The Best Hotels in Copenhagen

"Best Copenhagen hotel for: city panoramics The younger sister to Hotel SP34, Hotel Danmark reopened in 2017 with the architect Morten Hedegaard’s makeover transforming its ‘60s façade with mossy emerald-colored tiles and some clever tree planting. The bedrooms are styled in a hipster-spartan style, painted deep, inky forest green with contemporary Danish designs such as wishbone chairs, leather headboards, and herringbone blankets. The effect is handsome, although some of the smaller rooms are only as wide as the bed is long. Those on the sixth floor, however, can’t be beaten for views of the Tivoli fireworks on a summer’s evening, and above that is a sunny rooftop terrace. The downstairs bar, with its slatted wooden walls and brass lighting, is busy day and night, staff in pretty star-strewn uniforms pouring glasses of Albariño (between 5 to 6 p.m., it’s on the house) while making dinner reservations for guests at nearby restaurants. Breakfasts are organic smorgasbords: compote stirred through with cream, sticky Danish pastries, and the classic brod piled high with cheese and salami. Neighboring Vesterbro and the cobbled streets of Christianshavn are easily explored on one of the hotel’s shiny black bicycles. Hotel Danmark

"Where is the hotel located?Situated a short stroll from Tivoli Gardens and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum, Hotel Danmark is a centrally located, upscale boutique property comprised of two buildings, one from 1792 and the other—with a façade of striking green tiles—from 1969. The modern-luxe vibes start in the lobby, which is cleverly interpreted as an urban vineyard and melds wood and black marble. Do the rooms match the luxe lobby?Rooms are simultaneously airy and cozy, with a palette of white, blue, and gray, marble-covered floors, and tactile wall coverings that look and feel like velvet. Some of the more spacious rooms include balconies, but budget-conscious groups may want to gravitate to one of the two equally stylish yet compact bunk rooms. What sorts of amenities will you find in your room?Brøchner Hotels' signature amenities include in-room Fitness Kits and products from REN Clean, a British skincare line. Are there any notable dining options? The star of Hotel Danmark is the Rooftop, an animated terrace strewn with plants, lounge furniture, stellar views of the city, and, in summer, live DJs. But don’t miss the lobby bar and its collection of more than 50 rums from around the world, or Tivolihallen, where you can order a traditional open-face sandwich. Like other Brøchner Hotels, this property does a great organic breakfast buffet and a complimentary wine hour." - Alia Akkam

Overall this is a great place to stay. There is no air conditioning, so it was a bit warm at times, and our room did not have black out curtains. Otherwise, it's clean and the staff are great. Good breakfast. Great bar options, lot's of perks like happy hour and night caps. It's a great location. I'd definitely stay there again if I get back to Copenhagen.

This hotel is in a great location with many attractions a walkable distance away. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was hot and the bed not very comfortable, especially the pillows. Several restaurants close by and a huge selection with a little more walking. The roof top bar was a little windy on our visit but had a great view of Tivoli Gardens.

Overall I enjoyed my experience at the Hotel Danmark. The good: great front desk staff, awesome lobby and roof top bars, good breakfast on a consistent basis. The challenges: small rooms, no air conditioning means windows open and lots of street noise. No black out curtains means the 4am sunrise is harsh. Inconsistent housekeeping. Overall, a good experience in a great location.

Charming Stay with a Thoughtful Welcome We enjoyed our time at Hotel Danmark. The location is ideal and the overall atmosphere is stylish and inviting. An early check-in was kindly offered which was a lovely start to our stay. However, the room we were given was quite small, especially considering the high rate and breakfast wasn’t included. While the design is appealing, the value could be better aligned with the price. Still, the experience had its charm, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel within walking distance of many excellent attractions in Copenhagen. There are two 'happy hours' offering a selection of wines at 5pm and spirits at 10pm - all free. Additionally, because I stayed in a "suite", I could enjoy free drinks throughout my stay. There's a roof-top bar which was very busy in the evening. The rooms are smaller than you might expect and lack air conditioning and, due to the hotel's central location, there is quite a lot of noise on the road outside. I had a "suite" and other friends had superior rooms, one with a balcony. Their balcony was small but quite a nice addition. The superior rooms are small and the bathroom only has a shower and toilet, with the basin in the main room. My "suite" was not really a suite - it was a large room with a seating area (settee, two chairs, coffee table) but it did have a full en-suite with a bath and rainfall shower. I got a good deal from a Booking site and feel that I got good value, compared to the other rooms. All of the rooms were clean, well equipped and comfortable and had a large bed. Breakfast was a selection of cold meats, cheeses, bread, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, eggs and quite tasty! All of the staff were nice and friendly. Copenhagen isn't cheap and I suspect that this hotel, in its prime location, is what you get for this price. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Danmark - just maybe don't go when it's really hot!

