Where to Stay in Florence: The Best Neighborhoods For Your Visit

"I appreciated Hotel Davanzati as a cozy three-star choice that delivers great value — it includes a complimentary continental breakfast, afternoon tea, and an aperitivo hour with prosecco; the rooms are a bit dated but spacious with comfy beds, a desk, flatscreen TV and wardrobe, and the bathrooms are large with heated towel racks and showers that have excellent water pressure, while the staff go out of their way to help." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Florence (Updated 2025)

"Just a block from Ponte Vecchio in the heart of the historic center, this cozy three-star hotel offers a lot of value: a free continental breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, pastries, and cold cuts, plus social hours with complimentary drinks and snacks (afternoon tea and cakes) and an aperitivo with Prosecco and savory bites. The rooms have pastel-colored walls with historic drawings and maps, are generally spacious with comfy beds, a desk, flatscreen TV, and wardrobe, and the bathrooms are large with heated towel racks and showers with excellent water pressure. The staff really go out of their way to help, though note there is no elevator so it’s not the best choice for guests with mobility issues." - Matthew Kepnes

We just returned from 9 nights at the Davanzati and had a wonderful experience. I wanted to stay in the city center in a small historic hotel that was within our budget for a ten day Italian vacation centered around Florence. This hotel is part of a home built in the 14th century. Unfortunately the hotel did not maintain any of the character but much of the original building is on display in a museum next door to the hotel. The hotel itself is offers nice accommodations which are not luxury but our room and bath were spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the free breakfast, plus afternoon tea and coffee with enable, plus wine and prosecco at Happy hour. The best thing about the hotel was the staff. They were very friendly and extremely helpful with suggestions, making reservations and arranging for taxis. After a few days, we felt like we were coming home on the afternoon and welcomed by friends. This was our first time in Italy and definitely was a great decision to make the Davanztati our home base.

I give it 5 stars based on knowing it is a small boutique hotel, not the Hilton. Very nice, cozy, comfortable. I booked their smallest room and they did everything they could to make it comfortable, down to the bedroom slippers and sleep noise machine. Everything worked perfectly and everyone was super helpful. Great location, I walked everywhere. Good breakfast, lots of nearby eating establishments. Quiet, secure, comfort, at a reasonable price for Florence. Taxis can drive up to the door too.

Hotel Davanzati is a wonderful, family run hotel in a great location of Florence. You are minutes to the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Piazza Della Signoria, etc. |We were greeted by Leonardo at the front desk upon our arrival and he assisted us throughout our week stay. He was extremely helpful and gracious and we always enjoyed talking to him for suggestions and information or just to say bongiorno! |In fact, everyone at the hotel was so pleasant, always smiling and accommodating. Especially the breakfast lady and her assistants. We very much enjoyed the delicious breakfast that was served every day. They also had snacks in the afternoon, water was always available, and they had a happy hour with wine as well.||We had a beautiful room and the housekeeping was done daily. The stairs were not an issue for us to get to the elevator. ||We would highly recommend this hotel. The location alone is unbeatable. We look forward to staying there again the next time we are in Florence.

Superb, central location. Super clean and spacious room. Reception team incredibly friendly and helpful. They even helped us with our luggage down the steep staircase from the pavement to reception. Would absolutely recommend (so long as you’re ok with stairs) and would definitely return when visiting Florence in the future. 10/10.

Hotel Davanzati – A Boutique Gem in the Heart of Florence My wife and I returned home and couldn’t wait to share our wonderful experience at Hotel Davanzati. During our week-long stay , 9/17-9/24 in Florence, we were truly captivated by the hotel’s charm, ideal location, and—most of all—the exceptional staff who made our visit unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. Concierges Cosmin and Angelo, along with the entire team (we regret not knowing every name!), created an atmosphere of warmth and attentiveness. Their seamless coordination and heartfelt hospitality made us feel right at home. What stood out most were the thoughtful and engaging conversations shared with us as guests—small gestures that speak volumes about the spirit of this hotel. Daily breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour were lovely touches that added to the experience. Our room was impeccably serviced each day, meeting our expectations without a single request. We wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Davanzati. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, character, and genuine care—right in the historic heart of Florence.

