The Best Hotels in Geneva, Switzerland (2024) | Condé Nast Traveler

"As part of the Tollman family’s Red Carnation Collection, Hotel d'Angleterre offers a loveable one-of-a-kind combination of English charm and Swiss elegance. Built in 1872 in a prime spot facing the lake, for many years it operated as the smallest five-star in Geneva, with just 45 rooms—until the 2021 opening of the nearby Woodward, which has a mere 26. Nevertheless, the Angleterre still feels very intimate and clubby. Guests who have spent time at other Red Carnation properties will recognize familiar Tollman design tics: the theatrically draped curtains and shimmering silk wall coverings, the quarry-depleting quantities of marble and onyx in the bathrooms, and the colorful chandeliers. The Presidential Suite—the best for lake views —has welcomed many notable figures over the years. The Angleterre’s Windows restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The afternoon tea is a particular highlight, living up to the Englishness implied by the hotel’s name, with its finger sandwiches, scones, and exceptional selection of teas."

A simply perfect stay.|I had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Hotel d’Angleterre and I can say without hesitation that it is one of the most refined experiences I have ever had.||The location is unparalleled: directly overlooking Lake Geneva, the view from the room was postcard-like, with the Jet d’Eau and the Alps in the background. Every morning the light filtering through the large windows looked like a painting.||The rooms are elegant, with attention to every detail, with refined fabrics, very comfortable beds and an impeccable housekeeping service. The atmosphere is intimate, welcoming, never impersonal.||Breakfast deserves a special mention: a refined and generous selection, served in the room overlooking the lake. Each dish was prepared with care, from the warm croissants to the smoked salmon, to the fresh fruit and natural juices.||The staff? Simply fantastic. Attentive, friendly, always smiling and never intrusive. You can feel the passion for hospitality. A special thanks to the concierge, who helped us make every moment of our stay special, even organizing a boat trip on the lake.

This hotel is simply stunning. From the moment of arrival, there were never less than two people trying to attend to us: our bags, directions, reservations. The front desk clerk insisted on bringing us to our room herself for an intro. The rooms are plush and immaculate. Bedding is lavish. The shower and toiletries are superb. As we were walking out the door to explore the city a clerk came after us to find out whether we’d prefer still or carbonated water for our journeys. I asked for a cheese plate and -5 minutes later they were at the door with a beautiful platter that also included charcuterie, jams, honey and an assortment of bread. Breakfast is divine.

Excellent service!! We arrived at the hotel at 9:30 am from Geneva airport and the staff provided us the room at 10:30 am!! Really appreciate that so we could freshen up. Very polite, courteous staff. Rooms were well decorated and bathrooms were pristine. Nice view of the fountain and lake and easy access to old city in 12 minutes by walk. Highly recommend!!||Santosh

From the moment we arrived to drop off our luggage and return our hire car the concierge team were super helpful and thoughtful. Amongst the best I have ever met in 20+ years of travelling around Europe. I only wish I could name them as I'd love to highlight their professionalism and thoughtfulness. The desk staff were equally helpful, warmly welcoming and always looking to make our stay a special one. We ate in the Windows restaurant and the food was great, the service top notch, and the wine choice suitable for all tastes and wallets! The room was warm and comfortable and there were some lovely touches. Would be very happy to recommend this lovely hotel to anyone staying in Geneva, and we will definitely stay here again next time we're on our way back from the Alps.

Wow. We stayed for four nights in a corner suite that was about as luxurious as you could ask for. Two full baths, spacious living and bedrooms. The service is top-notch, very friendly and not at all stuffy. ||I read other reviews where people complain about the small elevators. Who cares?? European charm.

We had an excellent stay at D’Angleterre. ||The location is excellent. The rooms are classic and charming as well as not missing any modern conveniences. ||Nicolas and Sebastian were super helpful both before and during our short stay and made our short stay memorable.

Google
After reading so many glowing reviews, we were disappointed. The staff were wonderful, and our dinner and breakfast were great (except that they were unable to provide the advertised glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and were unable to provide any alternative Sauvignon!) . The room, however (an Exclusive Lake View) was inadequate for a hotel of this standard, and at this price point (€1000+)||- clothes storage was limited to a dark and tiny walk-in cupboard which also housed the minbar and kettle|- the kettle could not be plugged in where it was provided and had to be moved to be operated|- coffee provision was poor. One sachet of ground coffee, and instant sachets more appropriate for a budget hotel. It is unacceptable not to provide a pod machine these days I’m afraid|- the lighting was totally inflexible. I couldn’t put on the lights in the clothes cupboard without turning on all of the lights in the room!|- the toilet was in the main bathroom, right behind the door, with no privacy from the rest of the bathroom|- the shower was over the bath. Again, inappropriate at this price point|- the view from the room was mainly of trees and a children’s carousel, although the fountain was just visible||Overall, very disappointing, and we would not return.