Expensive, terrible value for money. Our room was very small, dark, and very hot. The windows only opened a little bit, and the fan was no help. The bed was pushed up all the way to the window - I had to climb over my wife to go to the toilet! The sink was in the room and not in the bathroom. The shower was ok, but there is only a small screen so water goes everywhere. The pictures hide reality. Avoid it.

What a gem of a hotel! We stayed for 3 nights in a small but comfortable and clean room during mid June and highly recommend this hotel. The location in the centre of Copenhagen is ideal and within easy walking distance of the train station, and close to Nyhavn, Botanical gardens, Broens and many other delightful areas. The staff are excellent, welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast is superb. The roof terrace had a great vibe and the early evening drinks and late night tipples bring guests together creating a unique atmosphere, and their new, own brew beers are very good.

Overpriced, hot, stuffy, uncomfortable beds. Bed is stuck against window - one has to climb over the other person to step down. Tiny shower, with small sink outside bathroom. Small little cupboard to put stuff, hardly any room for just 2 carry-ons. Windows open just a little bit, no AC, a floor fan doesn’t help, even less when room faces sun. Service so-so. Bad choice .

Yelp
Beware of Hotel Danmark not honoring your guaranteed reservation. I had reservations, paid for in advance, for a Sunday. The reservation was for 3 days. Due to flight delays, I was not able to arrive on that day. I contacted the hotel via phone, and was told no problem that they would see me the next day. I had additional flight problems the next day. Again, I contacted the hotel via phone. There was no answer and the automated message told me to email. I emailed them, letting them know there was an additional delay and expected to arrive on the last day of my paid for reservation. As I am getting on my flight, the hotel emails me back stating they had sold my room and I needed to find other accommodations. I told them I understood that I would not be refunded for the days missed as it was a guaranteed/paid for in advance reservation, but expected the room for the last night as I had kept them informed each step of the way what was happening. I get to my layover to find an email stating that my reservation is no longer valid and that I need to book a new reservation. They told me their sister property had room and I could pay a second time for a room with them. They claimed I had not contacted them the first day. Even after I provided phone logs showing I had contacted them, they refused to honor my reservation. They eventually refunded my last night, but never apologized and showed zero interest in helping me. I had to book another hotel, during a layover, so I had a place to stay when I arrived to the city in a few hours. Luckily one of their competitors had rooms and I had zero problems with their competitors. I highly recommend NOT booking with Hotel Danmark because of these issues. I have never had this type of issue with any hotel chain before this. Book somewhere else if you want to have a room when you arrive.

Yelp
Location 10/10, friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing. Suitable for vegans. If you order tea, they bring you good quality strewn tea. I really enjoyed the bed, which feels like heaven. I haven't slept this good for a long time. There are only two things I didn't like. Firstly there was awkward shower (there was literally lake on the floor all over bathroom). And secondly I'm not sure if the chambermaid did anything.

