'Life List' item crossed off. For a double birthday celebration, we decided to book a night at the Hotel Congress. For me, it had been on my list to stay at because a) it is historic, and I love old hotels and b) it is reportedly haunted. I booked the rooms online, got a pretty decent rate given there was some sort of music festival going on called HOCO. Parking was easy, given they have an underground lot you use across the street (which was free with the hotel providing validated ticket). We checked in around 4, while simultaneously getting cocktails at the bar. Front desk staff was friendly and welcoming. I asked for room 242 - but alas it was taken. She said because they had put us in a garden room (because it was quiet) which was actually BS since our room 208 was on the same side of the hotel and we were right over the big patio where the band was playing until the wee hours (but not a biggie though). The whole vibe of this place is awesome, they have done a nice job of keeping it authentic. You walk up the stairs to the rooms -- so be prepared to drag your luggage up there. The rooms are old, but clean and quaint with a cute little array of local items you can purchase (snacks, drinks and "kits"). This is totally old school, and makes you feel as though you have gone back in time. We absolutely loved our overnight stay, regardless of the music from this HOCO going on in the patio. My niece and her girlfriend were across the hall in 207 - full room, which was a more quiet room but smaller than ours which was a twin. Loved that we had guaranteed reservations in Cup Cafe the next morning for breakfast. Thanks for the fun Hotel Congress.

Yelp
My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend at Hotel Congress. I had no idea, nor does it really spell it out on the website, that Hotel Congress turns into a night club on the weekends, blaring music until 1 AM. I think had we known this information, we would have stayed elsewhere. After the music stopped, the loud and speeding cars throughout downtown continued. No police presence to mitigate this. The rooms are small, and contain "vintage" furniture, which just means that they are in disrepair and falling apart. We ate dinner one night on the patio and had music from the stage coming at us from one direction, and piped music from the hotel coming at us from a different direction. It was quite annoying. Hotel Congress is certainly a Tucson gem. However, I feel that by providing more information, guests can make wiser choices.