Simply excellent. The service is highly personal, extremely polite and staff will be anticipating any possible wish or need. Location is first class too. Rooms are like one would expect in a classic 5 star luxury hotel, and fully equiped. Recommended.

Yelp
What a gorgeous hotel. This is definitely my favorite hotel in Geneva and it's one of the last of the privately owned (not big chain) five star grand hotels in the city center. The lobby is small and intimate but fabulous and all done in woods, Italian marble, lots of plush green walls with marble busts, statues and artwork. There's also the famous "Leopard Bar" in the hotel. I booked via AMEX FHR (the hotel is also a member of Leading Hotels of the World) and got a wonderful deal with breakfast and a room upgrade. Try to get a room in the front of the hotel facing the lake because you'll have the most beautiful view of the jet d'eau and the quai. Reception was so kind and actually showed me a couple of rooms. I ended up taking a room that was on the side because I loved the color and the artwork, but I could still see the lake when I looked out the window. All the rooms are different colors and shades and have different themes. Mine had a turquoise hue with a Parisian "can can" theme, original artwork and a chandelier. I also saw a room in the center with a direct view of the fountain that had a nautical royal blue theme. The thing this hotel is really famous for is the high tea at the Windows restaurant. Make a reservation in advance because it's very popular. It's something you can't miss. Try to nab a window seat with a view of the lake. The tiered tea tray is incredible and they make fabulous scones. I actually consumed an entire tier by myself! They also have a wonderful breakfast in Windows restaurant and I highly recommend the fresh crêpes with maple syrup (sirop d'érable). After breakfast, take a walk in front of the hotel to the quai where there is a modern statue for the Empress of Austria, Sisi, who was tragically assassinated nearby in the 19th century. She was staying at the Beau Rivage hotel next door. All in all this is my favorite hotel in the area. You won't be disappointed if you love the classic, grand hotel style. As it's privately owned and a part of the Red Carnation hotel group, it's not completely modernized and sparkling high tech new like some of the other hotels which have lost their character. That's its charm. And it's beautifully run and well managed. After a day the staff all knew me by name, Even the staff that I had not met! I don't know how they do that , but it's very nice

Yelp
***This review is for their Afternoon Tea service only.*** Amazing tea service with a friendly service. I have never been to an afternoon tea were the portions were so big. They're not even "finger" sandwiches but rather regular sandwiches. They have a variety of tea to choose from and everything was so good, we didn't have dinner that night.

Yelp
This hotel made me fall in love with Switzerland. The service was impecable and at an exceptional level. The view was incredible and walking and eating at the nearby restaurants on the river was a feeling I can never forget. Thank you for a delightful stay.

Yelp
The D'Angleterre is a traditional classic hotel. The attention to details and services are amazing, on par with top Hotels I stayed in Asia. Everything about the room was top notch. Comfortable and luxury bed. Well appointed bath and toiletries. You get a day pass for using local city transport, including the water taxi to cross lake Geneva. Internet is included. Even the remote TV controlled is sanitized for you. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't have a gym, but you get a pass at a nearby full gym 100 yards next to the hotel.

Yelp
Very elegant and nice hotel. From the moment I arrived the attention to detail was very evident. The staff from the doorman to the front desk to include concierge was top notch. Very nice location with a great view of the lake. The rooms are nicely adorned and spacious. The shower (water pressure) was probably one of the very best I have had throughout Europe. Nice blackout shades and comfortable bed. The one piece of advice I have is do NOT let them give you a room on the backside (away from lake) over the kitchen area. The staff uses that area as their smoke break area. They were very loud all night long forgetting that guests were trying to sleep in the rooms above them.

Yelp
My daughter and I stayed here for four nights in July, and it is in every way an ideal hotel. The location is perfect, right on the lake with a view of Jet d'eau. The room was large, bright, and comfortably furnished. The staff was superb. The hotel is small enough that I was always greeted by name, and the concierge was most helpful. The Windows restaurant has a beautiful view and the food is fine for breakfast, but you will certainly want to explore Geneva and its myriad dining opportunities.
