It’s a small family owned boutique hotel about 5-8 mins walk from the Catheral of Santiago De Compostela on a quiet side of the town. ||I stayed in a single room for two nights. The room is not big and had window with planter overlooking the main street. The amenities in the room is basic but cosy. ( note: the sound insulation is not very good as highlighted by one reviewer. Perhaps the other guests during my stay were considerate, noise was not much of an issue. It’s also the dedicated service by the hotel staff that makes you overlook the little inconvenience.) ||The hotel is known for its beautiful private garden in the ground floor. There is a cosy cafe with seating overlooking the garden. ||On the first floor and second floor, there are common seating areas overlooking the private garden. You can have your own quiet time here and have cafe food to be served here. Although the menu mains covers only beverages ( good coffee and tea), breakfast and pastry and snacks, they are value for money. ||However, it was their warm and friendly customer service that made the biggest difference. I totally agree with another reviewer that they deserved 7 stars for service. ||Even before I had arrived at the hotel, I already felt that this place has warm customer service focus. During midway of my Camino, I wrote to them if I could send them a package for safe keeping in order to lighten my backpack. They readily agreed and even sent me an email when my package arrived. ||The period when I was at Santiago de Compostela, it was raining heavily with gusty winds. I arrived the hotel all drenched. The lady at reception, took my wet poncho and shoes, told me they had a place that would enable them to dry well. This happen each time I went out in the heavy rain. And yes, I could borrow an umbrella here. ||It was very difficult to go out long hours during those 2 days of heavy rain. It was quite miserable. However the hotel was like a little sunshine place in the rain, all their staff are warm , friendly and helpful even the cleaner. Having breakfast / tea at the cafe or the seating areas on upper floors, looking at garden was very relaxing. ||Thank you Hotel Costa Vella for the wonderful experience.

I found the hotel by “accident,” you can only book directly. It is ranked #1 on TripAdvisor for a very good reason. And don’t let the official two star rating fool you, this could easily be a four star hotel at a bargain price.|Location - in a quiet part of the city, a few minutes walk from restaurants and about ten minutes walk from the Cathedral |Rooms - absolutely beautiful, with a very good bed and a separate “living room” with big windows overlooking a private garden. Tip top modern |Service - impeccable like most of Galicia, just one level higher. Clearly sets it apart from the chain hotels |Now the real treat - the garden cafe. Absolutely awesome, beautiful with good and cheap sangria, coffee, snacks … you name it. ||Remember, the hotel will mot show on the typical portals so either Google or use Googlemaps to find where to book

This was my second time at this little oasis. Everyone is so nice, the rooms are incredible, the views are stunning, the ambience is so quiet and peaceful. The cafe on the ground floor is incredible as well and has amazing cakes. Could not recommend this place more. It's one of those hotels you never want to leave!

I absolutely cannot say enough about this gorgeous gem of a hotel! From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted warmly and the lovely owner, Roberto, had raced our luggage off to our room before we had even realised. The room is extremely comfortable and the gardens stunning. We loved that the gardens were open to the public for a drink as it created a fantastic atmosphere. At breakfast, you are greeted with smiles, a lovely table, the best home cooked bread, condiments and freshly squeezed orange juice. Fantastic way to begin the day! I cannot say enough about Roberto and his staff. Also, if you're looking to treat yourself after all the walking, there is a fantastic tiny hair salon next door that you would not even know was there - great price and she does a lovely job!||We looked at other hotels as our friends were also staying, including the large one in the square and we would still choose to stay at Cost Vella!!