My family stayed at Hotel Davanzati May 2025 and it was a fantastic experience. The location couldn't be better - right in the heart of the city, just a short walk to the train station, and plenty of great restaurants and shops. It made exploring Florence so easy without the needing a car. ||What really stood out though was the staff. From the moment of checking in, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Shout out to ANGELO, the breakfast staff, and happy hour bartender. They treated us like old friends. Angelo went out of his way to recommend local spots. The room was was clean and comfortable, and the complimentary breakfast had a good variety of options. The cappuccino was especially nice as were the cocktails and lite horderves during happy hour. ||I'd definitely recommend Hotel Davanzati to anyone visiting Florence - great value for the location and top notch Service!

Excellent stay. The rooms are really spacious and spotless, making you feel right at home.|The hotel is really close to Plaza Republica, which is great if you're looking to explore the area. The staff are super friendly and always go out of their way to help, they deserve compliments |The breakfast was really lovely, too. |Please note that there are stairs leading to the reception area. This may be a consideration for elderly visitors or those with mobility restrictions.

A real homely Italian experience with a genuine family homestay atmosphere from when you first arrive at reception to your final breakfast before departure. ||Rooms are a little aged but spacious. The beds are super comfortable which is all you need after a full day walking the cobbles of Florence. ||While it can be a challenging hot and sweaty 10 minute walk from the train station with a bunch of luggage in the summer heat, once settled in it’s a perfect location. ||I’d strongly suggest guests eat at the Centrale market. All the quintessential Italian classics are sold there at reasonable prices with a vibrant atmosphere. Especially Florence’s specialty; Lampredotto !! |There’s no need to eat anywhere else !! ||Shout out to Davanzati and their daily free happy hour. Thank you .

Yelp
Good service and comfortable rooms. All in a great and accessible location. There is also free breakfast here, which is a plus!

Yelp
Absolutely one of the best places we stayed in while in Florence! The staff was amazing. The breakfast and cappuccinos made my morning! The rooms were large and bathroom was very nice. Definitely would stay here again!

Yelp
What Hotel Davanzati has going for it is that it is located in an ideal location for your tourist needs. It is an older(?) ish hotel, adjacent to a museum. We were able to only have to walk 10-15 minutes away from the Gucci Garden, Uffizi Garden, Accademia, and even the market. Lots of stairs going in and out of the hotel but I think the walking distance just gave this place a lot more points. Other good things: - cold cuts breakfast included (boiled eggs, pastries, cold cuts, cheese) - happy hour Prosecco and wine and snacks

Yelp
We loved our stay here. Clean, modern without touches of old-world class. Fabulous shower and bathroom. Bed was comfy and cozy. Breakfast was really good! And check in was a breeze. Close to the Ponte Vecchio.

Yelp
A gem! Beautiful spacious rooms in the heart of Florence! Super clean. Friendly and professional staff. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
This is an AMAZING and underrated hotel. Check in was so smooth, and the receptionists were extremely welcoming and helpful and professional. Someone helped us with our bags, so the stairs weren't really a problem. Our room was much bigger than expected. The air conditioning was phenomenal in 100 degree summer. It was close to all the major sites like 10 min walk to duomo. The best part is that there's free breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour (wine, Prosecco, water, snacks). I absolutely recommend staying here in Florence!

Yelp
There's nothing special about the physical hotel space other than a tiny shower and lots of stairs because the building is very old. The hospitality, however, is incredible. Check in and check out were easy, and the staff was happy to call restaurants to make us dinner reservations, a must for Florence in the summer. After two days, they remembered my name and room number without prompting. They greeted us each time we came or left and went above and beyond in all that they did. Not a fancy place, and not somewhere luxurious to spend a lot of time, but certainly a spot near many attractions where you will feel taken care of.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to staying here for my upcoming trip to Florence. Due to coronavirus, I have had to cancel my trip, and Hotel Davanzati has been so extremely helpful in this process. I was able to secure a full refund for my stay. As heartbroken as I am, I know this hotel will be the first on my list to rebook once the heath situation is resolved.

Yelp
Family run boutique hotel situated in the center of Florence. Friendly staff and good daily breakfast. Comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Great place to stay when in Florence.

Yelp
My husband and I planned an unforgettable Italy trip in 2020 to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. COVID made us pivot and push our trip to 2022. We researched Florence hotels and found this family owned gem serendipitously. Hotel Davazanti extends hospitality and expert recommendations to all patrons. We enjoyed the convenient location, Appretivo Hour (an opportunity to meet other guests, sip and nibble small bites) and the stellar breakfast. As a marketing expert, I appreciated the subtle ways they brand EVERYTHING from the Chianti and wine glasses to the breakfast plates and cappuccino mugs. Finally, we were extremely grateful for a late check-out so we could quickly visit the Duomo. We are planning a return in 2023! Yelp
Starting off; Superb location, wonderfully pleasant aura & immaculately clean rooms! However, Hotel Davanzati sets the bar extremely high because of their attentive staff. If I'm correct, they are a family owned & operated 4th generation business with Leonardo presently yet effortlessly accommodating each & every client that passes through their door. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice! 5 stars for sure!!

