The Best Hotels in Geneva, Switzerland (2024) | Condé Nast Traveler

"As part of the Tollman family’s Red Carnation Collection, Hotel d'Angleterre offers a loveable one-of-a-kind combination of English charm and Swiss elegance. Built in 1872 in a prime spot facing the lake, for many years it operated as the smallest five-star in Geneva, with just 45 rooms—until the 2021 opening of the nearby Woodward, which has a mere 26. Nevertheless, the Angleterre still feels very intimate and clubby. Guests who have spent time at other Red Carnation properties will recognize familiar Tollman design tics: the theatrically draped curtains and shimmering silk wall coverings, the quarry-depleting quantities of marble and onyx in the bathrooms, and the colorful chandeliers. The Presidential Suite—the best for lake views —has welcomed many notable figures over the years. The Angleterre’s Windows restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The afternoon tea is a particular highlight, living up to the Englishness implied by the hotel’s name, with its finger sandwiches, scones, and exceptional selection of teas."

We stayed for a weekend at Hotel D’Angleterre and it was fabulous! The staff were super helpful and friendly. The hotel was very well maintained, clean, and overall the accommodation was of a very high standard. It was very conveniently located, facing Lake Geneva, and a few minutes walk from the old town, the main station, boat docks. Breakfast was superb, once of the best ever, with everything you want! We didn’t have dinner but did have a snack from the Indian dinner menu that was a seasonal offer/experience with a guest chef. This food was also of a very high standard. We would highly recommend, and will be looking to come back in future.

I cannot say enough about this magnificent hotel. It is beautifully located on the water directly across from the famous jet. What makes this hotel stand out in addition to the beautiful decorations and furnishings is the staff. The service they provide is at a level that I have not seen in any other hotel and I have traveled extensively around the world. we had the misfortune of not receiving our luggage, and the concierge staff made numerous calls on our behalf, attempting to expedite delivery. They did this completely without my asking, which I thought was exceptional. They also made wonderful recommendations for things to do in the area, carefully gave us directions, and just made us feel very special like we were the only guest in the hotel. They always greeted us by name and always asked what they could do for us.||I highly recommend this hotel.

Well located by the other 5* hotels. The staff are extremely attentive and more so than in most 5* hotels. For uk travelers Swiss hotel prices are exorbitant and this hotel is one of the cheaper 5* options but still pricey. Parking is 55 chf s day. ||Room was slightly darkly furnished but well appointed- 10/10 for blackout blinds, nice lake view and providing a tea pot! Super comfy and large bed. Not my favourite room of any hotel (not huge) but perfectly decent. Very nice breakfast options which were included in our stay. ||Fabulous afternoon tea. One tiny gripe- tea/coffee should be unlimited and so should cream/jam as there wasn’t enough for two scones. But quality and presentation were 10/10 and not bad value either given Swiss prices. Lovely restaurant decor. ||Main disadvantage is no outdoor sundeck, pool or spa. Hence my review allocating a 4 rather than a 5. If you don’t need those facilities you will enjoy a very nice and upmarket stay here

Great staff and service. All were very welcoming and friendly. The room was lovely and well appointed and cleaned meticulously each day. From this respect there are no faults. The food in the hotel was generally of a high standard. Our breakfasts weren’t the best. Cold eggs and dry omelettes.||Our major issue was the major renovation taking place next door at the Grand Hotel. Power tool noise could be heard inside our room and made our booking of a balcony suite a complete waste of money. Until they finish next door which looks like years away we won’t return which is a crying shame because the staff deserve the hotel to be full daily.

A simply perfect stay.|I had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Hotel d’Angleterre and I can say without hesitation that it is one of the most refined experiences I have ever had.||The location is unparalleled: directly overlooking Lake Geneva, the view from the room was postcard-like, with the Jet d’Eau and the Alps in the background. Every morning the light filtering through the large windows looked like a painting.||The rooms are elegant, with attention to every detail, with refined fabrics, very comfortable beds and an impeccable housekeeping service. The atmosphere is intimate, welcoming, never impersonal.||Breakfast deserves a special mention: a refined and generous selection, served in the room overlooking the lake. Each dish was prepared with care, from the warm croissants to the smoked salmon, to the fresh fruit and natural juices.||The staff? Simply fantastic. Attentive, friendly, always smiling and never intrusive. You can feel the passion for hospitality. A special thanks to the concierge, who helped us make every moment of our stay special, even organizing a boat trip on the lake.

