"On the veranda of the Hotel Continental Saigon, the site of Graham Greene’s first meeting with his protagonist in The Quiet American, it felt like frontline war correspondents might return at any moment to drain the half-drunk gin-and-tonics left sweating on the arm of a lounger."

The Good – The location is excellent – right beside the Opera House in the middle of things. The building has a degree of old world charm. The room we had was large with a view over to the Opera House. Breakfast was a decent mix of options.||The not so good – service is only so-so. Some of the staff are friendly, but many seem disinterested. The room is a bit tired and needs an update. While the room was air conditioned the unit struggled to keep the room cool. This is partly due to the poor fitting windows and door – which also allowed in a considerable amount of noise (and in the case of the windows actually rattled at times resonating with outside music). They could make the room considerably more comfortable, both as to temperature and noise by installing modern double glazed units. |Even when we put in laundry first thing in the morning it arrived back late – 9.45pm on one night.|Due to its location, it can also be incredibly noisy at night, with music from nearby venues and party buses continuing well into the night. Definitely NOT recommended if you like a quiet location to sleep in.||In summary the place has great bones and potential but needs some good leadership and some money spent on it to make the most of its location.

My wife & I stayed 3 nights at the end of our trip to Vietnam. It's the oldest hotel in HCMC opening back in 1880 and has a lot of history. The hotel seems to be getting a little dated but it was okay because it had the old Saigon charm to it. We had a Opera Facing room and it was large with high ceilings, a small balcony to people watch while having an ice cold beer after a day out. The hotel is situated in a great spot, 5 min walking distance to Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Square or the Alleys across from Ben Thanh market to haggle for some great deals on quality items. The staff are very friendly & helpful. There are some great restaurants & bars nearby. I recommend this hotel if you're after a bit of od charm history.

For a hotel built in the 1880's this has charm. I personally loved it. The beds were comfortable, facilities just fine. Located in district 1 central to most culture. Breakfast was included and covered a wide range of tastes to suit. The breakfast room is the courtyard in the centre of the building. Even with fans and air coolers, on warmer days it can be cozy. Some might call the place dated but I loved its charm and had a wonderful stay.

We stayed here 2 nights in a decent size room. Be sure to look at your room before moving in; not all rooms are alike. Hotel location is great, although it can be pretty noisy due to the proximity to the opera house and outdoor performances. Also, the doors and windows aren’t very soundproof. Comfortable beds and decent size bathroom, although our tub/shower combo should be re-caulked. Also, not much counter space associated with the lavatory.||The rooms in the hotel have air conditioning, but the hallways do not, so it’s like walking through a sauna.||Maid service was great. Breakfast buffet was very good with espresso style coffee and omelettes to order. Hotel service could have been better….we asked for a second suitcase rack and they couldn’t help us, so we moved the TV and the 2nd suitcase was put in its place.

We stayed here for 2 nights, purely because of its central location. The hotel is pretty big, with a nice courtyard dining area & the footpath dining/ drinking area, great for people watching. We stayed on the first floor of the Opera Suite, with a balcony facing the side of the Opera House. The room is pretty large, with a separate sitting space. The decor is a bit dated, the bathroom is average without much space to put toiletries, though there are cupboards that you can put in your stuff. The bed is quite comfortable, air conditioning unit that you can control yourself, though the cleanliness is a pretty average one. The breakfast buffet has a good selection of dishes, from continental to the local cuisines & there are a few vegetarian options. It is definitely a good value for money. Tip: Have a few drinks outside on the footpath & enjoy the watching the hustle and bustle of the city.

Excellent location near the center of the business district and a reasonable walk from major attractions. Classic historical elegant hotel, but well maintained. Some rooms face the street and others face the garden area, which actually is the breakfast area. They have events such as weddings in the garden area but the noise ends before bedtime.||The breakfast had a wide variety of tasty foods and a large staff to assist, clear tables, etc. Very enjoyable in the outdoor garden setting.||The halls are not air conditioned because they are open to the outside, so stepping from my room gave me a blast of hot air.||The spa had private rooms but a very limited offering: Standard massages for 60/90/120 minutes. Nothing else such as foot massages, facials, scrubs, etc.||I appreciated Binh Duong at the front desk who was cheerful, helpful, and speaks good English.

Took an early flight into HCMC and Hotel Continental fitted my requirements perfectly ( and at a good price ). Smooth pleasant check-in and all staff very helpful and courteous.||As mentioned previously it is an historic venue and good on the eye. Stayed in a superior room and while no view it was private. Hope to stay again but would select a n Opera View with balcony. Large high ceiling room with beautiful wooden furniture and large comfortable bed. Absolutely spotless and quality linen. Part of the appeal was the historical context so it was a bit like venturing into an old stately home. There is a plug at the side of the bed and also an extension cable in the wooden wardrobe. The floors were beautiful wood.||Air-conditioning worked well and full mini-bar with reasonably priced drinks. There was no separate shower but it was more than functional and again spotlessly clean. There is even bath salts for those who desire to use the tub. All amenities on hand including coffee.||Breakfast was comfortable is the courtyard with smartly dressed and attentive staff. I noticed they assembled for the national anthem so a real sense of culture. A diverse offering at breakfast and I though the rice and bacon tasted good.||The perfect location and it far exceeded my expectations. Would highly recommend for a couple days stay after an early flight (and longer in an Opera Room).

We stayed here as part of a tour. As one of the original hotels in Saigon, this hotel has kept its heritage look and feel but also enjoying it has modern comforts. Location is very central across the road from the opera house and walking distance to the markets if you are looking for that.||Breakfast was an international offering so there was something for everyone . ||There is also a Jacuzzi spa and steam room which in-house guests can use for free||The staff were friendly and helpful .
