"Stylish Cortina d’Ampezzo is known as the Queen of the Dolomites, and Cristallo is its undisputed grande dame. Built in 1901 in the art nouveau style, it hosted royalty and VIPs like Frank Sinatra, Saul Bellow, and Vladimir Nabokov, and the U.S. Olympic team used its skating rink to practice for the 1956 Olympics. Formerly a member of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, the hotel is closed for renovations and will reopen as a Mandarin Oriental in 2025. When it does, it will have 83 guest rooms and suites—many with balconies—a variety of restaurants and bars, a spacious spa, and an indoor-outdoor swimming pool. Award-winning architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron is also creating a new extension for the property. Rates TBA" - Erica Firpo, Laura Itzkowitz

I am writing this the evening after we just arrived to Cortina, the 3rd of September. We arrived here from a long day of traveling from the United States just a few hours ago. The staff was extremely welcoming and accommodations were great. We succumbed to our exhaustion and took a short nap prior to going out around the town. Unfortunately, we were not very familiar with how early or late to eat dinner and if many restaurants would still be open. We came back and the restaurant here at Hotel Cristallino was extraordinary. We walked in wearing mostly hiking and traveling clothes (the ambiance is much nicer than we felt we looked like) and three of they welcomed us with open arms, three different people served our table and were wonderful. We know minimal Italian and were worried we were insulting them by showing up before the kitchen closed, however they reassured us and treated us as if it were a nonissue—a great relief to two exhausted travelers who were new to the region. ||In addition to the excellent and speedy service, the food was wonderful. I ordered the bra Zuni and my girlfriend ordered the porcini lasagna. Both were exceptional. If we weren’t too tired or as late as we were and feeling bad, their dessert menu sounded delicious as well.||Felt compelled to write a brief review given this great experience with the restaurant staff who understood our situation and accommodated us to the highest degree—all while having delicious food and wine. Thank you to everyone there tonight!

This wasn’t a 4-star hotel. The rooms were outdated, very old, and had a slight odor. It is definitely a more budget-friendly option for hikers. However, the hospitality of the staff is amazing. The restaurant serves some of the best food we’ve had in Italy so far. The restaurant manager, Martin, was very professional and accommodating. His daily specials and great recommendations were the reasons we dined there every night. Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 2-star, but the staff provides 5-star service.

Although we stayed for only one night, it was a great experience! The hotel's private spa is excellent, so be sure to book it—it’s perfect for recovering from a trek. Additionally, since we had to leave early and missed breakfast, they kindly provided us with a breakfast box, which was delicious.

The rooms are quite big, but very old and outdated. There is an odd woody smell in the room as well. The shower is so tiny, I couldn’t even turn around. The staff was decent and the breakfast options were okay. I have no idea how this is considered a 4-star hotel though. Definitely more like a 2-star. But the price is quite high.

The hotel is in the good location. Room has double floor. There are lots of cupboard and bed. Room seems to hold a family with kids.

A bit disappointed considering the price and the 4-star hotel rating. The room seemed quite old and not very spacious. The shower is small. Parking spaces are very tight. Breakfast was okay. Restaurant music had ads in it 😅

Well located 4 * hotel in town center with good views of the mountains. ||Rooms are the size of a large studio apartment as property is also a timeshare. There was a sitting area and a separate table for 4 and also a kitchen sink (no cooking facilities). The bathrooms are also large. It is an old property but in good condition and in the alps we prefer the old world charm with lot of wood. ||Housekeeping was very good as was the reception staff. The bar on the ground floor was popular for an after dinner coffee or drink.||Breakfast was not upto the mark. There was only one kind of a cheese slice and scrambled eggs were dry and luke warm at best. Again only a low fat milk that too served out of the tetra packs. Other than that plastic cups in the rooms rather than glasses and only a shower gel and shampoo in the bathrooms.||These are minor improvements which would make the property top notch as overall we really enjoyed our stay.|

Really nice hotel located close to town. I really loved the older lady at breakfast that was replenishing the food. She was really kind and engaging. The bar staff are also very welcoming. I definitely recommend this place :)