Yelp
Next time we are going to Florence-Firenze, we are staying at The Hotel Davanzati. Mr. Fabrizio, a family run business. When you interact with the hotel staff, you will realize how well they take care of their guests. Simple act of Mr. Fabrizio...we came back from a long trip one afternoon....the first question he asks "Did you have lunch"....this is how well you take care of your guests. Their "Happy Hour" is the best, with prosecco and red wine. One of the best part of staying in this hotel is we wanted to have dinner in good (great) restaurant, and asked in the hotel. We were recommend one of the best Italian restaurants around the hotel. Well they take reservations, and we had non. But walked to the restaurant, introduced ourselves and were asked did we have reservation? We did not have one. Than we informed the restaurant owner that their restaurant was recommended by Hotel Davanzati. In the next few minutes, we were seated in a new setup table. The service we got was amazing. I Just Drive is a site seeing service provided by this hotel. We chose this specially we did not want to be in a big bus with too many people. We wanted to have a private, almost a private limo. So we got a Mercedes Black Van, and an awesome driver Fabio. Any word to describe Fabio will fall short for our enjoyable trip to Tuscany Region...and to my favorite Chianti. Great job Fabio. Thank you dear Fabrizio, Convey our thanks to all your family and staff.

Yelp
Based on high Trip Advisor rating, we had high expectations for Hotel Davanzati. While overall we had a comfortable stay here, I felt the price we paid was just fair for what we got. It's an above average hotel that is positioning itself to be high-tech and modern with iPads available for guests in the lobby and daily happy hour with candlelight ambiance and rather interesting choice of music. It was quite a scene when we arrived during the happy hour, I thought we've mistakenly landed at a club... Be prepared to drag your luggage up one steep flight of stairs, although the hotel might offer you help if you buzz from downstairs. Strangely, there is an elevator in the building that takes you up to the lobby and second floor of the hotel, but you still have to drag your luggage up the stairs to get to it. Our standard room was on a smaller side (not very unusual in Italy), but both the room and bathroom were very clean. And while the hotel is situated close to Palazzo Veccio and numerous bars and restaurants are right around the corner, we didn't hear much noise from the outside (despite of staying over the weekend). But I did hear my neighbor blow-drying her hair every morning... walls are really thin. The hotel is a family-run business. Front desk is usually worked by the father or his son. Grandfather is also helping out, but mostly during breakfasts. He's very cute and probably still enjoys being involved. The farther was always helpful and very nice; the son is more business-like... cordial, but detached. Our only average restaurant experience was the one he recommended to us. It wasn't bad, but we've had much better food in Florence. He also didn't offer any help with our luggage upon check out, while his dad did upon our arrival. The location is fantastic! It's just a short walk away from Palazzo and Pointe Veccio, Uffizi Gallery and the office of Artviva tours (try their Florence walking tour for 25 euro) is just a few minutes away. Ask the hotel for reservations to Trattoria Nella, we had an excellent dinner there. Enjoy your stay in Florence.

Yelp
It's not often I am blown away by a hotel but this is one of those times. I got a last-minute deal on my room so paid a reasonable price but given that it's a family run hotel you could always negotiate a price anyway. The only 'bad' thing about this place is the flight of stairs to get to the lobby. If you have a lot of big heavy bags of problems with your knees you may want to consider going somewhere else. But, if you manage the trek to the top of the stairs you will get the warmest welcome, better than I have had in ANY hotel. Some previous reviews questioned the choice of music in the lobby but I liked it and it adds character. You can't hear it from the rooms anyway. And what a room! Mine had an outdoor patio and the bed was excellent. So was the shower, and unlike a lot of places the mini bar was reasonably priced and well stocked. Breakfast is the usual Italian fare and my latte macchiato was actually an espresso macchiato but I think that might have been a language misunderstanding. The quality of the hotel is reflected in the smiles of the guests' faces as they enter and leave. 5 stars! Every one of them deserved!