Excellent service!! We arrived at the hotel at 9:30 am from Geneva airport and the staff provided us the room at 10:30 am!! Really appreciate that so we could freshen up. Very polite, courteous staff. Rooms were well decorated and bathrooms were pristine. Nice view of the fountain and lake and easy access to old city in 12 minutes by walk. Highly recommend!!||Santosh

Everything about the hotel was fabulous. We were greeted warmly when arriving and the front desk person took us to our room to insure we approved. Room was beautiful and we returned from dinner to find we had turn down service and candy on our pillows. Could not have been a better experience than we enjoyed.

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely impeccable from start to finish. The location is perfect it is close to everything we wanted to see and do, yet peaceful and relaxing. The staff were incredibly friendly, sweet, and accommodating, making us feel welcome and cared for throughout our entire stay. A special thank you to Madame Rabaud, the manager, whose professionalism and warmth truly stood out. She went above and beyond to ensure our experience was exceptional.

Yelp
What a gorgeous hotel. This is definitely my favorite hotel in Geneva and it's one of the last of the privately owned (not big chain) five star grand hotels in the city center. The lobby is small and intimate but fabulous and all done in woods, Italian marble, lots of plush green walls with marble busts, statues and artwork. There's also the famous "Leopard Bar" in the hotel. I booked via AMEX FHR (the hotel is also a member of Leading Hotels of the World) and got a wonderful deal with breakfast and a room upgrade. Try to get a room in the front of the hotel facing the lake because you'll have the most beautiful view of the jet d'eau and the quai. Reception was so kind and actually showed me a couple of rooms. I ended up taking a room that was on the side because I loved the color and the artwork, but I could still see the lake when I looked out the window. All the rooms are different colors and shades and have different themes. Mine had a turquoise hue with a Parisian "can can" theme, original artwork and a chandelier. I also saw a room in the center with a direct view of the fountain that had a nautical royal blue theme. The thing this hotel is really famous for is the high tea at the Windows restaurant. Make a reservation in advance because it's very popular. It's something you can't miss. Try to nab a window seat with a view of the lake. The tiered tea tray is incredible and they make fabulous scones. I actually consumed an entire tier by myself! They also have a wonderful breakfast in Windows restaurant and I highly recommend the fresh crêpes with maple syrup (sirop d'érable). After breakfast, take a walk in front of the hotel to the quai where there is a modern statue for the Empress of Austria, Sisi, who was tragically assassinated nearby in the 19th century. She was staying at the Beau Rivage hotel next door. All in all this is my favorite hotel in the area. You won't be disappointed if you love the classic, grand hotel style. As it's privately owned and a part of the Red Carnation hotel group, it's not completely modernized and sparkling high tech new like some of the other hotels which have lost their character. That's its charm. And it's beautifully run and well managed. After a day the staff all knew me by name, Even the staff that I had not met! I don't know how they do that , but it's very nice

Yelp
***This review is for their Afternoon Tea service only.*** Amazing tea service with a friendly service. I have never been to an afternoon tea were the portions were so big. They're not even "finger" sandwiches but rather regular sandwiches. They have a variety of tea to choose from and everything was so good, we didn't have dinner that night.

Yelp
This hotel made me fall in love with Switzerland. The service was impecable and at an exceptional level. The view was incredible and walking and eating at the nearby restaurants on the river was a feeling I can never forget. Thank you for a delightful stay.

Yelp
The D'Angleterre is a traditional classic hotel. The attention to details and services are amazing, on par with top Hotels I stayed in Asia. Everything about the room was top notch. Comfortable and luxury bed. Well appointed bath and toiletries. You get a day pass for using local city transport, including the water taxi to cross lake Geneva. Internet is included. Even the remote TV controlled is sanitized for you. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't have a gym, but you get a pass at a nearby full gym 100 yards next to the hotel.

Yelp
Very elegant and nice hotel. From the moment I arrived the attention to detail was very evident. The staff from the doorman to the front desk to include concierge was top notch. Very nice location with a great view of the lake. The rooms are nicely adorned and spacious. The shower (water pressure) was probably one of the very best I have had throughout Europe. Nice blackout shades and comfortable bed. The one piece of advice I have is do NOT let them give you a room on the backside (away from lake) over the kitchen area. The staff uses that area as their smoke break area. They were very loud all night long forgetting that guests were trying to sleep in the rooms above them.

Yelp
My daughter and I stayed here for four nights in July, and it is in every way an ideal hotel. The location is perfect, right on the lake with a view of Jet d'eau. The room was large, bright, and comfortably furnished. The staff was superb. The hotel is small enough that I was always greeted by name, and the concierge was most helpful. The Windows restaurant has a beautiful view and the food is fine for breakfast, but you will certainly want to explore Geneva and its myriad dining opportunities.