Yelp
8/5/17 Cute boutique hotel in the center of town. Rooms are tiny and have no air conditioning but they are newly designed and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful but can get overwhelmed when too many people approach at the same time. Check in is at the bar which can be great and also busy at the same time Free wine hour 5p-6p is a nice way to relax, enjoy the quaint hotel and people watch Breakfast is organic and served in the lovely courtyard or indoors. Overall I had an enjoyable and comfortable stay at Hotel Danmark.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Hotel Danmark. The design is beautiful and staff is really friendly. When we checked in, we inquired about breakfast which was supposed to come with our room. The person checking us in said they did not see that on our room. Since we were eager to get settled in and eat (it was a long plane ride), I said I would come back later to figure it out. I showed the woman at the front our confirmation emails which clearly showed our room type and breakfast. Not only did we have breakfast included, but we were supposed to be in a suite, which they did not place us in. Since we were already unpacked and settled in, I told her the room size didn't even matter at this point, but breakfast was an important factor. She didn't care at all about the discrepancy. She smiled as she said, "I'm so sorry, but there's nothing I can do. I can charge your for breakfast." Excuse me? Charge us again for something that's already included? Not to mention that you aren't the least bit concerned that we aren't getting anything we paid for? Not to mention, on our first day we had a Privacy sign hung on our door. When we noticed the cleaning staff in the hall, we mentioned this to them and asked if we needed shampoo later, if we could ask for it. She said we could ask for it anytime. When we came back from our day out, our room was totally cleaned. Our privacy sign was completely dismissed. Not okay. This hotel wasn't cheap to begin with--and were staying here 6 nights in the wrong room, with zero amenities. Do NOT STAY HERE. Go with a hotel that follows through on what you pay for. You'd be disappointed to arrive here and have them dismiss your needs.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at for the price! No A/C not clean small terrible room and expensive

Yelp
In January 2020, we made reservations to stay two nights at this hotel in June 2020. Sitting here in May in the midst of COVID-19 restrictions, Denmark has closed its borders and flights from the US aren't available, so obviously our trip will not happen. It's neither the hotel's fault nor ours, so we asked for future credit, not a refund. The hotel refused to credit us for a future trip when Denmark might actually welcome tourists. If you're booking for a future trip to Copenhagen, look for a more customer-friendly establishment.

Yelp
Nice place. Close to everything. Fairly cheap. That being said, the fact that they advertise free wifi for hotel guests and that it then turns out it's only for one device is simply ridiculous!! You can, of course, buy access for more devices for an additional charge... Room cleaning was good on our first day here but on our second day here only one half of our bed was made and we didn't get a new sanitary bag for the bathroom (there is no trash can). I'm always disappointed when there's no fridge in a hotel room, as I enjoy a cold beverage. We didn't try the food so no comments on that.

Steve M.

Yelp
Hospitality is a word the owners don't understand. With travel restricted to Copenhagen, I asked politely if they would credit a paid for and planned future visit. A resounding NO was all I got. A second request for at least a partial credit was totally ignored. I can not believe they would have any travelers best interest at heart since honoring my request would have cost them nothing.

Yelp
This is a really well kept Hotel near Copenhagen's City Center, Main Train Station, Stroget (Copenhagen's famous walking street) and Tivoli. As it is with most Hotels in Denmark the rooms are quite small but all you really need is a comfortable bed while traveling, and the beds are amazingly comfortable! Because it is so close to the clock tower at the City Hall you can hear the bells ring at every quarter hour. The staff is always very friendly and they have a great breakfast. I've stayed here several times and will come back again on my next trip.

Yelp
I booked and prepaid $550 for this hotel in May for August 29. Unfortunately, there was an error and the reservation turned up for July 29. After repeated contacts with the hotel and attempts to correct the dates, I am still told that there is no change possible. It is obvious that I still need a hotel in Copenhagen in August but no attempt has been made to transfer this for a fee or any other solution. Additionally, there is space available at the hotel for the requested August 20-31 dates. The appalling lack of customer service has given me such a negative experience that I do not want to spend another dollar in Copenhagen. I am going to change my plane ticket and fly straight home.

Eric W.

Yelp
Great location in the heart of Copenhagen. Very friendly staff that went out of their way to help with a lost luggage issue. The layout was a bit eclectic, being an old building, but with a cozy bar and breakfast options, it was like staying with the relatives (the nice ones).

Douglas M.

Yelp
I have traveled to Copenhagen on business on several occasions the past several years. I have stayed at the Hotel Danmark as well as several other hotels in the area. The facilities available at the Hotel Danmark are not as great as some of its competitors, but the staff and management are by far the most friendly and customer-centric group of people that I have met. The same is true of a similar hotel operated by the same company (Hotel Astoria). Based on the service that I have received, I would stay at this hotel over many of the other hotels in the area.