Yelp
I really wanted to give this hotel five stars as the staff was incredible. Booked restaurants, took care of any issues that came up and was really and earnestly friendly. The problem was the hotel was not in good enough shape for five stars. When we came, had to go to the front desk with about four things not working. They didn't get the bathroom door lock to work (we didn't ask again) and it was an issue for a family of four. They did get the air conditioning to stop leaking but these are all issues that should have been resolved pre-checkin. Breakfast was okay, not huge but all you needed and coffee made to order. The location was fantastic and again the staff could not have been more friendly.

Yelp
This is an awesome little family run hotel. THe Palace next door was built and belonged to the Davanzati family, and the courtyard below our rooms is named the Piazza dei Davanzati. It's a great little hotel, but not for weak knees.... You don't have to carry luggage, but you must walk up 26 stone steps to get to the Reception desk. However, once you get there, you will meet all the family, and they will welcome you as one of their own! We've never experienced the extraordinary warmth of welcome in any other hotel ever! We met three generations of the family, including the founding grandfather (Marcello) of the hotel business. The sons take turns at the Reception desk which doubles as the Concierge, and we always prefer tips from the locals who know the town best. We were early, and our room wasn't ready, but we enjoyed complimentary cappuccino in the breakfast area until it was. After the train ride from Rome, that was an excellent treat. Check this out, they have three (3) iPads in the lobby for checking on news, trips, tours, etc., and unlimited free wifi. Our bags were awaiting us when we arrived to find an immaculate old style room. We found modern key card security, a safe, and (surprize) US style electric outlets in the bathroom. Yeah! Tommasso greeted us in the morning, got us all settled in, and got us tickets for the Galleria del Accademia. He suggested a super pizza lunch half a block away (reviewed elsewhere), invited us to attend the complimentary Happy-hour, and recommended the best Steak Florentine in Italy for dinner (with reservations). We went straight to the red museum ticket window, and straight into the Entrance, jumping a line of hundreds of people. When we returned from the museum, sights, shopping, and a terrific day, Riccardo & Fabrizio greeted us in the evening. The warmth just doesn't stop after one shift! If you can handle the steps, then this is the place to feel at home. Well recommended, we will return every time in Florence.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic hotel. Great staff, great breakfast. A bit of a "climb" up those first steps, but well worth it. Room was good, bed was a little hard, but we slept fine. Great location for Artviva tours (right across the street and they are great, too). Easy walking distance to about everything in the old part of the city. I'd go back in a second!

Tanya M.

Yelp
Fibrizzo, the owner/manager was so kind very helpful, the staff was very kind, the customer service is what makes me want to give this hotel a five star review they were all soo helpful with our whole entire trip, gave us a lot of recommendations and tips. Hotel is very clean and makes you feel at home. Definitely would stay here again
google avatar

Trent C.

Yelp
Except the stair issues, which the hotel warns about it before you confirm the booking, I'd say everything is quite nice with this place. The only thing you should be aware is that when you ask for recommendations for nearby restaurants, they will purposely avoid mentioning the really fantastic place next door (well reviewed and extremely popular). I am guessing it's probably because there was some kind of bad blood between the two. Just ignore their recommendations and use Yelp!

Yelp
Just stayed here 4 nights while touring Florence, Tuscany and Cinque Terre. Very nice clean updated hotel with attentive staff. The hotel is in a great location; easy to access museums, sights and train station. Breakfast and happy hour every day a definite plus. Would stay here again next time we are in Florence.

Yelp
Perfect little boutique hotel! Best location in Florence. Staff was helpful, rooms were clean, breakfast was good, and I will definitely stay here again!! I was traveling alone and the small single room worked out perfectly for me. Walking distance to everything.

Yelp
We stayed at Hotel Davanzati our first day in Florence. It was a quick overnight as we were traveling on to the Tuscan area near Siena. This is a charming, friendly family owned hotel. It is clean, our room was large and very comfortable. There are stairs to climb to the second floor reception area but with luggage help from my cabbie and the front desk staff the stairs were easily negotiated. I really enjoyed our stay here and recommend this hotel. I would be very happy to stay here again. It is centrally located, clean, welcoming and comfortable.

Yelp
Great staff, very accommodating. They will make coffee or hot chocolate to order every morning. They are great helping you book tours or anything else. Breakfast was amazing and location was premo. I highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp

Yelp
Very good hotel. Great location in the middle of city center. Not a bad deal for €77 a night. Comes with breakfast and wifi. The room is decent size and very clean. The staff is totally awesome. I even went out for beer with a few of them. I will definitely come back here.
